I asked DS what the flat was like he said I'm having it. He was the first to see it as the former tenants moved out yesterday. He loves it and he likes the community even more. The Agent promised him first refusal if he gets his application in tomorrow. He spent 2 or 3 hours on it this afternoon.
It has about 16 blocks of flats of varying sizes. Only one belongs to the Housing association. Its designed for singles and couples, not for families so nether of us should get the sort of noisy neighbours we have here. Loud music is much easier to deal with. If all else fails you can buy a noisy neighbour a set of headphones and it is usually worth it.
He says you cannot hear the main road outside within the area of the flats it is lovely and quiet. The main road is only busy during working hours so sort of 8 am to 6 pm. We travel down it fairly often either walking or in a taxi. That is the way I come home after I have been to the Christie, I take a taxi from the station because I have either just missed a bus or the last one has already gone.
This area sounds just like a village but we barely have to go outside it for any amenities. Our corner shop with be the market, and our nearest supermarket will be Ald!, everything else we need is withing about 10 minutes walk. All just far enough away from us to have no problems from them. Even the leisure centre is only about 200 meters away.
I should stand a good chance of being chosen for the flat I have applied for. More elderly people who want sheltered housing prefer to be in the area they already live or near one of their children. I will have DS near by if we both get the flats we want. Lots of people who bid for these flats don't qualify and they are just pushing their luck.
The Housing Association have a problem with me here. They can't throw the me out because they have to move me into suitable accommodation. They can't throw the noisy neighbours out they are not their responsibility, they are the responsibility of the refugee agency. They know I am now on attendance allowance, The others may all be younger or not as much in need.
Unless the flat is so small it looks like a prison cell, I will accept it and store things like suitcases in DS's store room or as it was called in the sheltered housing my parents first went to, mum did transfer near me after dad died, the shed. It was brand new when they first moved in. They were all taking about the store room and how useful it was.
One of the men said "Oh I call it the shed" and the name stuck.0 -
Very sorry to hear that Gran3Ooh thank you - I luuurve all things peanut butter - what is natvia? Or he is the cat that got the ice cream (i'll get me coat..)
Natvia would be a good name for a cat! Or a character in game of thrones. It's a sweetener, a combo of stevia and erythritol (a sugar alcohol). I picked it after much deliberation, it doesn't create an insulin spike like some other sweeteners, doesn't taste odd (no cool aftertaste, just a bit like licorice) and it isn't laxative. I think on balance, that recipe could do with a lot less, but bear in mind I haven't eaten anything remotely sweet in 3 weeks, so with 1 tbsp, it would be a lot less sweet than other ice creams.
I'm waiting to see how it freezes, since apparently coconut cream based home made ones can be super hard. Served directly from the machine though, it was a real winner.
Next one will be coffee and walnut. But probably next week. In the interim, planning to try this for the Easter weekend family do: https://themerrymakersisters.com/sweetener-free-coconut-jam-slice/
I'll replace the butter with coconut oil, then serve it with double cream for the dairy eaters.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Cross posted: great news Nursemaggie, hoping it all goes off without a hitch for you both xxSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070

Hi All
Just found this thread so popped in to say hello. Love all the animal stories in the last few posts. Have 2 mad welsh cob mares, a Labrador that thinks its a cat, and an adopted cat (well he adopted us really) that sometimes thinks its a dog!! Life gets a bit mad on occasions!

Doh! I couldn't get comfortable in bed, my neck is so stiff. I assume it is the result of lying rigid at the dentist's for 40 mins this morning
Have got up, taken an anti inflammatory and had a cup of tea. Hope muscles relax a bit so I can get some sleep. Been a busy day yester, fitting in clients after the dentist meant getting home at 5.50pm, which is later than I prefer these days! Full day today then Friday off. I have big plans for Friday involving the multipurpose room, AKA the back bedroom. There is a lot of stuff in there but usually it is fairly orderly. Somehow things are a bit higgledy piggledy atm. It is annoying. I also want to do the big picture hanging experiment
NM, all digits are firmly crossed for you both x
Gran3, what terrible news. How devastating for the families and friends.
Welcome Mehefin! Feel free to tell us your tales of animal mayhemI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
MMF ouch hope you neck eases off and you get some sleep
NM everything crossed you get the place you want
Hester hope that ankle heals up soon
Softstuff ice cream sounds yummy might give it a go
Gran3 sorry to hear your news
Welcome to the newbies and hugs to anyone who needs them xx0 -
So sorry to hear that gran3, devastating for all involved.
Good news re the flat NM, hope all goes well for you both.
Your ice cream sounds lovely softstuff.
Well, last day at work for a fortnight, really ready for a holiday, school gets a bit mad at the end of term.
I'm going to visit aged Auntie and some Cousins tomorrow for a few days, I always think of visiting Auntie as a chore but quite enjoy it when I get there, she spoils me!0 -
I'm just listening to the weather forecast on Breakfast. Carole says that it is going to rain. She is not wrong. It is hammering down here as she speaks.
I've been awake since about 1.30am. Did all my going off to sleep activities but no dice. I may not get up in the hope that I can nod off again. I do have to have my hair cut today which looks as though it will involve a very wet walk there and back.
Gran3, that is awful news. It really shakes you up when it is so close to home, doesn't it?
Oh wow! nursemaggie. What excitement for you. Please, please may you get that flat! This is some long overdue good news.
Softstuff, will you please STOP going on about your ice cream maker. I am SO tempted to get one. I really mustn't though. I adore ice cream and if I had the wherewithal to make my own I would give up on sensible eating altogether. My 5 a day would consist of 5 different ice creams.
Nice to see you mehefin. Oh this is going to be fun, tablet wants you to be called meeting, myelin, or Melvin. You say that you've read some of the thread. And you still want to join us? Are you sure? Oh well, no accounting for tastes.
MMF I should have come on here last night. We could have had a gossip rather than trying in vain to sleep.
LameWolf, sorry I freaked you out with yesterday's THOUGHT. Try this for size.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
When people try to rain on your parade, poke them in the eye with your umbrella.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.0 -
Monna, no.
T'is my current favourite appliance so there
Given that my stick blender currently has a cracked blade, and is waiting to be sent back under warranty and my mini food processor also has a cracked shaft (there's a joke in there somewhere) and is waiting for a warranty replacement, it's important I focus on something good in the kitchen or I'll scream. All I was doing with the stick blender was making caesar dressing, now if that's enough to crack a steel blade I'm clearly using the wrong ingredients :rotfl:
And you could still have a varied diet with 5 a day of ice cream: raspberry for the fruit, bacon maple and pecan (because bacon), coffee (a frozen breakfast - there's eggs, coffee, cream, it's damned near saintly as far as brekkie goes), Avocado and pistachio (avo is healthy) and rum and raisin (because it's the majority vote here).Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
5 a day in ice creams? I'm in.
Nursemaggie I have all of my fingers and toes crossed for you. I do so hope this goes smoothly!
Gran 3, what a tragic accident. I'm so sorry.
Mehefin--only a bit mad? You'll have to do better than that if you want to join this madhouse. I'm only joking. We welcome you with open arms. We'll have you up to the requisite level of madness in no time. Have a cuppa and a biscuit...just make sure you get the biscuit tin going around, I hear the cake tin still has slices of heffalump in it
OH is off school today, but I was up with the birds (literally they were chattering outside the window when I woke up). I read for half an hour and then cracked on with a bit of work and had breakfast.
Hugs to all who need them.0
