Oh lawks, Camelot I hope the only thing damaged was DD's dignity!
It's as well my scooter only goes at 4mph, or goodness knows what state I'd end up in. It's due for a service soon; and as it's now 3 years old, they may decide it needs a new battery. I hope not; I'm skint, and have a holiday in Dublin coming up.

LW, how come you have to buy your own battery? Don't you come under the motability scheme? If not, you should do. I know some one who is supposed to have arthritis and she gets a new car (and I mean a NEW car) every 3 years. Everything is taken care of, servicing, tax, insurance, all she has to do is put fuel in it. If anything goes wrong it is whisked off into the garage and she is given a courtesy car. And she has this for LIFE, no medical checks or anything, and she doesn't even need a stick to walk with. You seem to be much more in need of this sort of help. At the very least you shouldn't have to buy your own batteries. I am appalled.

Ooh, Camelot I hope DD is not too stiff tomorrow!
I used to luuuvv my scooter as a child. Don't think I'd be safe on one now though!

A meet up, eh? Did we discuss how near some of us are to Tatton Park? They have a good cafe that serves really good coffee and the rhododendrons and azaleas are truly beautiful in early to mid May :D It's a fair walk from Knutsford station because the parklands are so large once you get inside but one supposes there are taxis for anyone using public transport. It is National Trust but there is charge for cars to enter, even for members.

Anyway, today's news from my little house is....
I put a cheeky bid on 2 mahogany chairs (to go with my auction-bought mahogany dining table I got last autumn) and have just had an email from the local auction house to say they are mine! Also in the Lot was a mahogany footstool that looks rather nice, too. Not sure I'll keep that though 'cos I've already got a footstool, although it is nowhere near the same quality. Hmmm. Total price for the 3 items? £45 :)
The chairs have fabric seat pads in a cream and ruby stripe but as luck would have it I was given some moss green upholstery fabric last week that is just right (I was wondering if I would have a use for it!), so i shall re-cover them and they will match my kitchen decor :D Serendipity, I love it!

The cherry on the cake is that DH, who i) hates changes, and ii) doesn't like to part with things, has given me the OK to gift our modern blond wood rush-seated chairs to a young friend who is just setting up home.

    A win-win situation :T
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

This is where the whole system falls down.:(

It seems to me that those in real need get little/no help, whilst others who know how to 'play the game', get it all :(

I apologise if my thoughts have upset anyone, it just irks me that this kind of thing can happen whilst those really in need, continue to struggle.

I've got me coat again Polly  :o

Camelot, I chuckled too :o You could always say you've given flying lessons. Lesson 2 might cover landings :D

Great news on the chairs MMF007. I've never been to an auction, not sure I'd be safe let loose!

I like the cows Lamewolf. They seem almost grumpy but curious.

Cranky, would love to see you if you make it oop north.

Maybe what I should do one year is fly into London, do some meet ups then head up north. That might solve a few issues.

    .

Ah, but you see, I left a commission bid. Big risk because you have to guess something that might get it but not too much, nor too little.... but I can't get carried away then. I once went to an auction when we got our first flat and bought the target furniture and then made a totally spontaneous bid on a large rug I had not looked at before that moment! . I got said rug and luckily it was just the job. I had only gambled a whole £8 on it (this was in 1988). I too think it is easy to get carried away, and auctioneers are so quick I think I may end up bidding on the wrong lot these days!

    Of course :j
Mid-end september is the goal, we'll start negotiating a date that suits all soon.

Commission bidding sounds great fun, but still kinda tempting for me! If I could bring over a whole container load I would :o

Mehefin, the mind boggles. I'm sure Hester can take those off your hands though :D

Your auction win sounds great MMF, always good when something comes together.

I've only ever been to those 'auctions' years ago that advertised in local press but were really just an opportunity to be sold tat and had people planted in the crowd. Probably not explaining very well.

Third sunny day here in a row, I can't stop going on about it. I'm planning to be out in the garden all day.
