Ooh FPK - an Edwardian picnic sounds wonderful. I'm imagining us all on the sands by Monna in our floaty dresses and parasols playing croquet with flamingoes!
Well done Burtha in managing something to eat - can relate to the awful 'stone' in the stomach feeling. Sending you strength vibes for the weekend and for DD.
One of the speakers on DH's stereo system has developed a crackle so I've managed to source a replacement on Gtree & we're picking them up this afternoon. Tomorrow he's got a charity bike show - no rain reported so he'll get the trike out. I will be riding with him as it's usually a really nice event - looking forward to hog roast !!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -

Well done for feeding everyone Burtha. When TLMC left us somewhat suddenly I managed to feed the house troll properly but I think I survived the first 6 months (once I felt like eating) on chip shop chips and cider of an evening. Most widows lose weight - I gained 3 stone which I'm still doing battle with now
FPK can I come on your Edwardian picnic when you make it, can I, can I? I've a feeling you're not that far away from us by car and my cousin is a lecturer at the same place that you have your new job. Tatton Park is a lovely place for picnics.....just saying
I've just given up a part time job that went (without warning) from wanting me to work 3 days a week to wanting me to do a couple of hours every day including weekends (20 hours over 7 days including some where I do an hour, go home, then go back for an hour) which really wasn't acceptable over the school holidays. I didn't have as much time to bake and cook while I was working but the extra money sure was fun (my main income comes from my widows pension and widowed parents allowance so doesn't change if I'm working or not). However, the house troll and I decided that we could manage without the extra pennies as we did before I went back to work and are now set for a couple of weeks of cheap days out and picnics with the occasional treat day (I did save some of my wages for the school holidays).
I've just chopped and frozen a load of rhubarb from the garden and I have a big carrier bag of apples from my cousin to do something with. My cousin also has a plum tree so we're waiting for the plums to be ready too yum, yum. It's good to be back with the OS'ers0 -
Well done burtha on eating something, and managing to make the kids home made pizza, you really couldn't be doing more to help them through this.
FairyPrincess an Edwardian picnic sounds amazing. I'll volunteer to come and help you eat it.
Whenever I see those progarammes or features on tv that are talking about or making food from a past era I am so fascinated that I want to cook everything myself and learn about the food and recipes. I think my dream job would be a food historian. Not that it is ever going to happen now, I can but dream.
I was thinking this morning that any part time job would do, let alone my dream one0 -
Any and all invited.. Flamingos, Floaty dresses (a sheet wrapped round and pinned with your best CS pin will also count!), croquet and yes--Tatton would be lovely and a very central point. I don't think I'd be able to transport it all down to Monna's sands...but this is all a dream anyway so maybe Monna's sands are more local in my dreams!
Cranky, good luck not taking the hours. You'll be fine and richer in time. The house troll seems a very pleasant sort.
Holly, I think if I didn't do what I do now I'd also love to be a food historian. I wouldn't want to live in that era (I'd be making it all and not eating it!) but I love those programmes too.
OH is probably tapping his toe while I print the directions...He'll probably be completely dumbfounded about the lack of crusts. His idea of a picnic is picking up a meal deal at the local supermarket. Humpf.0 -
Morning all . Just popping in to wish all a good day and catch up on the posts . Yesterday wash a really long day so will be trying to reply later .
I did see the post from Burtha last night and agree with all . You are taking each day and getting through them in a pro active way which is amazing considering how short a time it is since you had the bolt from the blue .
I hope you all have some fun this weekend however hard and that youngest is calming down a bit . I understand how devastating those meltdowns can be and how witnessing and trying to deal with them breaks your heart .
Just keep doing as you are love , with the help of CAMHS and your love and support she will find the skills to help develop some coping mechanisms and things will improve . It's a shame this has come on top of the bullying but my youngest still has her struggles but is a survivor who can see now how to deal with anxiety and panic attacks most times before meltdown occurs .
Back later

Ohhh FPk I would love that picnic too!! I'm totally in love with all things late Victorian and Edwardian, I think they did things properly then. Well the ones who could afford to eat did anyway.
I was racking my brains - what's left of them - to find something that I could do that didn't involve much walking around getting knackered. And what I came up with was getting a readers ticket for the big main national library in Edinburgh. You can go in there and request books on a chosen subject, get given a table a notebook and a pile of books, and sit there for hours. My idea of heaven!! I told the RV about it and the look of sheer horror on his face made me laughhe's not a reader :rotfl::rotfl:

And I still seem to be missing whole wodges of posts!! I only see them all at once when they come on in a clump. I wonder if that damn elephant knew voodoo...0

Mar I don't think I'm missing posts but am having a few log in problems .
You go get that ticket it's got your name all over it . Some of my happiest memories in my teens are the times I spent in the William Brown library in Liverpool . We were allowed study leave rather than spend every day in school . 6th form meant we were only doing certain subjects so not much of the day was filled . We managed to convince the head that we could turn up for the day and go elsewhere to study . It was abused but for once not by me . I would catch a bus to LIverpool and would spend a full day actually studying while soaking in the peace and beauty of the building . It took me away from the day to day and I still can recall the sunny days when I sat in the rays coming through the big stained glass windows . I love all libraries but that was something truly special .
I haven't been back for some years as I fear things will have changed but may have a google and if it hasn't been messed about with will try to go soon . Youngest is a fellow bibliophile so would be a good day out .
Still haven't caught up but agree with I think it was Floss about Tatton for a picnic also a trip to Knutsford village .
Back to the grindstone :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
