KonMari 2017 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I went through my paperwork yesterday and shredded quite a lot of stuff. I cried as some of it was the documents for my two cats that died this year.:( I didn't even need to buy any new box files when I looked at my storage. I put some of it away in the wardrobe to clear some space in my bedroom.
I collected up a small bag to give to a charity shop, a dress, a book and the hat I mentioned earlier. I will look again at my wardrobe to see if there is anything else that can go.
I'm using up the end of a scented candle, I only have one left after that, but I have an oil diffuser that I tend to use instead anyway.
I have a stack of 6 books to read. The fiction can go a charity shop after I read them, but I might hold onto the books on health.0 -
I've just been into my work payroll system to print off all the payslips I haven't bothered with for the last couple of years... I know it may be silly, but once I leave I won't have access to this. At least they are now printed and filed properly. I will archive everything except what I need for the current tax year when I move back into my office...0

I gave away my lovely wicker cat baskets after mine had died, and I cried when I did that ... take care of yourself, Wednesday.

Amused at the idea of a bunnie with a taste for towelling, never imagined one liking cloth.

Still chipping away veerrryyy slowly. A wool dress went into CS bag this morning and I've pulled out another plus a top to try on later. They both spark joy to hold however I think they're not quite right on. May as well find out sooner rather than later.
After all the photo talk on here, have decided to take the small box of holiday pics and other paper memorabilia on our week away. The cottage we'll be staying in has a big table so we'll be able to spread it all out and decide what to keep together. We bought an album a couple of years ago to put them in so we can do that as well. It will be a good job done and should be a lovely thing to do together on a cold, dark winter's evening. I know it seems a strange thing to do on holiday however we just don't have time or space at home at the moment and it could be another year or so before we can get to it.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
Polly, I have lots of turtle mats but they are looking bland. I have beige ones, tan ones and grey ones. They are in process of being rolled up and tied, justin, if I don`t need them later then they will go to my two DDs, They already have a few donated mats from me and I agree, they have been worth every penny. I got the first ones in 1998 and they don`t wear out
I have tried the mat experiment, took the one out of the N facing study, it is exactly the same as the kitchen mats but a different size. Immediately the study felt plain and bland without warmth, it looks wonderful in the bathroom but is too big, so I tried a smaller one from the kitchen and it did it, lifted the colour and added warmth, makes the bathroom pop, it had the same effect in the en suite, so I have bought two at £69 each. It is galleria, colour 8080 and the size is 80 x 150. Even nicer than in this picture

Then I bought cotton bath mats in terracotta and a couple of peach/rose marble items to add some more `pop`. One is a toilet brush and holder and the old blue one will go to the tip.
I have an ikea laundry storage seat in each of these two rooms, white again and the bathroom one will be going into the garage for now. It has always been useful so I am reluctant to let it go. I am replacing with a hyacinth laundry hamper and the stripey towels, now in the right colour, will be draped over when I come to stage for selling. I am not buying anything I would not use in future0 -
Where does time go?
I thought it is about 6 months since I posted on this topic and can't believe that it was in August 2016, despite continuing on the long KM journey. I still keep up with what everyone else is doing, but by the time I have read the news I don't have time to write, especially on tablet or phone.
Recent posts have prompted me to say 'Me too' so apologies if it seems like I am jumping on the bandwagon.
I had a hanging rail with plastic cover in the loft with out of season or keep clothes in. Six months ago my son wanted it temporarily when he moved out and everything was left on the floor pending its return. Behind it, between the chimney breasts, was a stack of boxes, some of which I sort of knew were there, some I remembered when I had a brief look at the contents, and some I couldn't remember keeping at all.
Last week I decided to sort it.
Typing from memory from 10 days ago just to test my ability.
Empire line maxi dress from my first works Christmas Party 1971, hand made using 3 yards of luxurious aubergine velvet costing £2.45 a yard, making it very expensive bearing in mind that I started work on a gross salary of £584 a year (not a mistype!)
Box of Take That stuff, from first time around belonging to DD1, including the dolls and signed t shirts
Box of about 50 alcohol miniatures that we used to collect and display
Two boxes of schoolwork covering DD1s first two years at school. Can't decide whether to pass it on to her now as her daughter started school in September, or wait until her 40th birthday in a few months time.
Box of 'A' level notes, thought to belong to DD1, i.e. 1995, but found out they were mine (1971)
Manual Braille typewriter
Three crocheted baby shawls and 1 knitted blanket, christening clothes for all 3 children
and first proper shoes for DS and DD2
8 metres of mint green gingham fabric and 7 metres light green striped sheeting, intended for making tableclothes for church about 1992
Two of a set of 4 encyclopaedias, I remember mum being persuaded to buy them at the door sometime before 1963
A 12 volume set of junior encyclpaedias
School prize for 'Good work and behaviour' 1962 – a pity I couldn't keep it up beyond 1967, I might have done better at school and beyond.
Double size box of Sindy/Barbie dolls clothes and small furniture, not yet ivestigated
Sindy Range rover and dressing table
In April this year I found an original E.T. toy in the loft, I was convinced he had already gone home. Hehad aged somewhat and bits of his skin were flaky. I said at the time that I only needed to find Shergar up there and last week I wasn't disappointed when I opened one of the aforementioned boxes and there he was, disguised as Sindy's horse.
Also a weekend case containing various items. TBC.
Thanks to all who post regularly to keep me going.

:rotfl: thanks CW, that's made me smile - quite an eclectic collection but I think we've all found stuff like that in unused cupboards and nooks!
I'm gradually reducing the sort of tidemark of loose Stuff that gets moved around. The current 'flotsam' is some large pieces of fabric that need to be used/donated/found a home, they're currently on the spare bed which will be occupied tomorrow so today's the day. Once they're put away, it's just a case of tidying up current work papers so I can close the desk lid, and that room is ready for occupation.
This is such a change from the days when an impending visitor would mean a huge tidying-up (mostly involving moving stuff into my bedroom) and urgent cleaning tasks. It feels effortless, I'll run the vacuum round and make the bed, job done!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
The dress still fits if the boobs are given a bit of a hoist to put them in the intended place. Put it on as DD2 arrived, not realising she had brought her boyfriend back with her.
, but no, I will not be wearing it. Would love to use it to make something though.

Re mins game, the notepad I am using for my current to do lists contains each day's items from when I played it. It will soon be full and will be recycled.0
