oven, assume 2kw, 40 minutes + takes time to get up to temperature. So very roughly 2 kwh probably equals about 34p. You would need to batch bake to make it worthwhile but there is a capital cost for a bm
  • Well done Fuddle. So nice to hear your girls are excited by new things. That bodes well for their futures.

Everyone is being very quiet, are you all busy about your household tasks or have you all gone to sleep?

It is amazing how, if you live a fairly quiet life on your own, just mixing with other people, however pleasurable, wears you out. After my socialising yesterday I was in bed by 8o'clock and asleep soon after. Of course, my faithful canine companion was not impressed and a couple of hours later was nudging me awake again, saying, "What time do you call this? What happened to my last play in the garden?"

Today I start cooking for the Wake next week. Cheese scones and the bases of a few cakes that can be frozen until needed. To add to the complications, it's also lunch club next Wednesday so I must invent an easy puuding for them.

For now I'll leave you and rustle up some scrambled egg.

    THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Be sure to taste your words before you spit them out.

    Ha,ha,ha, Monna!
Well I went up to bed early and started my new book. I slept like a log and am excited to be going to get my hair cut. It's too long and out of shape so it will be a big improvement later. Also, it will be the first time I shall really see that I am no longer fair-haired, it's salt n pepper now!. I haven't dyed it for almost 12 months and finally it is all natural. I like it, DH is not so sure. He was against me leaving it grey. I think he's embarassed to be seen with me 'cos he reckons he looks younger than his years :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    See you all later!
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

MMF - I'm dithering about getting my hair cut. Its almost shoulder length now and I'm a beige blond - but underneath pepper & salt I expect! I grew it so that when I'm sailing I can tie it back out of the way but realistically thats only during the summer season and sporadic at that. It looks nice when first washed and loose but after day 2 its screwed up into a crab claw! I'm thinking of going for the chop and au naturel - need to get some feedback from friends!
Off to the big city of Southampton today with DGD as its her 23rd birthday and she wants to go shopping - do I have the stamina? I'll let you know ;)

MMF and they say that women fuss over their appearance. Even now if I want to give my middle aged sons a real scare I only have to wonder aloud if they are not getting a little thin on top. When they were teenagers I might have had to get them into a bath at the point of a machine gun, but every morning without fail their hair was washed in three different substances and hours spent in front of the mirror combing the glossy strands.
One of them is still very conscious of his appearance, though, thankfully, cleanliness is included in that. The other is equally personally fresh, but tends to favour the Worzel Gummidge school of designer clothing.

Sorry Monna, I was otherwise engaged watching a new series this afternoon with Sean Bean. Unfortunately in this he looks more rough than rugged.... but I'm not an oil painting right now, so I'll let that slide. And the fact he has syphilis, albeit fictionally, is a wee bit offputting!

MMF, welcome to the dark side, or should I say grey side :D I've been au naturel for more than 10 years, but it still looks deliberately highlighted. I never had a compliment on my hair in all the time it was dyed, but have had a few like this. Mostly from women though who say they wish they had the nerve.

All this bread talk made me make go wild and make an Uzbek flatbread. Dense, chewy and leaden, just the thing for a russian winter (except it's australian summer).

I used to be black. Well haired anyway. Then I dyed it as the roots came in white in my late 50s. Then I started looking like Elvis' Granny's Ghost so I let the roots grow to 2" and had all the black cut off. Wow that was great - a great feeling of liberation and back to a 60s pixie cut :) So now I keep it in a Jaime Lee Curtis cut and sometimes colour it silvery and sometimes goldey and sometimes not at all.
I feel a lot more like meself today, the sun shining like mad has a lot to do with it I think. Legs still feel stuffed with sawdust but we are getting there :) Just get this cold spell over with and then can start thinking about the garden..

Monna I'm trying to work out which son is Worzel Gummidge :D

I was growing mine. Then I couloirs it and regretted it. Then I thought what the heck. Then I just tied it back. Two days ago I went back to cutting my own hair in the way I have trained myself over the years. Don't ask me how I do it, I don't really know myself but it looks ok and is free.

I bet you all think I look like a right mess. Honestly. I do take care with my appearance. I'm smart etc, I'm just understated and a bit old fashioned.

DD went to New school this morning. Ofsted were on her class so she was ushered in and asked to sit without so much of a hello. I do hope she was ok and I have every faith in the staff to help her settle once the teaching to class bit was over. Our timing and luck are just of the rotting kind. I loved the school, it's tiny and traditional. I spent an hour with office staff chatting and doing the paperwork. The receptionist daughter also has visual stress so that's put my mind at ease. I'm just worried that when Lucy took her purple tinted glasses out in the classroom, in front of the inspector, that a fuss would be made. I'm a mam, I worry.

DD has a special kind of happy-go-lucky attitude so I'm sure she'll be fine but...

I now have 3 extra hours to play with each day! I'm back to jobs lists. I couldn't do them when on the walk because it was tiring as it was but add in wind, rain or cold and I would get even more tired. I never really knew what I would be up to achieving. Now I should be fine.

I am still tired though and having a few alarm bells ringing what with Greenbee and NM mentioning low iron levels last week I am beginning to wonder. The trouble is, having just escaped that ruddy walk I don't fancy doing it to the surgery lol
