    Speaking of funny phrases -
When my grandad was in a care home, quite confused, he was asked what he wanted for dinner.
He replied, quick as a flash, "Pig's d*** and lettuce!". * the asterisked word rhymes with sick.
I am pretty sure he couldn't have made up himself but non-one else had heard it before.
Needless to say it has entered into our family parlance :rotfl:
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

VJsmum Sorry, I meant to comment earlier - that sounds just right for your Dad's wake :)

I was going to say MrsL is in Berlin, but fuddle got there first (not to Berlin though).

VJsmum you are doing him proud. I hope it all goes well x

I'm feeling slightly under the weather health wise but needed some fresh air so I had a sedate walk to the SM and came up trumps with some YS Smoked Salmon :)

See the Cooking For One thread for details.

I never buy Smoked Salmon as it is expensive (for me) but it is my treat to myself, I just hope I can manage not to eat it all before next Monday ;)

I acted quick ivyleaf because the pain has gone. I can breathe via my diaphragm again and I've just walked up to Durham Cathedral for a remberance service with my sister and I was less out of breath than her! :D I just need to stop picking up infections in the first place. I need a new plan ;) thanks for asking x

I got smoked salmon trimmings as they are cheaper.

I am so glad your breathing is a bit better. Have you thought of trying vitamin D3?

I have elona. I've been reading a lot of scientific papers about vitamin d for lungs and plan on looking at 2000mg a day. I'm going to check with GP in the morning when I have my check up then have a look in the pharmacies.

I've been reading about taking echinatia (I can't spell it sorry) but it seems to be dodgy for autoimmune issues so I think I'll stay clear.

Elona I've read about people putting Vicks round their nostrils as a barrier. Is the eucalyptus oil likely to irritate my skin if I try that do you know? I know you have more knowledge of these type issues than most. ;)

Fuddle - I hope no-one minds me de-lurking, but just wanted to say if you are thinking of taking D3 please check out taking K2 also, I understand that it helps the absorption of D, and perhaps more importantly drives D to the bones and not the heart where too much can cause problems.

I have to make do with Vicks on a tissue in my PJ jacket pocket as I cannot put it onto my skin:( You could try Vaseline as a barrier around nostrils, I use it in hay fever season.

Fuddle I take a low dose of Vit D every day and have done for some years, but thanks maddiemay for the tip about K2. Ive never had any health problems but am getting to the age where I have to face the possibilty that my luck must be due to start running out. Hence the sudden interest in vitamins. Well done on the stiff walk to the cathedral fuddle, you must have felt great.

VJsmum, brilliant idea about the wake. I think that is something that everyone will enjoy and much more relaxing than eating sandwiches in a hotel room, that is what happens often.

Much love to you and MMF, not forgetting burtha, csarina and everyone else finding life difficult at the moment.

The big cooking bonanza starts in a kitchen near here today. I'll drop in from time to time. Please ignore the sticky fingermarks on my posts.

I had a crush fracture of my T12 vertebra 18 months ago and discovered as a result that I had osteoporosis. I decided not to take bisphosphonates. (I have problems with my eyesight and one of the listed side effects of bisphosphonates is an increased risk of uveitis or scleritis - I can do without adding to the litany)

I've been taking K2 for just over 18 months now It comes as part of a supplement that also includes magnesium (which also helps uptake of calcium) and various other helpful things like zinc and boron

I had another bone density scan last month and the results are quite encouraging. My T score for my hip is -1.7. Osteopenia starts at 2.0 and osteoporosis at -2.5. So my hip isn't even in the osteopenic range

Lumbar spine is harder as there isn't much weight bearing exercise you can do as part of everyday life that benefits the spine directly. However last time my lumbar spine score was -2.9 (severe osteoporosis starts at -3) and now it's -2.7 So heading in the right direction and given that bone loss normally increases, I'm quite encouraged
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
