    Re- storage units.

The one I used gave a code to access the building and you put a padlock on your unit. Then you could access it at any time (24-7) and stay as long as you wanted.

They checked them regularly so I guess you couldn't live there. I cleared mine out one night and removed the padlock - I got a call at 9:00 in the morning asking about it and whether I still wanted the unit.

The problem is that it's easy to leave things there and just keep paying for evermore.

Just to clarify, I'm not "upset" by any comments.

I just think there are some slightly aggressive people here who think they can see into my home and then actually comment about what's in their head as if it's fact; and some who think they have the right to diagnose someone they don't know, from a small piece of writing; and some who imply that I'm lying or hiding something; and others talking about me (and/or judging), rather than directly to me.

I find all those things rude, not upsetting. I'm just observing that. No big deal. Comments like that waste my time reading them, but that's the internet for you! :)

I am just grateful to those who have truly wanted to help and address the issues I have actually asked about. (Yes, even those who are very direct, of course!) You good people know who you are. Thank you.

Maybe the answer is to rent a self storage unit for ONE month.... take it all there and spread it out, sort it out, then sort out what to sell, what to keep.

But, you do need to say to yourself "I'm ONLY renting this for ONE month - after 2-3 weeks everything will have been checked, sorted, decided and on its way home or to its new home.

t doesn't work - not for a hoarder anyway - and ends up costing a lot.

My mother put a lot of stuff in storage so her house could be rewired (wiring was 55 years old so with all her stuff a double fire hazard), but when it was done instead of retrieving the storage she just filled the space it had created, with more stuff.

I also recognise some of the hoarder symptons here - need time - boxes stacked with bookcases behind....in the summer months even my mother's fireplace was blocked with piles of plastic boxes.

We've moved again and now the garage is stuffed to the rafters with their old photo albums, mementoes and other things I've not plucked up the enthusiasm to go through. It's very easy to fall into bad habits if the inclination is there.

Unless you are confident that your garage has no damp or extremes of temperature, don't leave photo albums in there. My mother put boxes of photos and other paperwork in her garage - admittedly some of it was there for years - and damp destroyed most of it. (Including unopened post from up to ten years before!)

Wow - PinkMohawk is still wasting her time on the internet to avoid doing any actual work to prevent herself and her family being evicted.

Oh well - you can take a horse to water and all that .....

I wonder if her next thread will be entitled "Will i be allowed to take all my 80L plastic boxes with me to the homeless shelter?" :rotfl:

Oh, and there she goes, reverting to her old form!

I'm just glad I have my issues, and not yours. :)

As you are a 'supposed' new user, what would you know about my old form?
