Ugh - sounds so frustrating. It IS achievable, but (as you say) you might have to move on to another purchase to make it happen. The issue was forced for us at 7 months. Maybe we should have seen signs earlier, but we loved the property we lost. Ah well, it's history now and there are other houses to love. It took us a year in the end - exchanged last week with completion nearly on us (I hope). It can happen ☺️
Thank you, that's just what I needed to hear! We've upped our offer on the chain-free house, and are chasing our other offer to try and get the vendors into rented. And back to scanning RightMove...

All the best of luck to everyone exchanging and / or completing today!

We are all set for Monday's completion. Due to extended attempts to exchange, our removals is slightly out of sync. The plan was always most of the contents going into storage on Saturday. Because we couldn't confirm without exchange, we lost the Saturday slot, so they came round yesterday. OMG, what a panic! Cat still here, as not due to go to the cattery until today, so had to work around her, and we hadn't totally finished packing as we thought we still had time. All good in the end, the team were brilliant!

So we went from thinking it was not going to happen, with exchange having stalled for 9 consecutive days. 24 hours later, I suddenly have a half empty house! So, anyone who is struggling with delays, lack of action, poor communications etc - hang in there. It will happen, and it is likely to happen fast!
Amazing that you got removals sorted quickly & that your movers were helpful. Fingers crossed we have a similar experience. Ours seem very organised. So much to do this weekend though!
  • @Otb21 What a tangled tale! Our experiences match (dates and loss of first purchase) right to the point you lost that 2nd purchase. What horrible luck - I really feel for you. I hope the housing gods are smiling on you for house no.3. Thanks for the update🌻
  • What has everyone's experience been with their "sales progressors"? Mine overall hasn't been particularly helpful, pretty much every time we've talked he will tell me that he has over 200 cases and that he doesn't have time, and I've run out of ways of politely saying "I sympathize but can you work on my case?", when it's really not my problem and  frankly I don't care anymore.

It's like the eternal excuse from solicitors about how busy they are, maybe charge more and take on less clients? It's not my fault that they've turned their profession into a race to the bottom.

It's all particularly annoying because I am paying a premium for a solicitor that actually has time to do his job properly, but everyone else involved is not.

  • @MrsBrush That sounds crazy but great - I'm so glad things are moving for you. Congratulations again!

@esubbs That's really good on the offers! I hope they choose a good buyer, and you're in before Christmas.

@TheScone Best of luck, you'd think you've definitely got enough time to get it done today 🤞

@greensalad Fingers crossed for you, too, I hope the Sales Progressor gets back to you soon.

@Otb21Crikey what a nightmare. Best of luck with this purchase!

For us... we heard nothing yesterday. I was a bit worried all day, but trusted that everyone was doing what they'd said... It was a bad idea, in the end. We heard from our seller's solicitor this morning that our buyers' solicitor was not in contact with our solicitor yesterday; and our solicitor confirmed today that she's had no contact this morning, either. Our sellers' solicitor is now very concerned that we won't be able to get this done before their mortgage offer expires, and once that one goes, the other houses above expire every 10 days or so afterwards.

Our solicitor is now on holiday until Monday. Our estate agent is MIA. I'm so frustrated.
    Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:

@HopeAndDriftWood it's so frustrating when you're running to a deadline and people just won't communicate! Hopefully in the meantime things are progressing behind the scenes so when they do talk to each other it's something meaningful 🤞🤞

Sales Progressor got back to me and updated me on the whole chain, so that's nice to hear! I'm feeling a bit better now. She explained to us that the top of the chain's sale is going fine and they have just raised a small number of enquiries off their searches, so it seems they are going to be in the same position as us soon. Apparently the issue stems from our vendor's onward purchase which is a complicated sale due to splitting of land and property and the legal issues that has thrown up. It all sounds in hand but it sounds like the vendor's solicitor is taking their time with the relevant paperwork. I explained we don't mind completing in the new year but if we do that, I really need exchange to happen before Christmas because our tenancy is up in January and I just don't want all the paperwork to be left undone in early Jan. She said that sounded like a reasonable request and hopefully knowing "exchange before Christmas" as a date will encourage the vendor's solicitor to get on with their case!

Mine was really nice at the beginning, then disappeared. Turned out she left the company! Now I've been given a senior sales progressor and she's really hard to get hold of, but when I do she's great as she has the ability to update me on so much more of the chain and also yell at solicitors on my behalf.

That's great! Is she the progressor for your sale or for your purchase?
