(Actually it was all about the seats. Proving I have indeed turned into an old fart.)

I have heated seats in my Jag - they make me feel like I have farted :rotfl:

I'm not at all disparaging of people who cant afford expensive cars.

Its genuinely each to their own and peoples requirements change at different times. Some of the best cars and most memorable cars i've owned have cost me just a few hundred pounds.

Its when people project their own insecurities on to others that i take issue with it - if someone wants to drive an expensive car, then cool, sounds good to me. If they're happy, i'm happy. I dont think "oh, well they clearly cant afford that on THEIR salary".

I think things have moved on a tad - AFAIK a radio is now a standard fitment on all BMWs. ;)

I suggest you go and have a look at the current 3 series.

They may have moved on but then again, so have most other manufacturers and BMW is no longer the "exclusive" brand they want you to think it is, especially with every chav in my old town driving either a new 1 series or a clapped out 3 series ;)

Can you show us where BMW pitch themselves as an exclusive brand?

Not by any stretch of anyone's imagination is bmw, Audi or mercedes an exclusive brand.

Neither do VW pitch themselves as building the most reliable cars, but that doesn't stop half the population believing it..........

Don't they. I think a quick look at their advertising campaigns over the years would say otherwise.

    No. They dont.

Its 20 years since the "if only everything in life was as reliable as a volkswagen" adverts.

Any VWs i've bought have been because i like the cars (recently bought a 2016 Passat TDI SE Business) not because i have any preconception thats its extra reliable just because it has a VW badge on the boot, rather than say, a SEAT, Audi or Skoda badge (or that its likely to be any more reliable than a Ford or Vauxhall equivalent)

They've been plenty of VW adverts that either explicitly mentioned or implied how reliable their cars are more recent than this.

Well I seem to remember an advert claiming that a BMW "is not for everyone" but I can't say for sure. I know that but they certainly had an "exclusive edition" 3 Series :)

I was more talking about the comfort of said seats - and the Volvo really are comfortable on long trips. I have heated seats too and while nice in winter to get a feeling like I've wet myself, it's not a must-have for me.

I have now had two cars with heated windscreens, and that is very near a must-have now.

There's so much technology in my windscreen that it's no wonder Autoglass took 3 days to order a new one. The pedestrian airbag I put in the "pointless" category of features.
