VJs Mum - I've always been told that curtains should be hoovered, not washed. Now I know why :)

Karcher - my insomnia reached stupid levels a week or so ago (3.5-4 hours is average for me, I aim for 5 but rarely achieve it) with the shortest night being 1hr 17 minutes. I have started taking iron and vit C again, and am trying to increase my exercise levels (I know it's difficult when you're exhausted from lack of sleep, but the endorphins help if you can get yourself out). I've also decided not to let myself get stressed about it (easier said than done) as that makes it worse. I had a long soak in the bath last night before I went to bed, and that seems to have helped.

Mind you, I've got 3 weeks of travel coming up with three transatlantic trips, some multi-city. Chances of any kind of sleep routine are nil. And I don't sleep on planes - although by the final flight I may well be so shattered that I pass out. Just to reassure everyone, I don't drive to the airport - even without the insomnia I know it's not sensible to drive after these long trips, so I get a taxi. And given that the weather may mean flights are delayed/rerouted at least someone will be there to pick me up wherever I end up!

I'll be missing the cold weather - although I'm having trouble packing for 30C and thunderstorms in South America while it's so cold. And wondering what I'm going to do about the warm stuff I'll need to wear on the way too/from the airport!

Brazil - leave tomorrow, get home Friday morning having visited 3 cities :)

Good thing about the insomnia is it should give me plenty of time to finish packing... ;)

That does sound exhausting. Such a long way for such a short time.
    Good luck.

I love my job :) I'm not thrilled about the Brazil trip, but I'm looking forward to the others. My boss is worried about burnout, but I've pointed out that I need to make the most of the energy that comes from being new in the job - the difficulty in the early stages is prioritisation and getting everyone's expectations set appropriately. It's great working face-to-face with people rather than being full-time home-based as I was previously.

Mind you, I have no clue what to pack and I'm travelling hand-luggage only. So far my gym kit is the only thing in the pile!

May I suggest layers and pack on the way. I usually count the days and pack the appropriate underwear first.

Yep, I've worked out the easy stuff Nursemaggie :) I just need to write my list of what I need based on the meetings currently in my diary and then try to fit it all in. The problem with travelling with just hand luggage is the limit on shoes... I reckon I need the same number of pairs regardless of the length of the trip! I have cashmere wraps and merino leggings for flights which hopefully will be enough to stop me getting frostbite on the way to and from the airport this end!
