KonMari 2017 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Great question, tibawo. Not much in terms of Things, although I bought a new radio/cd player which has freed up space and encouraged me to play my CDs more.
I think moving my MK journey on to a point where some rooms are (and remain) clutter free has been significant, and it's freed up time and energy. I've been able to do more sewing, which I really enjoy and intend to do more of in 2018.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. If anyone is interested in keeping a tally of their 2018 progress, there is a 2018 challenge set up: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5765908
I'm going for 2018 in 2018 - but you can set whatever no you want or just start at '0' and see how high you can go!
It's not necessarily Kondo related, though

Blimey, I don't think I have 2,018 items to get rid of without getting down to unsustainable levels. But then, I'm a singleton in a tiny flat, not a family person with lots of small people working their way through various sizes of apparel and pastimes etc.
I might just mosey on and see how I go.
When I have finished the WIP rug I started a few days ago, I will have leftover rug wool. Some of it was given to me and is in very bright hues; orange and turquoise. Even as accent colours, hell will freeze over etc before I ever use those.
So, because I love rug-making and may do it again, I shall neatly pack and store such colours as I can see myself using but will release the rest via a chazzer for other crafters to get the benefit from.
I also have decided to work towards a longterm goal; retiring at 65 rather than at 67, which is when I will be able to access my state and local government pensions. I am beyond ticked off that my working life has had 7 years added onto the end of it, particularly since I have been in poor health since age 20. There is nothing, and I mean NOTHING material that I would value as much as an additional two years to do my own thing, and I will pile on the savings with the intention to live off them for two years and thumb my nose at the State.
Onwards!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Joy sparking - I've read a lot more this year - which has been great, as I've always loved books but lost my way with 4 kids/ work/ housework/ husband's business/ voluntary work etc. Also, reading them has cleared space - I've not kept a single book which I've read this year - they've all been passed on one way or another
A joy sparking thing has also been to stop doing the voluntary work I was doing - it was such a mental energy zapper and I really should have left before but finding someone to do my role was tricky - however suddenly jumping (after a bit of a push!) meant they *had* to find someone. It came to me the other week that I don't miss it at all, in fact I realised just how much it was dragging me (and my home life) down. I've still donated things there and left them with beautiful paper and computer records which fully reflected one another and were totally up to date, so I didn't abandon them.I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Great question Tibawo!
After family, friends and mutts, the most joy sparked for me in 2017 has been finding the core of what matters to me and carving it from the mass of commercialism in life. It has come from MK, Fumio Sasaki’s book on minimalism and from on here, all helped by friends, copious amounts of thought and Prosecco and a visit to a stunningly beautiful European city. :j"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." I prob need to get out more...
I did that last year....and this year when we opened the boxes it was a joy to behold....so much so I took pictures to make sure everything that we are keeping goes back in same place - we had a cull last year and will do the same again in a few days time. Made putting up the decs some much easier and quickerBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Tibawo - good question!
Nothing earth shattering just more time to enjoy the company of family and friends and the realisation that I can let 'stuff' go without guilt.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Most joyous thing of 2017?
An experience -Taking art classes! I am NOT a natural artist but I have produced a couple of decent pictures and several small pieces. Most importantly I have actually improved. No masterpieces but what a good feeling to improve, enjoy, and be eager to do more.
A related 'thing' - I was given a lovely book for xmas that offers advice on techniques, some almost 'step by step' guidance and some lovely inspirationI can't wait to get stuck in :j
I also re-discovered some recipes for biscuits and aligned those with my HM marmalade, making cute hampers to give away. A win-win situation, reducing food stock and craft stash
Final joyous item? A new clock for our living room. It is a bit quirky and we both love it!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
2017 has been horrible for us in terms of losing a number of relatives. Also, several friends have suffered illnesses or had accidents. Most of our time has been taken up with sorting things out following the deaths (and clearing a couple of houses) and supporting friends in their recoveries.
Kondoing has been slow but it has continued and the best Kondo success for me has been to not buy things I don't need and not accepting "it'll do". I have not bought anything in the Boxing Day sales and happily recycled clothing catalogues without even looking at them. I have enjoyed wearing the clothes that I have without hankering after more and am following GQ's example in that I won't buy anything until the wardrobe contents have reduced naturally through items wearing out.
Paper has also continued to reduce although there is still some way to go and I will be very happy when this is done as I've been working at it for a few years now.
I'm excited to be setting out on a new year of Kondoing and plan that by the end of 2018 my home will be how I would like it to be - clear, clean and joyous!Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
Hmm - most joyous thing of 2017?? Hmm, I can't think of one, single thing though I have had many joyous moments.
I think maybe going back to doing yoga one day a week (occasionally two as my yoga centre has one sunday a month where you can do candlelit yoga). This has really helped my mental health - life has thrown issue after issue at us in the last 4 months. House problems, family problems, my son left for uni, my daughter (and all her stuff) came back, my father died, my son crashed the car but i have coped with it all and i think that learning how to breathe, how to be mindful as well as the physical movement has really helped deal with all these tensions.
I bought a green leather jacket - that's joyfulI wanna be in the room where it happens0
