We have dinosaurs here too! A billionaire decided it would be a good idea to plonk them on a 5 star resort and championship golf course. Said resort closed not long after.

I am curious about the island. I think a good tour of the whole UK is in order in the future, just me and hubby. That's if you'll let us in without some sort of quarantine :D.

As Islandmaid said, we are a bit behind the times. I estimate about 50 years. That is what makes it so wonderful. Everyone, residents and visitors alike, agree that when you drive off the ferry and land back here there is a collective sigh of relief and people visibly relax.
I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.

I like the sound of that. I said when I moved to Australia, it's in some aspects how I imagined Britain was in the 60s. Not the city, but in small towns at least. People leave their doors unlocked, they say a cheery hello to strangers, they know all their neighbours, you get to see the same GP each time and things still shut half days Saturdays and all day Sundays!

Don't forget to factor in a visit to the Concrete Cows! They are literally walking (or in my case scootering) distance from my house. :Dnintchdbpict000076250598-e1485163999781.jpg?strip=all&w=1058&h=624&crop=1

I visited the Isle of Wight many times when I was young, living in Gosport meant a short ferry ride, usually for day trips and I loved it. I can't imagine it has changed very much, in fact I hope it hasn't.

I've had a 5 year old to look after today. We went swimming this morning that was quite uneventful. After lunch went for a walk in the park with my DD (who is 25, this is something to remember later in this story). Well, it started out a walk, the 5 year old took his scooter and my friends DD brought along her scooter. There was a spare scooter belonging to the young girls brother and he wouldn't have been seen dead out for a walk, so we put that in the car too.

Little 5 year old happy scootering away, 12 year old girl chatting and scooting along beside him and then me - 56 and greying scooting behind them wearing a large winter jacket looking a little foolish. When we got to the top of the hill DD decided to have a go, the downward slope meant she was gaining speed rapidly and her scooting leg was all over the place. In her effort to stop (she says the brake didn't work but at 40 mph it had no chance), she clipped the side of a bench, flew through the air and skidded along the mud for a good 20 yards.

Sadly the only one who managed to ask if she was ok was the 5 year old bless him, I may have injured my sides laughing. The scooter is now safely in friends shed and DD has gone home for a bath!

    A great day.

I've been to Gosport. My friend said "You can't miss our road, there's a helicopter on the end of it". Your head thinks "nooooooo"but you wonder...... There was though!

I did my friend's family tree last year (he was born in S. Africa) and was enchanted to discover several generations of lighthouse keepers on the IOW. I'd love a read of the gravestones in the local cemetery. I'm now trying to decide if I want to drive north to meet Softstuff or if I fancy a day out in London more. You're not that far from me either NM if I didn't get lost so easily.

I am also a person that likes to be on my own. The house troll has an autistic friend who is a pain in the butt to take to her small brother's medical appointments but who fits into our household like a dream. We hardly notice her. Today friend was no trouble as usual but her brother and mum visited for an hour after their appointment and I wanted to pack my bags and leave home way before they left. I went out for a drive (ON MY OWN) after they'd left instead. Luckily the house troll also sees things from my perspective.

P.S. Am happy to act as gin disposal unit if required :)
