AOD, you have restored my faith in.........something, not quite sure what. You are the first person I have ever met who knew that.

Floss, I bet you learned that at school. Isn't it amazing how the poems we learned by heart at school stay with us for the rest of our lives. I can still rattle off the Walrus and the Carpenter and Macavity the Mystery Cat among others.

To the end of his long life my Dad could recite the only 2 poems he knew. Where are you going to, all you big steamers? and Does the hill wind upwards all the way?

They don't do learning by heart these days, such a shame, I think it is quite a useful mental exercise. Even at the grammar school we had to learn various speeches from Shakespeare. Just say "The quality of mercy is not strained," and I'm off.

And I bet we all know
Oh Jemima, look at your Uncle Jim.
He's in the duck pond learning the way to swim.
First he does the breast stroke, then he does the side.
Now he's under the water swimming against the tide.

    Nostalgia is a wonderful thing.
I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.

I loved the smuggler poem Floss, I also learned I wandered lonely as a cloud and was one of the Three Little Maids from School in the Mikado.

Yes, success - go to YouTube and search Misery Farm, it is an old song well over 100 years and there are several versions.

Monna yes, in Junior 4 with Miss Bamford :D

My lovely old dad introduced me & elder brothers to the Modern Hiawatha...

" He killed the noble Mudjokivis.
Of the skin he made him mittens,
Made them with the fur side inside,
Made them with the skin side outside.
He, to get the warm side inside,
Put the inside skin side outside.
He, to get the cold side outside,
Put the warm side fur side inside.
That!!!8217;s why he put the fur side inside,
Why he put the skin side outside,
Why he turned them inside outside... "
