But, NM, the refugee / POC issue is irrelevant? They are causing a nuisance and the local authority have a duty to investigate it?
NM - I am not a lawyer, but I did teach (among other things) the law of nuisance. My teaching dealt largely with construction law (i.e. noise, dirt etc from a construction site) but I do know a bit about it generally.
Is there not a group of you who could make a joint complaint? Weight in numbers and all that.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
On a different note, I am having terrible trouble sleeping due to OH's snoring. I love him dearly but want to actually kill him at various times in the night as it is just dreadful.
I spoke to him tonight as he has a medical check soon and said could he mention it? he says he's reluctant because he works in a safety critical job and if he has to have the CPAP machine then he will have to declare it (note: he works in safety but his actual job doesn't endanger anyone in its day to day undertaking as he is the safety director but the standards are applicable to all, whatever 'rank' they are).
It makes me cross, cos if he lost 3 or 4 stone, it wouldn't be so bad - last time he lost weight it virtually stopped the snoring. I wear silicone ear plugs but they are becoming less and less effective......
Anyone had experience of a partner using CPAP? are they noisy? or does anyone recommend different ear plugs?I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I was just explaining I have gone down the correct route, I can't go to the council if you read my history lesson the housing association is the Council. The council will probably be on both sides, conflict of interest. As I have already given them a month I cannot go back on my word.
If I go down the legal rout there will be a big scandal about the government paying our council to take the majority of African refugees. They will be yelling conflict of interest everywhere and I do not want to get caught up in a government row with DS ending up in a bedsit and me in sheltered Housing just to shut us up. If I wait for them to get on with getting in touch with the refugee agency the cards are still in my hands.
I just had rant yesterday because I actually spoke to someone at the antisocial unit who listened. As soon as I put the phone down It was as if they had heard every world and got the world in to protest. It was bannnng... bannng.. bannng.... until I fell asleep at 2 am and they woke me at 5 am. I need to relax before I can sleep.0 -
VJsmum I do modern one are almost silent. If he gets as far as the sleep unit he will be put on a diet anyway. New government directive last year, for all suspected obstructive sleep apnea patients. He will think he is one of the lighter ones as most I see at the sleep clinic are on the wrong side of 10 st overweight. Most of them would make 4 of me.0

Oh nm, your council makes me    on your behalf.
fuddle I don't tend to get diarrhoea, but apparently I have a "tortuous colon" so gas gets trapped. nursemaggie is right, peppermint oil is very helpful.0 -
As for you softstuff, I don't know what to suggest short of nailing yourself to the wall in a straitjacket.
There's probably a few people who would happily supply the straitjacket
Ivyleaf, I switched to large mens pyjama bottoms. Not only are they considerably roomier, they are very durable 100% cotton, which seemed to be becoming a rarity in a sea of jersey. You could have probably swept up the rice... lord knows they probably do worse to that in the factories packing it
Nursemaggie, every time I get a lotto ticket I have you in mind. Some problems are just so curly. We have an occasional noise issue with a neighbour that makes me so tense, I can't imagine how it would feel to live with that constantly and directly above. I'm still crossing everything for you.
Breadmaking is not my forte, I can give no advice. At least, not if you want anything other than assorted flatbreads. I make an excellent naan, a delightful piadina and my rotis would please my local Malay restaurant owner.... but my loaves... my loaves only my husband loved :rotfl: I make the flatbreads (also pizza dough, pastry and so forth) but gave up on the loaves. If I can buy one reduced for 50c (about 25p), and these are the good high end 3 quid ones, just a day old, then I'm not subjecting anyone to my housebricks.
VJsmum, if he's snoring, he might not necessarily need cpap or have to report it. Having sleep apnea doesn't always mean cpap... as I'm evidence of (mine is non existent on my side, but classed as severe on my back). Losing weight can apparently be hard to do, when you're untreated, something to do with the hormones triggering fat storage. It's a bit of a vicious circle that way.
So, I'm going to be on sleep device mark II tonight. Last night I managed to partly roll over onto this one (a feat worthy of a circus acrobat you'd think, but noooo I'm just a sleep wriggler), so I need more... well... just more.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I can sympathise about the snoring. DH is not overweight, his is caused by drinking. When he doesn't drink alcohol, he doesn't snore.
Thanks for the tips around peppermint oil. I'll mention this to DH.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
My goodness, I've just seen the forecast for next week's weather. Usually I can look at the weather map and note that the diamond shaped island at the bottom is not included in the General misery. Except for wind. We excel in wind.
However, I'm not looking forward to next week. No chance to retreat into hibernation with a house viewing, a church lunch and funeral to cater for with the attendant cooking and travelling.
Ah well, on with the dance.
Softstuff I answered your post last night but it seems not to have made it as far as the thread. I can't really remember what I said except for a treatise on a foolproof bread recipe and that will have to wait until I have more time.
fuddle, you can look back on a successful week. Not having that journey every day will transform your life and knowing that your lovely girl is happy will be a load off your mind.
Oh nursemaggie, I can't bear to think of you in that situation. If wishes were horses.......you and your DS would surely be riding to an easier future.
Well, this won't do. I must get me to the shop to top up my supply of eggs. Today's plans involve a coffee and walnut cake, a double batch of brownies, several dozen sausage rolls and a loaf. The loaf is for me. Cheese scones are already in the freezer. This will be interspersed with bits of clearing up the house.
The cooking I will enjoy. The tidying up, somewhat less so.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
If Facebook has taught us anything, it's that a lot of people out there are nowhere near ready for a Spelling Bee.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.0 -
Morning all - thanks for the cpap / snoring info.
Swedish furniture has been delivered :T OH and DS are out at the footie all day today so it will have to wait till tomorrow as i can't assemble it alone - it is 2 massive wardrobes. I am hopeful that by tea time tomorrow we will be much straighter... It's only taken 6 months...
DD has gone to work and I intend to catch up with some work myself as I haven't done that much this week. Good job it's flexible - but the deadline looms closer...
Leftover christmas roast turkey for tea with the trimmings... I might even make a crumble for pud. We are trying to eat a lot less meat - DD is 'virtually' vegetarian - but I don't want to waste food so eating it up means there's more room in the freezer for veggie stuff.
I know it's cold but the sun is out and the sky is blue so a good day to wash some curtains. I've a bunch of daffs in a jug and it's March 1st this week, my favourite day of the year.
Have a good day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Monna - its going to be a bitter north east wind so you will probably get it full on where you are so wrap up warm and wear earmuffs if you've got some!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
