Mar, I'll have to start on scarves and shawls. I can do seamed hats but still haven't worked out knitting in the round and socks are so far above my skill level. Still, I reckon I'm good enough to bring on a bit of summer!
Softstuff, given all of your other projects I'm surprised you mange to garden at all!
Well, the lemon tree has been ordered. They'll contact me to sort out a delivery date.
I'm also feeling quite guilty. After almost 50 hours wearing the heart monitor I've taken it off. The itching from the electrodes was almost unbearable and I have big welt/hive things now. I managed to record 3 of 5 possible events. I'll pop by the surgery tomorrow and see what I should do. I'm supposed to have it until I've recorded 5 events or six days, whichever comes first. However, I'm also supposed to have extra electrodes so I can bathe and none were provided, even after I pointed out I was meant to have it six days. Either they'll give me more (maybe some I'm not allergic to?) or they'll think the three events is enough. No idea. I feel like a terrible patient, it isn't like me to not follow instructions to the letter.0 -
Fairyprincess, you're not a terrible patient. I react similarly to standard adhesives and there's no way I could have made it through 50 hours. When I had electrodes for the sleep study, they gave me ones specifically for sensitive skin and I did much better, maybe that's something they could look at for you if you need further monitoring. Have you got something for the welts? See how they are when you get to the surgery.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

FPK I developed an allergy to my mask for my cpap Machine. They were very quick to bring me a none allergic one which I have had no problems with. Do you mean plastic suction cups for sticking the electrodes to you?
You could wash these twice a day with a little washing up liquid, you need a none perfumed detergent to wash them rinse them well. That can help a lot.
I hope you get it sorted tomorrow. The none allergic ones are a lot more expensive so they only give out those when asked.
Been a bit quiet this weekend. Not had much to say and not been feeling too good. I have been sleeping a lot the last few weeks. Evey time I sit down I go to sleep.
I had washed the majority of my thicker jumpers and put them away. I think the very thickest can stay in the box under my bed until next winter now. It is not going to be as cold as last time.0 -
Morning all,
I'll contact the surgery this morning and explain. Hopefully they'll have some non allergenic version so I can finish the monitoring. Fortunately the swelling has almost disappeared overnight as Softstuff said.
Nursemaggie--they're sort of sticky, one time use and can't be re-attached once taken off--hence why I was meant to have extras to allow me to shower during the six days.
I slept a bit badly last night worrying about it, so hopefully will relax more once I've had an official answer.
NM--I haven't wash woolens etc. yet you're ahead of me!
Right, off to do a bit of work until the surgery opens. Hugs to all who need them.x0 -
Nursemaggie--I was so caught up in myself, I forgot to say to take it easy. All of this uncertainty on top of being unwell must be exhausting.0

FPK - they should be able to give you the right kind of electrodes. I have the same problem (I get a bandage after blood tests and donations as its easier than them finding the right tape...) and used a portable tens for pain relief for years. I have a whole bag of non-reactive electrodes here
You'll also find that the 'single use' ones can be reused if you stick them on the backing while you bathe and then dampen them slightly (can also be done if they are too sticky). Electrodes can get expensive (even VAT-free) so the advice I was given was to look after them and reuse - but never to share them with anyone else (so think single user, not single use).
Or you can tape over the attachments with waterproof tape while you shower if you have some you're not allergic to...
And you're not supposed to drive while anything live is on the end of the electrodes...0 -
Greenbee, that is so helpful to know! I'm not sure why they couldn't have told me that when they fitted it instead of just insisting now showers until I'd had five events or been six days! I still haven't managed to get through the surgery. Work is crawling along this morning as I can't seem to focus.0

Probably because they don't know... but anyone who has had to pay for their own electrodes for a chronic conditions soon learns these tricks
Might be worth looking online, but I can't believe the electrodes are radically different - they're just sticky pads with wires attached that can conduct electricity right? (I've also had the ones where you have the electrodes and gel separately and have to tape them on - those are the 'reusable' ones.)

Greenbee, I don't think they are different. I don't know how to put this nicely, but the person who fitted it wasn't really interested in answering questions etc. I got the impression she had a big night out planned. I've finally got through to reception who has asked me to ring someone else in an hour so I shall try to focus in the mean time.0

Got absolutely frozen to the bone this morning when I went to the dentist. Walking down the road into the north wind. Was minus 2 here when the RV got up. Bleugh.0
