Monna - we had: a furby, which talks even more than the recipient (clearly closely related to Mar's "Emily who can talk for 4 hours without inhaling); battle tanks (not sure whether they were for my nephew or my brother...); remote control helicopter; remote control robot; remote control cars. Wonderful meal, presents, company, kids etc, but very very noisy (and the cats were being driven demented but the weather wasn't helping them out).

My mother decided she wanted to come home around 6ish, so we've had a quiet evening... and she's just headed up to bed so I have a bit of time to myself (she's been here a week... I have another 4 days to go and then take her home, stay a couple of nights and drive back, so may completely lose my grip on my sanity by then...).

My plans for NYE include some DVD box sets, books, hot water bottles, wine and chocolates. And no people.

    I survived, it was ok.

MiL was rather difficult. She has an ability to be the spectre at the feast on many happy occasions and didn't disappoint. Her "well it might be my last Christmas" would be quite crass in any case but to say it to someone whose father died two weeks before is just beyond words. I just replied that it could be any of ours.... And now, of course, if it is her last one, I will feel really bad...

OH got drunk but still managed to cook a delicious meal - he just has no memory of eating it :rotfl:

Snow came on at 7pm and fell lightly but steadily for most of the night, my world is now lovely and sparkly white. So officially a White Christmas here :)

VJsmum, I bet we all know someone like that, who manages to put the mockers on any pleasant occasion. My pet one specialises in martyrdom, saying in a weak voice, "Don't worry about me." Subtext - "All of you go on your own selfish ways, just trample over this poor suffering victim."

Is it just me who finds all things Christmassy stale and tawdry once Christmas Day is over? Everything that looked sparkly and festive yesterday, looks rather sad today.
The most exciting thing I have planned for today is the washing of the floor where Millie has been paddling in and out.
I may get out for a quick walk this morning while it is still dry and bright, but after that it will be an easy lunch, a bit of knitting, a catch up on recorded TV programmes and my book.
    Could be worse.

    THOUGHT FOR TODAY

You aren't fat. You have fat. Fat does not define you.

    Thank goodness for that.
I believe that friends are quiet angels

Have trouble remembering how to fly.

So Boxing Day started with a bang. DS left early to drive home to go to football and rang an hour into his journey to say that he had written off the car. His exact words were "the car's fu**ed Bab".

Luckily he is fine but the car is indeed fu**ed...

Yes. He seems totally fine - we had been away but have now unexpectedly found ourselves back home. We've let him come back to go to football with his mates and we'll go back later... we thought it'd help any delayed shock and, if any injury becomes apparent, then medical facilities here are better. But hopefully that won't be needed.

OH is miffed that he paid £8 for a new headlight bulb last week - particularly when he saw the vehicle recovery guy wrench the headlight off cos it was dangling. :rotfl:

Morning all - huge hugs to all of you. Mardatha I'm imagining you nice and warm and cosy on a crisp snowy day. Hester hope you and CHS are snug on the boat. Monna enjoy your walk and have a nice relaxing day. To vJsmum glad DS is OK - hope you can relax a bit after MiL has left! So many of the gang are experiencing tough times but are still battling on - I really salute you all and heartily hope that the new year will be kind to all
    Love xxx

Ps - Glad you had a good day with your Dad MMF. Monna I'm imagining you like the Christmas advert where the child is bought a trumpet and the mother's eyes narrow every time he sounds it!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
