Friday OS thread 5th Oct 07

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 5th October. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning.
I am up far earlier that I wanted to be. My OH wonders why I get up at this stupid time.... although I do think it's the best time of the day.
Off to Exeter today for a court appearance. Just to make it clear that I AM NOT in the dock! Some stupid people are from London who decided to swap indentities to avoid getting a speeding fine when driving at 120mph in Cornwall. Anyway it will be a nice day for me as I am getting paid to work a day off..
Managed to get all the windows stained and painted yesterday, cut the grass, clean out the hens, wire up some lighting, clean out the fish.... very productive. Watched Carry on Cowboy in the evening which was certainly not one of their best ones.
I thought I had killed the hamster yesterday..... I was cleaning out the fish tank and this head popped out from behind the fridge freezer about 4 feet up the wall. I looked and it was balancing on the socket behind. We eventually got it out and it decided to jump out of my hand and landed on the kitchen floor. It looked in a bad way. Legs were not moving and I thought I would have to put it out of it's misery. But miraculously after 10 mins it was running around it's wheel. It;s still alive today and back to normal.
So a happy ending. Have a nice day

Good morning everyone,
Shez - hope you are feeling a bit beter today, you are a wonderful person, and def a wonderful mum, and i think we all feel a bit 'worthless' at times when a couple of bad days come along. Make sure you continue having a moan on here if you need to, getting how you feel said is very important, and hopefully will make you feel better - take care ((HUGS)) xxx
BargainRzl and JackieO - Hope you are ok!!
Well, i def have the cold that has been sweeping the OS board, but once ive taken the children to school this morning, i have a day off - i could do with earning some money, but must admit im really looking forward to be able to do whatever i want for a few hours - i think a nice bubble bath after breakfast with a book and hot chocolate (and marshmalows and squirty cream!!!) and im tempted to dye my hair as well, but will see if i have any energy for that - the house really does need cleaning, but i might be lazy and leave it!!!
I still have those bananas that need using, so that MIGHT be my OS contribution today - although i have promised my 2 HM pizza for dinner tonight, so that bumps my OSness (is that a word???) up a bit. They are going swimming with the youth club they go to later as well, so im really going to be spending a day on my own!!! Been invited to a neighbours chocolate party later, and i have said we will pop in for an hour later once ive collected my children - i dont normally mix with the neighbours much, i prefer to keep myself to myself but thought i would make an effort, seeing as they have been kind enough to include me.
Think thats about it, will pop back later if im not being too lazy!!!
((HUGS)) to anyone who wants or needs one,
Have a lovely day,
Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Oh, forgot to say - well done on giving blood Aime:T , i used to but im not allowed to now, and those who do donate arnt just giving their blood, but their platelets too, which is an important thing for me (never know when i might need some!!!) - hope you get on ok!!0 -

another day at work today. So the OS stops until tomorrow!

had a spot of good news yesterday. a few weeks back we "won" one of the easyjet holidays for £90 each (flight and 2 star self catering hotel) in Majorca. well had an email from easyjet to say the hotel is closing early for the season and would we mind changing to 3 star all inclusive hotel! let me think about that
need to phone later when their call centre opens to say that will be fine thank you!
and my father in law has an endowment which has just come up and he wants to give us a share. so our new doors will paid for with out touching our savings! need to buy a lottery ticket later in case all this good fortune comes in three's!x x x0 -
Morning again everyone
What a difference your own bed makes (even if its your second bed IYKWIM). Slept through to 7.30 local time.
Journey yesterday went through quick thick mist early on, to sun around lunch time, followed by heavy rain, and then watery sun when we arrived. It seems we missed a hum dinger of a storm here yesterday morning, torrential rain, thunder and lightening. Shame!! Good forecast for the next three days so hope it holds.:T
Unpacking and a complete clean through on the cards, after 8 weeks can nearly write my name in the dust, so definitely an OS day here for us 2. TV working, but signal not so have to call them today so missed "Who do you think you are?" Hopefully I recorded it at home.
Shez ((hugs)) who on earth ever said we were organised, no we fly by the seats of our pants, its just learning what is going to burst into flames and hit that before it does, its a skill I acquired at work as there is never enough time to do everything, and some things just die away eventually if you leave them long enough.:o
Good News on the win Dogrose. shame you have to upgrade (lol).
Thank you for your generosity, but I will decline you passing the OS cold over the water! I can do well without it.
((((hugs))) GB.
Glad to see you alive and kicking Amie, shame I'm not nearer or else I'd try to help with your wireless set up.
Skint_Catt - think we maybe need to put you wise. WHAT IS YOUR OH DOING? If you are working, he needs to share the jobs with you, not him replacing his Mum with you. Give him some of the chores then you won't be as tired! He may appreciate that IYSWIM;)
I should have got weighed this morning, but had coffee before I remembered. Sure the travel eating will have put back my loss! Well done on your loss MrsM
Right off to drink my second coffee DH has just made me, if I go and talk to him will stop him moaning about me always being on the PC!:rotfl: :rotfl:
Take care all and (((((hugs))))) to those who'd like one.

Morning
N9eav, have you thought about having a paper round, you might as well do something useful if you are up so early
Dogrose, congratulations on the holiday, don't forget to take full advantage of the fully inclusive offer
Mrs Macawber, congratulations on the weight loss, I need to go on a diet after my holiday.
Last day on here as we go away tomorrow, hope everyone is OK while I'm gone xYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever

Morning all
Off to work soon, but just read yesterdays thread, ref the comments about domestic goddesses, I cook, sew & knit, because I enjoy it, I don't do housework, I wash & iron, but everything else gets done if I feel like it, or if even I can't stand the mess any longer & if hubby doesn't like it, he can always do it himself. Don't beat yourselves up, no-one went to their grave wishing they'd done more housework.
Hugs Hester

Morning All
(((hugs))) to Shez, Catowen and anyone else feeling down or ill.
Felt better yesterday when the sun came out - meant to be nice today and the weekend too!! Cold is also improved.
This morning its DS Harvest Festival - we have such a small hall so they have to do it in 3 sittings, our one is in the middle so hopefully wont go on too long. Dont mean to sound rude but some of the teachers seem to like the sound of their voices too much. Feel sorry for the mums who have to sit through it 3 times.
Relief today as client paid the correct amount so no cashflow worries for the next couple of weeks, they are a large international company and pay basically when and what they want - makes planning very difficult.
Was meant to be going out tonight for DS's friend however his mum hasnt been in contact at all so no idea whats going on. Have leftover chicken ready to make into curry if not.
Downside today is that the dog has chewed a hole in the carpet at the bottom of the stairs, I do hate the carpet - Royal Blue which shows up everything - but wont be replacing it for sometime as have a lot more building work to do here. Not sure what to do, it looks terrible and cant exactly put a rug over it?
Anyway best get on, need to dry and straighten my hair otherwise will scare the little kids at school.
Have a great day.0 -
