Nice to see new faces - I hope you all know the entry price to this Fence is a cake? A large cake. Each.
After a few really terrific energetic healthy days I've slid back into a hole again lol so although I'm quiet I'm still here. Just chuck some cake at me every so often.
I made a fab sultana slab cake with Splenda, I made a nice tea loaf, and I made thee best flapjacks ever. The RV - the one who goes around with a wee smirk saying how good he is at sticking to his diet and avoiding temptation and why can't I do the same - (you all remember that RV?) well he et the lot.:D
Softstuff I can't remember what diet exactly you;re on or what you're avoiding, but for anbody avoiding carbs, Dr Bernstein Diabetic Diet is the best out there. He seems to favour rich French type cuisine and everything is cooked with cream and eggs. But only 30 carbs a day. That's the diet I got the RV on way back when he was first diagnosed and that was nearly ten years ago now. He's still not on any meds and has pre-diabetic BG levels.0 -
FLOSS your medals are showing on my screen and your posts are 4,510 in total and as far as I can see everyone else's details are normal as well. I'm still in the old green mode is it maybe something that's happened on the new brighter screen?0

Thanks for the mention of cake - I'm sitting here reading quite happily but I'd decided to make some mini cupcakes to take to a BBQ with us this afternoon....and then forgot about them. Best get my backside into gear as I need to put a wash on and get that out on the line too.
The was a lot of angry magpie noise in the garden when I let the cats out this morning. Apparently they didn't approve of the purry monsters and told me so in no uncertain terms. One of ours couldn't catch a cold so I'm sure there was no need for the racket.0 -
Well, I enjoyed all the excitement yesterday. I felt like I did when we were about 10 and used to set up secret gangs with secret signs and a badge made out of wool filched from our mum's knitting basket. Hopefully we wont need to use it but perhaps we ought to visit it occasionally, just to keep it operational.
My family set off at the crack of dawn to drive down to Cornwall where they have a caravan for a week. I think that it is supposed to be warm but with sudden heavy storms. The mere thought of bunk beds had the younger generation excited so I don't think they will be worried about the weather.
My plans for the week consist of sorting out all my clothes, all of which are on the floor of the Room of Doom. At the moment they are sorted into rough piles. Summer, Winter, Autumn, Spring, Summer running into Autumn, Winter running into Spring, Cold Summer days, Warm winter days, Wet weather, Heatwaves, that sort of thing.
Then there are the size piles, clothes I can wear now, clothes that I've worn in times past and are now too big for me but might be useful to wear over other clothes in a cold spell or, perish the thought, clothes that will fit me just fine should I give up and put all the weight back on, aspirational clothes that I will be able to wear should a miracle happen and I lose another couple of stones. The last pile has been hanging around so long I wouldn't be surprised to find a crinoline lurking in there.
Now we come to the sub-piles.
Clothes that are so disgusting that they are only good for gardening, slightly less disgusting ones for housework, not actually disgusting but comfortable slobbing around the house clothes, popping up to the village shop clothes, serious shopping involving a bus journey clothes, (the last category can double up for visiting good friends), clothes to impress new acquaintances, church-going clothes, Royal Garden Party/Wedding clothes, and a few things that don't fit into any category but might be useful if ALL ELSE FAILS.
So you see my problem.
And I haven't even started on shoes.
I think I will fall on my sword.
Either that or I read Marie Kondo again.
Have a lovely day if you can.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Growing old has its advantages. For instance, the supply of brain cells is down to a mageable size.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.0 -
Morning! Funnily enough I bought a chocolate cake from Ms Li dl yesterday, no idea what it's like, less expensive than other supermarkets, so will bring that along to the fence!

Now Mar, you know we usually welcome with cake, not demand it! I suppose you'll want to be taster in chief to boot!
Waffles and sausages were nice, and about the same sat fat as my normal breakfasts, so I'm very pleased with that. OH even said the sausages would make a nice stew or go well on pasta and spinach for a quick tea and right he is. He has also been out early to snag one of the local rye sourdough loaves. We usually just get the brown sourdough as the rye is sold out by then.
Right, I'd better go drag OH out the door so we don't have to rush to the station. He likes to leave it till right before the train is due. We're about a mile from the station and it is up a big hill, so if I leave timing up to him I end up scurrying behind him and arrive red faced, panting, and disheveled. From running Hester! Honestly!0 -
Well I'm still hopeful for the arrival of the new sewing machine but I won't be able to play with it today. DGS 25 months, announced this morning that he loved his Grandma and no alternative offers of how to spend the day are acceptable, he wants to see his Grandma. Glad he's decided this on a day his mummy has the time to oblige him. He will get a train ride and a bus ride (both novelties) and come and see me. They will stay over and make the return journey tomorrow morning. It will be a lovely treat for me and OH. Hope DGS enjoys it too.
Tomorrow I have offered to accompany OS to a local attraction that is more his sort of thing than mine. Imagine, engine, gears, lots of metal, physics and the like, examined in detail, slowly. Well I do love him and surely it won't take all day?
I will try to concentrate and hope I can be forgiven if my mind moves on to dreaming about the marvelous creations I am going to sew lol. Or, planning something I know I can do well. How about a nice homemade fruit cake. Melted recipe, not rich xmas cake type. Or flapjack. Should I offer something for those that don't like fruit. Coffee and walnut, or how about a carob cake for those that can't eat chocolate?0 -
monnagran You're like the girl in the "Shopaholic" books. She was going away for the weekend, and asked her friend how she always managed with such a small bag on such occasions. Friend explained it was a question of thinking about what you'd be doing, (for example, sitting by the pool), making a list, and taking clothes accordingly "and each garment should be worn at least three times."
Shopaholic ended up with a list which began:
Sitting by the pool (sunny).
Sitting by the pool (cloudy).
Sitting by the pool (someone else has the same swimsuit)
And so it went. She ended up taking 2 big suitcases for a 2-night stay.
Just do the "Do I love this garment? Does it fit me?" and get rid of everything that doesn't meet both those requirements.
ETA Thanks Helebore, what a kind thought! I'm trying to give up chocolate cake.....
Forgot to say that OH had a card delivered by the postman yesterday to say there is a parcel for him at the delivery office but they can't deliver it, he has to go there and pay £14.86 Customs Duty "including £8 handling fee" before they'll hand it over.
The parcel contains 2 teeshirts. Somehow I don't think he needs to pay duty on 2 teeshirts....they certainly didn't cost over £120, and furthermore he ordered four and has already received two of them with no problem *rolls eyes*0 -
How lovely Emptynester! Have a lovely weekend. And enjoy the new sewing machine when you get a chance0

I'm sure I'm not rigged up right... I have a panic on if I have too many clothes. I need something for every occasion, rain, hail, shine, happy, posh or sad and then they have to mix and match for all in between. My problem is empty drawers and a cramped my half of the wardrobe. I can't fold clothes at all. When I come to wear them I look like The Wreck Of The Hespress. (anyone know who that was? My mam used to say it)
I have consulted YouTube about this lack of a homemaking skill but I found I needed a folding board. :cool:0
