I can still see you Fuddle.I believe that friends are quiet angels

It's been a l - o - n - g, l - o - n - e - 1 - y night.
I wish! My close, four-legged companion had me up twice and finally decided that the day had really begun just after 4 am. Do they do sleeping pills for dogs?
After the last few still, warm, sunny days we are now back to dark, wet and windy normal. Just when I wanted chez-moi to be looking its best for the viewing today.. This is one viewer who won't walk in and and exclaim, "Oh, isn't it light," as everyone else does.
Let's look at the silver lining here. The dust will be hidden. The upstairs windows, that need their outsides cleaned, won't display their smears. I may be able to pull a fast one and convince them that muddy-dog-paw pattern is the very latest thing, dahling. Leopard-skin is SO last century!
However, I don't think that dog-hair covered sofas and soap-scum spattered showers will really cut the mustard, so I'd better get vacuuming and scrubbing.
I may be back later.

Stolen thought for today .... love it x0 -
Morning.
Good luck for this viewer monna. Your welcoming home might be even more appealing during a miserable weather spell. Here's hoping.
We had a terrible nights sleep being buffered in the caravan. Today can only get better. No porridge today though as we're having scrambled egg and smoked salmon for breakfast.
Saturday, you may commence!0 -
Have a lovely weekend Fuddle - I used to love being in our caravan in the rough weather - especially after tenting!
Fingers crossed for the viewing Monna.
Mardatha - hope you feel much better today
Karcher - thinking of you X
Hugs to all others xxSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Fuddle I'm sure you'll enjoy the day despite the weather
monnagran Too late for you to read this before the viewing, I expect, so i hope it went well. xx
mar I hope you're feeling a bit better this morning! Thinking of you pet xx
(((HUGS))) to karcher, nursemaggie and anyone else in need.
Some chap on BBC Breakfast is explaining how to cook mackerel _pale_ My Mum used to cook it for my Dad sometimes and the smell made me feel ill, so I don't think I'll be switching from haddock.
We've booked a holiday to Cyprus next month. Lots of Russians go there, so that could be interesting :eek:0 -
Morning all,
Just a brief hello as it has been awhile.
VJsmum, I watched three grandparents die of smoking. My grandmother quit when I was a teen, as did my father. I was put off from it for life and wouldn't even date someone who smoked. My brother smokes though. I think he started in Uni when he was working in a bar. I was furious and very hurt. It feels like our generation has no excuse for starting up something that causes so much pain, but nothing to be done on my part. I'm not sure if he has given it up. I hope so.
Karcher, I didn't read back far enough to know what is going on, but I understand that hugs and support might be in order.
Monna, fingers crossed on the house sales!
NM, I do so hope that you and your son are both able to find more suitable housing, no matter what form that needs to take.
Mar, can I just offer a hot water bottle refresh?
Life is still very busy here, just one more week of term. I'm not sure how I'll fit in everything that needs doing but shortly after that we'll be away in a cottage for a week. I can't wait for the silence, long walks, NT visits and picnics. We're going to treat ourselves to some easy to prepare foods from the butcher, deli etc. so the cooking isn't too much of a chore and take stacks of books and the radio along with our walking boots.
Work is still good, although of course the stresses mount up. Our management always wants more with less and I've been quite disheartened the past two weeks as the things I think are important have been shunted to the side for 'urgent things' that do nothing but tick boxes upstairs. Still, I've helped several students write their best work and my work is also coming along, so I can't be getting it too wrong. It is just exhausting to know when to juggle, when to say no, and what to ignore.
Operation buy a house is still coming along as the savings continue to grow.
Well I have loads of nice plans for this weekend. Sewing a new lining for a charity shop picnic basket along with some cloth napkins, a bit of knitting, seedlings to plant and the usual chores. I might even get some dress sewing in this weekend.
Fuddle---I like a scoop of nutbutter in my porridge along with some fruit. I don't add any sweetener although it took me awhile to get used to it. I know some don't do peanuts, since they're a legume, but Aldi does a peanut butter with no added sugar if you do. You have to get the one in the glass, rather than plastic, jar. Otherwise, the wholeearth brand is a bit spendier but they do a few different nuts. I'm not too keen on the Meridian nut butters even though they have the widest variety. OH likes their coconut flavour, but not for every day. I've mostly given up porridge as even with the nut butter and fruit I still find it doesn't make me feel great. I used mostly jumbo oats, although when we lived near a healthshop I'd do steelcut. Aldi have also started doing jumbos. That is what OH eats every morning with a good dash of cinnamon, fruit and some honey.
I know I haven't mentioned everyone, but I am thinking of you all. Hugs to all who need them and keep marching--even if we've all got our own individual drum beat we make a formidable army.
p.s. I also like today's thought for the day.0 -
A neighbour once gave us some mackerel that he had caught. The smell of it cooking made me feel really sick. DH had to finish cooking his and ate it while I sat in the garden. I froze the rest until food recycling day then emptied them into the caddy just before putting it out.0

Sometimes we put mackerel lines out when we are sailing for a few fresh fish. I can only eat them done on the BBQ outside and only if I haven't had to clean them! Not a fish I'm fond of - prefer a nice chunk of dogfish!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
