Softstuff you have a lot of venomous snakes in Aus, don't you? Thankfully the only venomous one we have here is the adder, and one doesn't come across those very often.
The only time I've ever been bitten by a snake it was a Bull Snake; non-venomous, but it injects an anti-coagulant, so I bled like a stuck pig! Little blighter objected to being "mucked out" apparently! If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
LW, You must count your blessings. It's the first time I've heard of deafness being a blessing but I can see why you might regard it as such.
I can't relate to your fondness for snakes but I'm right there with you on the subject of wasps. When I was in my teens I stepped on a wasp as I was getting into bed. By morning my foot was a huge red football and my toes were just indentations in the front. I avoided wasps like the plague. The last time I was stung was about 10 years later. I was on a bus doing a two hour trip and an hour into it a wasp crawled up the inside of my skirt and stung my thigh. By the time I arrived my thigh, from hip to knee, was twice the size, bright red and burning hot. Since then I don't move without antihistamine cream in the wasp season.
Now toads, Lyn, are a delight. When I lived in my cottage I had a family of toads living in an old stone wall. They discovered how to get through the cat flap and I'd come downstairs in the morning and find them hopping around the kitchen floor. The cat would be cowering in a corner unable to believe his eyes.
What a cheek that EA has FairyP. I think he is pushing his luck and you are quite right to refuse to play their game.
Softstuff, I will now endeavour to suffer a bit or anaemia and sleep apnea so that I can recover and have a bit more energy. I am delighted that you feel so much better, if more than a little envious of your get up and go.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Afternoon all
MrsLW - do toads transplant? I'd love a few pleaseProbably because Ive had two boys frogs, toads, snakes and spiders dont bother me - nor do wasps or bees or birds down the chimney but I absolutely cant stand rats and not too fond of slugs & snails because they can decimate my plants and I can see no practical use for them.
When I was a teenager I ran round to my friends house round the corner barefoot - it was dark on the way back and I stepped on something nasty - it didnt smell but the next morning there was a large squashed orange slug on the path.........!
Been trolling t'internet for DH - found him a couple of likely motors so we'll be off to have a look tomorrow - he's somewhat happier.
Softstuff - wonderful that you've got your mojo back - just dont go too mad!!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
If Steph gives me another one it's yours, meet you half way in the tea shop as usual but the toad must stay in it's box.....can you imagine getting it out to be admired in Lillys? The screams would be audible in Gosport!!!
The youngest DD got into fancy rats and I grew to love them too, we must have had more than a dozen in a period of 10 or so years, some as pairs of sisters but they are prone to abscesses and we lost a few to that and at best they live 2 1/2 years, just long enough to get to know them properly and then lose them, big characters in small furry bundles!0 -
The page has gone all wiiiide......
Anyway. Been feeling a bit discombobulated since we got back from hols, but finally feeling back To normal, thank goodness!
I remember being out with my Dad for a Sunday morning walk along a lane, and he spotted a slowworm in the bank at the side of the road and showed me. He was a real country boy, and taught me the names of all the wild flowers and trees, and birds too. He said one of the most alarming sounds he ever heard turned out to be a nightjar.
Sorry, forgot to send ((HUGS)) to everyone.0 -
I had a builder friend who was terrified of snakes but could pick up slow worms as long as he kept chanting "it's a legless lizard, it's a legless lizard".
Another busy day, DGC's to preschool, then on to Bicester to collect birthday cake, back to collect DGC's, took them to the boat for lunch, then to Dunelm, then on to dd2's to babysit, just collected CHS and now we are home.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Ooof. Had a busy day, Spring cleaning! Lots done, obvious and not so obvious stuff - dusting and vaccing etc but also gave washing machine a good clean inside and out, kondo'd a drawer and chucked the phone directories into recycling that had been in there). Found a £3 gift card
I made leek soup with the addition of a few bits of fridge-bottom veg that needed using up.
Then I looked at lawn edging on the internet for mum, who is busy reorganising house and garden now she has free rein! Have emailed her the link.
Was going to make DH some mince pies (ys mincemeat bought last week) but am too kn4ckered so will do them tomorrow
Oh, I also found a small folding table that will nestle behind a lounge chair and can be brought out as a coffee table when we have guests*. I have some xmas money left so I think I'll get it. Just need to persuade DH that we need to get new covers made for the sofa (very worn and somewhat bland!), get the floating shelves put up and the dratted model boat moved and I will have cracked it.* no room for permanently sited coffee table!
Oh,oh, I reckon the covers on the seat cushions of the living room chairs (chairs are teak with woven cane sides and backs, as opposed to traditional bulky arm chairs) can be adapted to fit the seat pads on my 'new' dining chairs and the colours will look good in my kitchen diner:D

We have a lot of venomous things in general, not just snakes! It takes a little while to develop the proper Australian attitude to these things, a shrug of the shoulders and "She'll be right mate".
Good grief, your wasp stories made me shudder though. I don't recall ever being stung by anything.
Monna, maybe rather than trying anaemia or sleep apnea, you should just rest on a sofa for 18 months, then get up and see if you feel perkier?
MMF007, sounds like you're getting all your ducks in a row. Maybe I need to set to and clean out the study ready for painting.... :think:Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Morning all,
Relatively bright and dry here this morning, but the forecast suggests that isn't to continue. Our response to the estate agent must have worked--we had a response by end of day that the rent wouldn't be rising! Now, if we'd just gone along with it the landlord would have had nothing to lose by raising it! Honestly it makes my blood boil. Not for us, we're experienced and well educated and in no way vulnerable, but what about those who struggle to understand badly worded terms and conditions or who think they must just do as they're told? Not that we've bothered to push to have any of the list of things we've noted on the last two inspections fixed.
I swell when stung too. I stepped on a bee or wasp as a teen and had a grapefruit sized swelling on my instep. That might not seem huge except my feet are size four. It took almost a week to start going down, but seemed to respond to a paste of bicarb and water. I'm not particularly fond of creatures. I'll just about tolerate rinsing spiders and insects down the bath or relocating them on a large sheet of paper but anything else will be studiously avoided until someone else can be persuaded to deal with it. This is extremely disappointing to my mother who wishes I were more stoic, but of all the character flaws I tend to think this one is minor.
Hugs to all who need them.xx
p.s. Monna, I think Softstuff may be onto something. Perhaps your new abode should feature a boudoir with chaise lounge from which you can summon others at will. A good 18 months of this treatment can't do any harm. :rotfl:0 -
Nice to see your post Burtha, karcher I hope you are ok.
CHS has been dropped at work, he sbould have started his holidays but had to work today to cover for his colleague.
It's raining here and a bit chilly but we need to move on today, our two weeks are up. We will go for a pump out and then on to Woolhampton.
I'm tired after 2 days of rushing about, I could do with putting my feet up, but the boat is messy so I need to tidy up and clean it. I'm hoping we can find a 48 hour mooring at Woolhampton, if not we will move on towards Greenham lock.Chin up, Titus out.0
