How long is reasonable for solicitors to respond to enquiries?! Ours were sent to our purchasers solicitors on the 20th of July and we haven't had a reply....they were on holiday for a bit of that but surely by now they should have responded?! 🤪 not sure whether to harass my solicitor or wait....I asked for an update last week from mine and have asked the estate agent to try and move things along too ...not sure what else we can do
Kind of depends, they can be going back and forth between solicitors. I’d suggest using the sales progression team at the estate agents once you’ve heard from your solicitor. They can speak with the vendors solicitors directly and find out where they are with things.

Crazy isn't it? Our enquiries were sent on 13th and only got resolved last week after I got involved and personally requested the documents they were apparently still waiting for (an s106 and s38 from the council) which were sent to me and passed to my solicitor within half an hour.

Only thing you can do is keep chasing and hope it might give them the nudge they need.

    Still no exchange here.
Our solicitor sent an email to our vendor's solicitor last Wednesday suggesting dates of exchange this week, completion 6th September as we go on holiday on Friday (holiday planned waaaay before house purchase and to be honest we should have completed by now if it wasn't for their very slow solicitor anyway). Spoke to the estate agent on Friday to let her know we had signed everything, transferred funds and were just awaiting agreement on our suggested dates, she said the vendor had agreed to the dates and so we're just awaiting their solicitor to confirm.
Except their solicitor only gets round to communicating when they feel like it. And they don't often seem to feel like it.
Two days left until it'll have to wait until mid-September.

Pretty much the same story here except it is our buyers solicitors who are being slow and incompetent. They are insisting we buy an indemnity that we do not need (our solicitor agrees), and asking the same questions weeks after getting responses. They even repeated questions in one email! They should include "how to read" as a specific module in a law degree.

Same position as me. The Vendors are currently in Spain for two weeks, due back the weekend, so everything is on stop until next week when we may gat a new completion date agreed. If you're going on Holiday, make sure all parties are informed beforehand, so people are not chasing a brick wall. If you're on holiday, others in the chain will just have to wait.

Oh my word what a week! We have finally exchanged today.

The most stressful week of our lives! Our buyer threatened to pull out yesterday if we wouldn’t complete on Thursday but our vendor said that wasn’t enough notice and wanted Monday completion as exchange hadn’t happened and would have been today. Literally piggy in the middle between all parties and even considered moving into parents and putting everything in storage for over the weekend just to make sure it happened.

Luckily in the end a compromise for completion on Friday was agreed at the 11th hour. We were supposed to exchange last Monday and it was all down to delays from a certain conveyancing farm who I’m sure people can guess! Literally asking for 1 more thing then 1 more thing and no urgency whatsoever.

Onwards to completion on Friday! We cannot wait

I did this too. Had to get documents myself and convert them to word format for the solicitors. The amount of money we pay them yet we are doing their job
