My update. Found out late Friday afternoon that the estate management company have asked for the deed of variation to be sent over, so our solicitor was getting that arranged. They haven't said specifically that they will sign it, so we are just hoping so hard that they will as that will be the best, quickest solution to proceeding to exchange and saving the chain.
Also found out that my partner's buyers haven't had their title report yet - WTAF? We were told everyone and everything else was ready. They were first in the chain but have been so slow the whole way through. So hoping they get that sorted this week.
Seriously, my nerves are completely frayed.
Property buying/selling timeline - currently into week 21
04/12/20: Both properties listed for sale
11/01/21: Offers accepted on both sales & on our joint purchase
25/01/21: Identity checks completed, solicitors instructed
27/01/21: Purchase survey & valuation complete, mortgage offer received
05/02/21: Reduction agreed on partner's sale (under-valuation) & on purchase. Mortgage offer amended
08/02/21: Buyers pack returned to solicitor - sellers packs already returned
    26/02/21: Partner's sale contract signed
    10/03/21: Purchase searches all back
    16/03/21: My sale contract signed
28/03/21: Purchase enquiries satisfied, Title Report & contracts issued, contracts signed & returned
11/05/21: Still waiting on final enquiry in the adjoining chain to be resolved. Consent to break the chain granted, instruction to move to exchange given.
17/05/21: All parties agreed to June 3rd for completion
27/05/21: Exchanged on my sale only
    28/05/21: ALL EXCHANGED!
    03/06/21: Completion

I'm absolutely devastated we are moving to be closer to aging parents.... House went on the market in August and we should have moved just after Christmas had the chain not collapsed. As some of you know dad had a stroke just before Easter but yesterday we were told the numerous scans have found pancreatic and liver cancer... They've estimated he has a few months. Utterly heartbroken that thanks to lockdown and now this ridiculous process that I've lost precious months with him. Almost past caring about moving dates now and I'm moving in with mum until we actually exchange and I need to pack etc

    What a s****r!
Oh no so sorry to hear xxx

@Caz_Mnaz so sorry to hear that.
It sounds like you're almost there with your purchase so just let your solicitor deal with the final hurdle and focus on family time.

Just really be present for the now with the family, sending you lots love and strength

Oh, Caz_Mnaz, I'm so sorry to hear this.  Hope you and your mum can spend as much time with your dad as possible in the coming months.  Sending love to you at this horrible time for your family.

Thanks everyone, just horrific timing although I guess no right time! Unfortunately no hospital visits so we're just hoping we can get him into a hospice

Who knows maybe not watching my emails like a hawk will result in progress being made 😂

I am soo sorry to hear this, I myself have lost so many months with my stepdad, who has dementia, due to lockdown restrictions. Hope you get to now spend loads of quality time with your Dad, really puts other things into perspective I know.
  • We are on attempt 3 or 4 to exchange today. I gave permisson to exchange at 11am but not heard anything back as yet. I am beginning to think that the solicitors should just set up a group WhatsApp to speed it all up 😆

The EA has just said 'most exchanges end up happening on the same day so don't worry if it doesn't happen today or tomorrow it'll probably happen on Wednesday morning'. That is no good for my peace of mind at the moment.

As they say in every Star Wars movie 'I have a bad feeling about this'

@Caz_Mnaz I'm so sorry to hear this. What awful news. I hope things speed up for you soon.

    ..

We've issued our solicitor and Estate Agent an ultimatum today - we need to complete before 13 May. We're away for the end of May, and if we don't complete before then, then we'll be looking at June. Our two-party chain is fully ready to go (just, the buyer is still abroad...) so we're theoretically all set.
