KonMari 2017 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I now have to up my game - it has been confirmed that friend is coming to stay for Christmas so the office has to be fully cleared as it is the second bedroom and at the moment doesn't have a bed!
Decision was made a while ago to get rid of large desk and get something much smaller but first the room has to be cleared in order to get desk out. So operation Kondo office now has a deadline.
More photos have been torn up and the shelf has been cleaned and things from the floor which are leaving in a few weeks time put up there out of the way for now.
Going through the reading pile to see if anything can quickly go from there. Tax return should be completed on Monday/Tuesday so once done, the box of paperwork can go in the loft so that'll be another space on the floor cleared.
Don't know what to tackle after that - I'm sure it'll become apparent when I get there.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
Have MK'd the bits and pieces of mine which are at my parent's house. Feel rather guilty as there was more there than I thought.."Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0

After KDing a Saturday morning club at the beginning of the year, DD1 is now doing GCSE PE and wants to keep her netball skills up so she can get a good grade. She is by no means the next England player but wants to do well. So the only training nearby that doesn't clash with everything else we do is, you've guessed it, a Saturday morning!
I know I moan as it messes up my routine but I am glad she is thinking ahead. However, it is also at a sixth form centre and one of them places where it is a waste of time for me to come home just for the 30 mins before I set off back to collect her. With this in mind I have decided to 'take' some small KD with me. E.g. I've put all the pens drawer stuff in a bag and will sit going through it!
If you've any other ideas for small things I can do in future weeks then I am open to offers... not really too keen to do things like my undies drawer though as in a public place!!0 -
ocean spirit, I have aerobeds, two low beds and one high bed and these are more useful than having a permanent bed, they make a room multi use and are pumped by electricity. There is the matter of storage and mine are easily stored under a single wooden bed, a bed that used to have a roll out bed underneath, so there is a 17" tall gap below. The underneath bed has gone to a dd
Before I opened up mse this morning, I had been spending a little time pondering how to make that room look a touch better ie applying some feng shui. It is neat and tidy but the items underneath are too much on show. I have spent money just now, on a velcro valance, one I can stick to the wooden bedframe, I just needed to add 2" length and have ordered a neutral colour, which will be a shade down from the curtains. This will do the trick. The present duvet cover is not the right feng shi colour at all but that does not matter, I have cozee home single sets and will slip one on when I put my house up for sale. It immediately adds that appealing softness to a sleeping area. Ahh the small touches that make such a big difference
I cannot see any KM for me today, a pottering day after a busy day spent standing yesterday0 -

The recent posts made think photos may be suitable?
I suppose if you are sitting in the car you *could* take a whole drawer on the back seat or in the boot. If there is enough little things that could be worthwhile.
You could keep a bag or box and chuck anything fiddly or time consuming but small in it during the week since you know you will have that fixed amount of time.
If you have mags or cookery books to go through, something that you want to check through the pages deciding if you need to keep individual recipes from.
Hope these are useful or spark a better idea
Daisy xx
Eta: I replied before getting to the end and realising there had been lots of other great ideas, love them all, what a clever lot we all are :cool:22: 3🏅 4⭐ 23: 5🏅 6 ⭐ 24 1🏅 2⭐ 25 🏅 🥈⭐ Never save something for a special occasion. DH rummaged in the CS bag and grilled me about why I was releasing a couple of ornaments. I pointed out that they had been taken off display several weeks ago and he hadn't missed them, and they were mine, if everybody had their own! Anyway, he rescued one as a gift for a client who loves owls! I love owls but have enough that I love and that one did not spark joy.
I then spent a couple of hours painting mini xmas scenes for my cards. Not an economical thing to do, given how cheap xmas cards are, but I enjoyed myself and my art and craft stuff brings me joy!
Keep warm everyone!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Wow, kittie, I thought I'd invented the velcro valance a few years ago, when I made one for my own bed. It velcro's onto one side of the pine bedframe, the only side which is visible as the other sides are less than 1 foot from the bedroom walls (very small bedroom containing standard 4 ft 6 wide double bed).
I made mine by cutting down a chazzer valance, with velcro bits from salvage, and used some leftover cloth to make a tailored & valanced cover for the locking file box which serves as my bedside table - haven't really anywhere better to keep it and it blends, that way.
Valance was needed as bed is in direct line of sight from front door, unless I keep the bedroom door shut all the time, which ! don't like doing as I need air and (at this time of year) heat to circulate.
Have been sleeping in, gardening and running errands today. Weather's vile, got soaked x 2 but am all warmed up and dried out now.
A couple of days ago, I was tempted by three more of the heavy glass tumblers which match the one I have, only £1.50, and a classic design I like. If I broke mine, I'd want to replace it with one just the same, but no signs of breakages despite being in daily use and living on the dishrack. Decided three spares was just plain silly and would also double my household inventory of glassware, which is presently one tall tumbler and two very small ones.
Allotment shed remains pretty tidy but I did tweak the organisation a bit as I was sheltering the worst of a shower there. Hammered a dented trowel's point back into true and a couple of other bits and bobs. It's amazing how, if you keep pecking away at it, you get there in the end.
Have a good evening, folks. GQ xEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Ahh great minds GQ. I know I could have made a valance but tbh, CBA, it goes into the same category as curtains for me and my sewing mojo has disappeared for winter. I might have to cut into the corners but that will only involve a couple of short side finishings and I have hemming tape that I can iron on to do that
What km have I done today? ziltch, only put a few cardboard boxes into the car for recycling. I did get to use two blocks of ood dates and made date slices for the freezer. I had a brilliant nap today, sun shining on my legs, in the zero gravity chair. Far too cold to go cycling0 -
Thanks all for the ideas for what I can tackle in the car. I hate wasting time and I can actually see DD from where the car is parked so can tackle two birds with one stone!Don’t put it down - put it away!

Some elements of MKing can be tough and emotionally draining. However, every so often, you get a win that really lifts your spirits.
What finds, or moments of realisation have you had, that have lifted your spirits and really cheered you in the process?
Mine was when I opened a book to see if it sparked joy (it didn't) and a load of lovely photos fell out. I've no idea how they got to me, but the pics certainly were joyous."Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0
