Does the flylady thread still exist? Way back then, I'd be motivated by that and celebrate small successes.

Baby steps, albeit quite quick ones are needed.

And the Konmari stuff - maybe you don't go for the entire category if you don't have room. Perhaps wittle it down until eventually you can do it by category.

I managed to lose six boxes of books in one morning. I truly believed that I'd never get rid of a book.

As you are a 'supposed' new user, what would you know about my old form?

The only issues I have petal are trying to decide what to spend my money on now that I have a brand new build house that I paid cash for ................. ummmm, decisions, decisions :p

    "New"?

You do realise that the HA will have to get mental health teams involved in your case now you have been flagged up as a risk? They may offer you counselling and therapies and it could turn out to be a multi agency load of people trying to persuade you to lessen your stash of stuff.
Also as the property doesn't belong to you they may have you on the grounds of not maintaining a decent standard of living therefore causing damage to their property. Do you know for certain there isn't a damp problem or pest problem lurking behind your boxes?

Not to mention fire hazard but that's already been covered....

Thank you, Doozergirl! I'll try to find that thread.

    Well done on your achievement!

We have made good steps already and will definitely keep going! :)

Room has been completely moved around several times recently. We switched to neater tables, and bought bigger cupboards and bookcases, throwing away the old ones. Nothing more than a few dots of mould in two (outside wall = cold) corners was found, now all gone. Things aren't just sitting. We're sorting, donating, discarding and improving all the time.

No mention of mental health assessments yet. That's yet another thing which makes me think they are handling this so badly and don't have a clue. Goodness knows what state anyone not so strong would be in by now, with all the stress they have caused us, with their awful communication and complete lack of clarity!

Glad to hear you are trying to make improvements.
However referrals to people take time. You almost seem to be relishing the attention and looking forward to making a fuss about perceived "errors" you think the HA have done.
The HA staff are all people too. They have thoughts and feelings. They make good judgments and bad like all of us and they will have both your best interests and those of your fellow tenants and their property in mind whilst dealing with your case.

"Relishing the attention"?! I can't understand how my communication must be going so wrong here on this forum - what on earth gave you that impression?

Believe me, they have made errors. The first guy was an absolute nutter - aggressive and totally arrogant and overly enjoying his "power", even making quips about social housing and privacy that were NOT appropriate - and they fired him. NOT a good start...! People after him not much better either!

Yes, they're all people. But people can be professional, and they are not.

Yes, you are indeed very 'special'.

Ok, that's it. I'm totally bored with this troll now.

Great idea, PasturesNew! Do storage places let you hang around for a while in your unit like that, though...?

They all vary. I've used all sorts:
    - come/stay as long as you like during their business hours, you have an outside secure container.
    - come/stay as long as you like during their business hours, you have a locked room inside a hangar.
    - come any time you like 24/7, with a security fob.

There are inside/hangar ones - and individual containers outside - and those where you sign in the reception/book - and those with security fobs/cameras.

Just have to look around and think it through.

I didn't like having to walk up stairs with my stuff in one as it's a long way from the car (they provided trolleys). The outside ones can be nasty if the weather's hideous. The idea of 24/7 access is good, until you turn up alone after dark and think "ooh eck".

How have you got on today OP? My ex is a hoarder - he was of the school "it may come in useful someday" or it's worth £x but never got sold. The last time I was in his flat it was filthy (not saying yours is!), mainly because he couldn't get to anywhere to clean it. His thing was cardboard boxes, they were everywhere, including all over the bedroom so that he slept on the couch, and in the bath. He assured me that he took them out to have a bath, I wasn't so convinced.

He showed this sort of behaviour when we were married, but I 'controlled' it to a great extent. Obviously when I left he was able to go the whole hog. To be honest I'm surprised he hasn't had the Housing Association round too! It's sad, but he doesn't want to be helped.

I'm sure that once you get started on this clearing out, you will find it very uplifting. Best of luck with it!
