KonMari 2017 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

oh no offence taken Carrie. Many of us used to see those words as oil on troubled waters, we did not have available childcare and most were only able to travel via publlic transport, so there were many frustrated women about. It was all about making the best of what life threw at us, going with the flow at the time.0

I mentioned on another thread that I'm getting rid of a pair of old, uncomfortable boots. I have culled my shoe collection over the past few months as I only find trainers comfy these days.bumblebeany wrote: »Oh before I do must say to Kittie re duffel coat. I used to have a red one years ago (old school square shaoe not stylish like yours) but I let it go for 2 reasons - 1 it was really really heavy so exhausting to wear. 2 I always felt like santa wearing it.
:rotfl:That made me laugh!:D0 -
wednesday, I think that is the root of it. What you pointed out, it has just sunk in. Yes it is bulky and all I need is a white beard. Maybe that is the shove I need0

I think I have finished, for now, done all the upward facing kitchen drawers, having a break.

I can't quite believe this. I'd done my books and considered every one carefully, though I didn't actually take them off the shelves.
But I thought I should probably do the job properly. I now have 12 large, bags for life ready to go to the book recycling bin. I hope it's empty!

I've just taken my poppy picture and some other bits to the CS. There weren't many things for the bag, so I had a scoot about before I went out the door and a posh tea cosy and some bits of china I had no use for also went along with the garlic press.
Also did a run via Costco to our local cats home as they put out an appeal for cat food as they were desperate.
I had a rummage in our filing cabinet earlier and have about half a ream of old credit card statements to shred. Should be able to get them out with the rubbish tomorrow.Make £2025 in 2025

I love my red duffle coat, it is 70% wool, so very heavy, but so warm and cheerful, my return bus stop in town is on a cold windy corner. I have some lovely red ankle boots and always get compliments. I am a cold soul and also have 2 American duvet coats to keep me snug. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0

I have just fetched my table home and in the KM spirit I have spoken to it, to welcome it to its new home
I bought it without viewing it in the flesh and I am delighted to find that it far better quality than it appeared in the online photo. The top is one solid piece of mahogany with a beautiful grain which my neighbour tells me is known as flame mahogany because there is a sort of flame shaped pattern in the grain.
The legs are tapered fluted legs with brass collars (?) at the bottom.
I need to turn it round because there is a jolly handy drawer in one end but in my hurry to get it in the kitchen I placed it so the drawer is inaccessible. Easily sorted.
There is one more bonus...... it is slightly lower than my original table so i won't need to sit on a cushion to eat my tea :rotfl:
Now I feel I should buy some top quality furniture polish (she says, hoping GQ can recommend the best one) .
By way of one-in, one-out, I shall take a set of very dark curtains to CS tomorrow. We have not used them for ages and they do not spark joy.I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
MMF - your table sounds really beautiful & probably nicer than the one you missed out on! Many years ago I wanted a small round coffee table. I found one for a fiver in a junk shop that had been painted white. DH thought I was mad but I'd picked it up and realised the top was solid wood - a few weeks of sanding and repolishing and it's still going strong and yes it is mahogany and gives me great joy!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

The Hamlyn All Colour cookbook, remember that. I think it was actually written by Mary Berry though she wasn't credited
I still have my 1970s Good Housekeeping cookery book and still use it constantly for reliable recipes. One thing I have noticed is that modern recipes are just more of everything.. F'rinstance a Victoria sponge recipe in the 1970s used 2 eggs in a set of 7" tins whereas now it's always a three egg mixture and of course two more ounces of fat sugar and flour. No wonder we are all heavier.
And the chutney recipes haven't actually changed all that much but instead of using ordinary vinegar and white sugar they use cider vinegar and brown sugar.
I bought the Dairy book recently after a discussion on here. Again loads of sensible recipes which work. Those two, the Bero cookbook and my old Prestige pressure cooker recipe booklet would do me in a pinch I reckon. Oh and Delia of course (that woman taught me how to cook)
I do like Mary Berry but she does recycle her recipes a lot in each new book. I keep meaning to go through all her books and pull together the basic core, scan them, and then let some of the other books goIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
