:) Glad to find a fellow fan, elona. He's paused that series at 9 and is working on a series called The Centurions, set about 100 years earlier. Second one was published this autumn and the third is work-in-progress, I can't wait.

Dowerlinks, I am online waaaaay past my normal cutoff point and close to bedtime but I have been having a fabulous time for the past hour and a half sitting on my hall floor (handiest plug socket) playing with the hot-melt glue gun, various natural materials and a lot of Xmas decs. Bauble Central, chez moi.

:j:j:j Can't exactly describe what I've done because it's going to be sitting in a shop window IRL in a couple of days but the juntique shop is going to be very well dressed this crimble.:D:D:D

For anyone who has lost their KM mojo, an alternative to the mins game that is working well for me is the concept of 3 items fewer; trying to rid my home of 3 superfluous items a day.

I'm trying to get back into kondoing around a manic and unforgiving job. I don't have time for full blown category by category KM right now, but a quick ruffle through a drawer or cupboard whilst making a cup of tea is easy and achievable.

Something that has really helped tackle hot spots of komono is the idea that clutter is simply delayed decision making. Clutter are things that we have piled up to deal with later, only later never comes and all the while the piles turn into mountains. I certainly am guilty of having hotspots of 'round tuits'. By tackling the procrastination, I can bust the clutter too.

I am so busy at work that keeping on top of the house has never felt like less of a priority than it does right now. In equal measure, never have I felt so strongly that by freeing my self of excess stuff, I am also freeing myself from excess household maintenance.

Even as an experienced kondoite, sometimes all it takes is that moment of clarity or inspiration to get your mojo back.

Firebubble, re handling the books, that is what happened to me, the whoosh that came with releasing some of the tomes. I had to handle them first and after that there was no difficulty in letting go, the ones I kept, I handled them and there was an immediate joyous reaction, so they went back but they only take half a shelf. I can see me reading these when I am in my dotage

Pavlov, I did the three items removal when I started, when issues were overwhelming and I had what looked like too high a mountain to climb. Gradually the other psychological issues became fewer and I was able to scale that mountain. Now having just about finished KM, I am in a good place, having overcome grief and having learned to live on my own for the first time in my whole life. KM has enabled me to become me, a person in my own right and another upside is giving to a charity and to my own children, which is a joyous thing to do

I have done one and a half Mins games. The first one was fab, really shifted some stuff. The second one a year later showed that most extraneous stuff had gone - hence the half. I had hoped to get rid of paperwork for the second half, but that still hasn't happened...

I have a bag to deliver to the chazzer today :T. I am going to try to weed out superfluous Christmas decs this weekend too and donate them.

Re old photos, we have a Facebook page of local history.. Would they be able to go there? People are often interested and can come up with names...

I am glad the question of photos has been raised - I must have thousands and thousands, mainly of our old dog - I love taking photos and no one else wanted me to take theirs when I was a teenager!

I have bought one of those scanning apps and scanned a few old ones and it works fine. Somehow I cannot bring myself to throw them out.

I think I will start on them and throw away the ones of views first, places I can't even remember. To make matters worse I went through a phase of Tudor photos - and you got one big photo and two identical small ones!

Any tips of doing photos would be appreciated! Some are in albums some not, they are taking up the whole of the top shelf of my wardrobe, plus a piegeon hole type shelf in another wardrobe - I need them sorted.

  • Yikes, photos were a very difficult category Kittie, but it sounds as if you've made some progress.

I struggled with these because I don't have children, my photos will be meaningless to anyone in future. I've pretty much stopped taking photos because nobody but me ever looks at them. I think I'd ask your children for input - I'm sure they'd want at least one wedding photo. My brother scanned all our old family photos on to a CD so we each have a copy.

Really, if pictures are in a box, never get looked at, and only mean something to you, is it worth keeping them? Will they spark joy if you get the box out and riffle through it occasionally? If they will, then keep them - maybe putting them in an album so they're easier to access.

If not, but you still find it hard to part, would scanning them be the answer? I say this as one who still has thousands of digital photos that still need to be filleted ...

    Enjoying reading all your posts:)
Im doing the mins game too. Found an old voucher yesterday (one of the plastic card types)which the retailer honoured despite it being out of date :j.Thrilled to be able to get 'free' plants for a rather dire winter planter my kitchen looks onto.
Also using website below for added ideas and inspiration on habit forming etc (might not link on my phone sorry)

  • polly, each child has a complete set of photos on cd, so all bases are covered. It was just the physical photos that were difficult but I have finished.

MrsP, I did the views first, then those that only had distant figures, then people from work, either his or mine. I kept one of each of the three horses that I have ever owned, each time whittling away at it. Try the collage thing that I did, it was very enjoyable, printing and cutting out ovals, rounds etc Have a look at `vintage metal photo frames` on ebay. I got various sizes, all standing frames, three were small but folding so they stand open and they have fine metal frames. They give me more joy than all the photos put together, I put categories into each frame eg one contains sepia parents and grandparents on both sides of the family. I achieved excellent results by printing small on good quality photo paper and then cutting out. Printing was from cd
These were the ones and they really are lovely, I matched them up with a bronze resin ammonite based lamp and the area gives me great pleasure

  • I want to redo my household files as they are taking up too much space. I have plastic drawers that slot together for some of the things like bills, pension information, but want to replace them with slimmer box files that take up less space.

I also want to start making my way through the paper books I have and work out which ones I want to keep and which ones will be donated. I mostly read on my kindle, but have a few from charity shops or bought new that I want to go through.

I was looking through my scarves and winter gloves yesterday before I went out and one hat can be washed and go to a CS. It's in fine condition, but it just looks weird on me and I think I have only worn it a couple of times anyway! :D I have three pairs of my gloves, but the fingerless ones look very tatty. I think they were just a £1 shop buy anyway so they can go and be replaced later.
