I feel a bit sick to be honest. I wish I had never asked. Only my mother would say I looked like a dead drowned child when I didn't look preemed. I have no idea how many times I've said that 'saying' when describing something scruffy. No more. Thanks for educating me.

Fuddle please don't think that - it might have been something your mum's mum said that your mum carried on without knowing the poem xx

Aw fuds sweetheart, don't feel bad. We all say things our mothers said to us. It's no different from my mother calling me a daft ha'porth when I did something silly, because her own mother used to say the same thing to her x

sorry, forgot to add that very probably your Mam didn't know the poem herself and was repeating what she'd heard someone else say.

    Ah, cross-posted with Floss!

No, fuddle, a nurse said it to my dad when he was critically ill in hosp! He was lying a bit lopsided and the bedclothes were dishevelled. I had never heard the phrase before but took it to mean that someone looked all messed up. I don't think many people know the origin of the phrase and if they did I think they'd refrain.

Well, as a reward for all our hard work today we have booked a holiday in the mountains in September :D :rotfl:
I was hoping to make the trip last year but events got in the way.
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

Fuddle thank you for setting up the backup thread, great solution. I've registered but I hope I can still wave to you all here for a long time to come
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

It was probably a common phrase for her growing up. My mam didn't really think for herself.

My mam had a clematis growing up her kitchen wall in the back yard. I've been left home 13 years now and it was there before I left. This clematis never really did anything, but I I never saw it flower and although had the odd set of leaves didn't they seem to grow much either. When mam died my brother in law took it down and was about to chuck the big pot. I said I would take it and I did. I've not looked at it these past 18 months but a few weeks ago I thought I would try growing a clematis in my yard. This pot is huge so worth a go. I bought copper spray paint to give it a face lift. As I was spraying I realised that the pot had no drainage holes. The clematis hung on to life all those years in all that waterlogged soil.

I was drawn to that pot for some reason and its been the most useful item these weeks... my mam tried, she didn't have the strength to make a success of things, her heart was in the right place but she just did things lacklustre. She really wanted to make good she was just lost.

I can't be cross with her in death like I was in life. I understand now. So now I've calmed I've let it go. At least I know.

This clematis has turned out to be really quite important lol

Softstuff I can't remember what diet exactly you;re on or what you're avoiding, but for anbody avoiding carbs, Dr Bernstein Diabetic Diet is the best out there. He seems to favour rich French type cuisine and everything is cooked with cream and eggs. But only 30 carbs a day. That's the diet I got the RV on way back when he was first diagnosed and that was nearly ten years ago now. He's still not on any meds and has pre-diabetic BG levels.

I'll have a look at him, thanks Mardatha. I'm low carb too. The only downside for us is that hubby is lactose intolerant. Now I've found a cream cheese and a yoghurt that's lactose free and cheeses that are lactose free, but they don't do lactose free cream over here anymore that doesn't contain carbs as thickeners.

This cake is a lovely one (can't remember if I've mentioned it before), but I'd only use a couple of tablespoons of splenda, not the whole amount: https://www.cookinginspiredbylove.com/yogurt-cake/
I must have made it half a dozen times now, it's really popular at work (and with people not on any specific diet).

That indeed is a lot of clothes Monna and made me giggle. Particularly the clothes to impress new acquaintances... though I wonder, what would happen if you were planning to meet them at an allotment??

The only things I fold clothing wise are PJs and gardening clothes. Other clothes are hung, undies are rolled. But I tend not to have very many clothes, so it's not really a problem to hang them (I think other than undies and pjs, I have less than 20 items :o).

Fuddle, my mother said the same thing to me, but wouldn't have meant it that way. She also asked if I took no pride in my appearance.... that generally came after I'd made a real effort and was feeling good though :rotfl:

    Morning all,

Monna you aren't the only one. I have more clothes than is reasonable, and have for years. However, when I shared a room at Uni with a woman who had something closer to the minimalist range she did say that in fairness I wear them all and I'm very good at squirreling them away. Part of it is that I hate to see 'good' clothes languish and go to waste and part of it is that I just like them.

Mrs LW I was falling asleep last night and remember you telling me about your neighbours with the huge netted trees! I chuckled at the time but I don't think I responded. Ours are taller in some places than houses (I think one of them either had a bad pruning job or some sort of illness at one point). I won't be able to net them that is ok. I did harvest my first lettuce of the year last night. In part of my [STRIKE]being a nosy parker and obsessively checking right move[/STRIKE] market research for house buying I've seen one just at the top of our not yet reached budget. It had around 2 acres and an orchard. Oh to have an orchard! Never mind, if we're to pay for the house and therefore continue our present jobs 2 acres is a bit much for us, but I did have a moment!

Off to OH's mum and dad's for a birthday lunch today.

Hugs to all who need them.x
