I had a bit of unpleasantness over on the prepping thread and took the picture down and my little 'mottos' from the bottom because I had intended to leave MSE altogether and then after a rather stern debate with myself overnight I decided not to be a victim of bullying but to stay with my friends and not let an unknown drive me away. I'll put him back (I say I'll put him back but I wouldn't know where to start so it will be He Who Knows) for you later on today!

    Morning

I am really sorry to hear that. I have no idea why people are nasty It used to happen on the thread I frequent daily

I am glad you have decided to stay and not let the bullies win

I read here intermittently and may post now that I have more time as I am a retiree in training

Off sick from work indefinitely due to ongoing pain, which has been better as I have less stress

    Take care :A

Totally OT, but I'm reading a fascinating book just now, Called "The Fishing Fleet" by Anne de Courcy. The Fishing Fleet was what the Victorians called the girls who went to sea - to India- to land a catch of a husband. There were hundreds of eligible lonely young men, with good jobs and prospects, working for the Indian Army, Civil Service, Health Service, and as tea or indigo planters. There were hardly any young single white women..
It's such an interesting book, full of details of a lifestyle now gone. Fabulous parties in maharaja's palaces, with bucketloads of jewels, white marble and beautiful gardens.. bungalows in the hills where tigers came during the night and snatched sleeping dogs off verandas, monkeys living in the thatched roofs, black kites swooping to take sandwiches off the teatable or out of hands. I'm loving reading this.

There was a Somerset Maughan short story set in Edwardian times about a widow who has just returned to Britain. Her take on the Indian run was very different as her husband turned out not only to be a drunk and possibly a drug addict but had several native "wives" etc. It turned out he had been warned about his conduct and had been given the chance to find " a good wife" and settle down. I wish I could remember the title but it was fascinating especially the doubt about the circumstances of the husband's death. I loved the Somerset Maughan short stories and the Saki ones even though they are dated.

I have changed my e mail and tried to tell mse only to find I could not log in or post. Eventually decided to just rejoin and make the first letter of my name a capital letter.

    Hugs to all

Confession time...please don't be cross but I went to work today.

I would have had to get a Doctors sick note to take any more time off so I went.

    It wasn't easy, I have a physically demanding job: I feel quite weak and I've still got a temperature..but I survived :)

I've been lying down since I got home and according to my magic watch I walked 8 miles whilst at work today...mostly carrying stuff of weight at the same time..no wonder I'm rather exhausted now :rotfl:

Hope the cruise plans are still under way :D, I haven't read back yet.

Oh my word! Karcher for the naughty step! What was wrong with getting a doctor's note? So many people have had this virus, or whatever it was, that I'm sure the doctor would have signed you off, no problem.

Anyway, it's done now so get into bed and stay there. And what are you doin g about eating? If you think you are going to work without eating you can think again madam. If you go on like this you will be really ill/iller and work will be out of the question altogether.

    Just saying.

    Look after yourself. Please.

KARCHER - get yourself a doctors note! I am really cross with you because you have been so unwell - you NEED rest!!!
Tuna - just for you we will have hanging baskets in the cross trees - that way no one will trip over them - we dont want to lose any of the cowboys overboard.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
