Curtains! My lovely friend brought my new door curtain today and it is now hung over the half- glazed back door. I had got the fabric and she made it up, including interlining. Just in time, I reckon!
Greenbee, I feel exhausted just thinking about the overnight flights, never mind the work! Of course we are all intrigued about what your work is but understand that this is a public forum so we can't give too much personal info. Hope it all goes well.
I rang my mum this morning but there was no reply. Small panic. Rang my brother who said he had spoken to her earlier and she was going shopping. Phew. I rang her later and she had been stocking up on essentials before the snow comes.
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Karcher, sorry to hear about the insomnia. Sleep is one of those things you don't think much about until you're not getting enough of it or it's not going well. And yes, it has a big effect on eating and weight.
Greenbee, without knowing what you do, it sounds like it would be fun for a while. Not forever though. I have do love airports, and hotels, and supermarkets in different countriesBest of luck with the packing and trips.
I'm glad Mr Fuddle had a go. Some men are so full of their own self esteem they feel the need to dole it out ad lib, those allotmenteers sound like they're all talk and no trousers.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Some are softstuff. It's just a shame that the 'some' contingent are either side of me.
As with everything in my life I just have to learn to not be so sensitive. Now normally aren't you supposed to picture someone naked in order to reduce their importance impact? The next time Mr Importance tells me I'm doing something wrong I'll picture his tiny pea seedling recoiling in the cold!0 -

Oh, that did make me laugh :rotfl:0 -
I'm packed. No idea whether I've got the right things in my bag, but there is stuff in it...
Softstuff - sometimes I like airports and hotels. Depends on the airport or the hotel reallyAnd supermarkets, although I rarely get to see those unless I'm staying in the same place for a few days - in which case I take advantage as I'm not crazy about hotel food and eating 'out' 3 times a day. Airline food I try to avoid - my bag is packed with healthy snacks in the hope that I can resist most of what's offered on the flight tomorrow.
Fuddle - I suggest you just claim to be growing stuff they've never heard of. That way they can't offer any suggestions. Or garden with headphones in. You don't actually have to be listening to anything - just have very obvious headphones so they assume you can't hear. Of course, this may mean they just talk about you... but it might mean they ignore you. I'm sure you've already looked into recycling - my garden used to look very peculiar with all the cloches made out of plastic bottles and bird scarers made from old CDs from work! Even if you don't use plastic yourself you can ask people for their recycling and then recycle stuff later in the year. Be creative - you don't need a greenhouse or a polytunnel. You can use windowsills at home, make your own cold frame or even a mini-polytunnel from waste plastic. You can mulch to warm the soil or keep it warm - it's just a question of finding the best option for you. And the whole internet is out there for you to learn from!0 -
pea seedling :rotfl: Fuddle, I think that henceforth the nasty allotmenteer formerly known as Mr Importance should be known as Mr Pea Seedling :rotfl: Brings him down a notch.
Greenbee, I realise there are restrictions on what an airline can do with airline food, but I'd swear some airlines aren't even trying to make it edible  I've taken the foil lids off of some things, and swiftly replaced the lid and wanted to get away from it.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Greenbee, the best airline meal I have ever eaten was afternoon tea on a domestic flight from Edinburgh to London. It was some years ago and I swear that the Ritz couldn't have done much better. It lives forever in my memory.
fuddle. Next time Mr Tiny Peashoot makes the big mistake of telling you what you should be doing, try opening your eyes very wide and exclaiming in tones of great surprise, "Really? Well I never!"
It works for me. I am always given readings to do in church that contain completely unpronouncable names. They do it deliberately because I enunciate them clearly and fluently. What they don't know is that I don't have the foggiest idea how they should be pronounced and just choose any old way that occurs at the moment. 99.9% of people are totally convinced by my performance. The one Mr (it's always a Mr) Know-All, who says, "I always pronounce that word THIS way, " gets the treatment. You will find that it shuts them up pretty quickly.
Well I can't spend any more time teaching you all how to fool most of the people most of the time. I have floors to steam clean and heating to turn up prior to the house viewing this morning.

I love my job
I'm not thrilled about the Brazil trip, but I'm looking forward to the others. My boss is worried about burnout, but I've pointed out that I need to make the most of the energy that comes from being new in the job - the difficulty in the early stages is prioritisation and getting everyone's expectations set appropriately. It's great working face-to-face with people rather than being full-time home-based as I was previously.
Mind you, I have no clue what to pack and I'm travelling hand-luggage only. So far my gym kit is the only thing in the pile!
Personally - I keep a list of what I need to pack and just haul out that list each time and fill up suitcase from that.
But my travels are not nearly so far afield as yours - more like a week back in my home area (ie elsewhere in this country):rotfl:
But you could make out several lists - graded according to weather/type of country/etc and just haul out the appropriate list each trip.0 -
A semi-serious thought re making up one's own "polytunnel" - and I've seen greenhouses made up of discarded plastic bottles.
The "semi" part of this thought being - beach-cleaning could do double duty - one might be able to pick up enough discarded:mad: plastic:mad: bottles to do the job. Though last beach clean I did included lots of odd bits of plastic bag type stuff/dog poop bags (errr...helllo....why didnt they take their own darn bags with them?)/banana skins/etc. But I'm guessing other beaches will yield other things.
Yep....I've added what I gather is a "millenial generation" hobby to my social life = go on group beach cleans. Certainly one way to get lots of positive comments from others about what we're doing - to which they get comments back telling them when the next litterpick is and duly inviting them to come along:rotfl:0 -
MoneyTSTM - well done on the beach clean up - the plastic waste is a particular hate of mine and we do beach clean ups here regularly. A lot of it is washed in rather than discarded
There are now a number of companies that make bricks from plastic waste - Alfresol in Wales and a New Zealand company called ByFusion among others. I hope this will be the way to go and become the norm instead of it polluting our land, sea and wildlife.
Lazy day yesterday with DS1 inviting us for dinner but today I have 'my list' Phonecalls, bills to pay, washing to be done and housework.
Greenbee - business travel aint all it seems is it? You rarely get to see much if any of the country and spend most of the time in meetings although you do get to meet some lovely people and face to face is always better (still in touch with colleagues from over 10 years ago!) and dont mention the effect of air conditioning/recycling on planes and in offices!
Do hope you get to enjoy some of your travels.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
