I agree about WMs. I was one o.f the first of my friends to get an automatic in 1967. I was so determined to get one while I was still earning and before I had children. Most of my generation had a twin tub at that time but I was so proud of my ENGLISH Electric. It was built like a tank and lasted me for years. I often think wistfully, as I wring out as hard as I can, that even my mother had a mangle with huge wooden rollers that lived in its own shed in the garden.

Welcome taurusgb. If you've been lurking you'll know how weird we are here and be prepared for anything that happens. It sounds as though you have really been through the mill. Well, you will be among friends here and we protect our own. Believe me, if anyone upsets you now the Fencers army will be on the case like a shot. They are a force to be reckoned with and you will be protected by everything their rolling pins, sharpened knitting needles and handknitted chain mail armour can throw at the enemy. And we haven't even started on the elephant yet, although exactly where that is at the moment I really couldn't say.
    Ask Mar.

I'm supposed to be writing emails. What evil force sidetracked me on to this thread?

NM many thanks for the heads-up on the meaning of neuropathy; I'm a total dunce on anything medical unless it's to do with dogs, and I was puzzled to hear the same word used for two very different situations, but now it makes sense.;)

When it became obvious that Gabapentin was going to do more harm than good, I was told the only other option on offer was Pregabalin, which would likely have similar side effects, so I decided to live with the burning sensation, this being preferable to trying to mentally wade through treacle just to write a shopping list (the Gaba did awful things to my thought processes).

Oh, and Mr LW is of the firm belief that the beastie that spiked me was something like a horse-fly.

Must fly; Mr LW's pal is coming over this evening and will be here shortly.:eek::eek:

Yikes, Lamewolf, we hate horseflies. They provoke the fear of god into me, I run around shrieking like a banshee. The reason being, the one time hubby got bitten with one on his hand, after a day it was bad enough to see the GP. Two courses of antibiotics, 2 tubes of prescription creams and a whole heap of swearing!

If it doesn't come good soon, pop to the GP.

I think the Scots have been sending Squadrons of Mozzies down here to East Anglia - I don't normally get bitten but I did a few days back and my upper arm swelled and there was one HECK of a red and inflamed lump!
    Must use my stash up!

Thank you - t'is done. I'm sad for my younger brother and sister for whom a share in that house would make all the difference. My older brother and I have lost out too, of course, but the money is less relevant to us. I fear it will leave a sour taste about dad for them. I am a peacemaker and can see why dad did it and why my brother wishes to stay - even though it could become a millstone. The house is to be held in trust until brother wants to leave it - which is likely to be never. A document is to be drawn up detailing the trust and the beneficiaries in the event of the deaths of the five of us who now own it. Instead of being able to sort out the legals and forget it - and get on with grieving - two of us are now tied forever to the events of that house (as trustees)... :(

On the brightside, I have had a lovely evening with my sister :)
I wanna be in the room where it happens

A busy couple of days at Chateau Nargle.....

Yesterday my OH had an appointment with the oncologist, but he was too unwell to go. His pain was like being attacked with hot knives, it radiated around to his rib cage, compromising his breathing, and he was getting pins and needles down his right arm (the side of the surgery).

I phoned the Macmillan nurse. She was concerned his symptoms might mean spinal cord compression, so sent an ambulance to collect him, giving him strict orders not to try walking until he'd been assessed.

A !!!!!!! great Emergency ambulance rocks up at our door, with three crew, stretcher at the ready. OH, being OH, walked to the ambulance. Men! I followed in the car.

At the clinic he had a full neuro assessment, and it showed he has full power and sensation in all his limbs. The tenderness in the upper middle back, round the rib cage, the paraesthesia down the arm, the chestiness - all this made them decide to admit him to hospital and gets urgent scans done.

Today he was more comfortable. He is now on steroids and Oramorph when needed. He had a MRI of his spine but could not tolerate the scanner so only the top bit of his chest and neck were scanned. From the pictures they got it seems there is nothing impinging on his spinal cord, which is good news.

The not so good news is there were signs of deposits in his bones. We suspected that might be the case, his back being painful for so long. The CT booked for tomorrow was brought forward to this evening, I assume it was done. They will discuss the MRI and CT results with the oncologist tomorrow, and come up with a plan. Do they crack on with chemo, or give him a blast of radiotherapy first, which will apparently sort his pain out? Either way, they are thinking active treatment, active management, and are cautiously optimistic. Of course, we don't know yet what the CT scan has revealed......but tomorrow is another day, and we are sanguine about it.
