1 year old Audi Q5 being charged £11k for wear and tear :-(

Electric handbrake im not saying they did leave it on but something has obviously gone wrong, Im at a loss however that the OP has not or appears not to have got a detailed acct of what exactly Audi have said was the cause of the damage. Another favourite one of cars going up in flames on the motorway is people leaving the oil filler cap off. On my A6 it has a electric handbrake and believe it or not you can set up in the menu how it works ie auto release or full manual on/off etc . Recently had a case of a woman in a Audi A3 ran into someone she told the insurance her brakes failed on a new car The insurance notified Audi who examined the car who found nothing The insurance then threatened her with making false claims etc and were threatening to throw the claim out !!!0

The OP does indicate that they stopped the garage in mid-flow and started to argue before hearing the whole story.
Audi dealer** staff are as obnoxious as the people that buy the cars, imagine that level of arrogance on two opposing sides of an argument.
**Source, GF worked at two different Audi dealerships and left both because of the people.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Seems like the source was the constant issue at both dealerships.0 -
still when a Audi dealer wants £4k to put a cambelt on a RS4 you can see how they make money0

As others have mentioned, i imagine the clutch started slipping and the OP kept trying to drive for some reason, overheated the clutch and that's when it would have likely caught fire.
If you drive on a flat tyre and destroy the wheel, suspension and steering components, i imagine Audi wouldn't pay for it all as most of it would have been caused by negligence from the driver.
I wonder if something similar has happened here. Instead of a simple clutch replacement /investigation the OP drove the car until more significant damage occurred. All your base are belong to us.0 -

I've come across some arrogant people before and I've also come across some ignorant ones as well but it's rare to come across someone who is both as arrogant and as ignorant as you seem to be Strider.
It sounds as if you and your GF are made for each other.0 -

Why do you say he is arrogant / ignorant, he is just quoting his GF experience.0 -

I get called lots of things for speaking my mind.
You seem to think this makes you a better person? I'm thinking "irritating".Strider590 wrote: »

I really, really dont think they do. I would say they probably really dont care.Strider590 wrote: »
I sit and I watch and I laugh at the majority of the human race who just spend their entire lives trying to be the same as everyone else.
Again, you seem to think this is a good thing? It just makes you sound weird.Strider590 wrote: »
I look at my father, now in his 80's with Parkinsons and I wonder how he feels now, now all that money means nothing, I wonder how much he regrets when he looks back and see's that he wasted his life chasing other peoples dreams.
I think that gives us an insight into your childhood and your relationship with your father.Strider590 wrote: »
So if I have this chip your so insistent that I have, then it's because i'm sick of this "me me me" society and I want to see a world where people help each other because it's the right thing to do and not just because of vanity driven
I suggest you look at your own life, and the friends you keep, if thats what you're seeing around you.0
