Sorry about the novel. I have got it off my chest now. Thanks for listening.

I only broke down in tears and shouted a bit in the chemist no throwing things around.

NM, happy to listen, that's what you've all done for me this last few weeks.
I must admit I had an image of you hurling things off shelves in the chemists!

We visited dad at lunchtime, at suggestion of nurses, to see if we could persuade him to eat. When we got there dad told us to go away and come back tomorrow. We agreed to wait in the day room while he had a rest. We waited 45 mins and re-visited. He was fine, read some xmas cards we took to show him, agreed to have a v.short convo with his sister via mobile. Then the nurse announced that the local pipe band were coming in. Oh bu44er, says dad, I can't stand that.
The pipe band marched down the corridor and dad waved and gave thumbs up and smiled at them all. He loved that some visiting kids were dancing, too!
Eventually the music faded and I told dad I could see them going through the exit.
He said, "Is the door still open?"
    Me - Yes.
Dad - "God", he said, "That means they can still get back in!" He laughed his head off.
    He loved it.

Before we left, we explained to him, again, why he needs certain meds (that he refused this morning), and asked him to do an experiment (he has a scientific background, ya see) - could he take the meds and then have just 3 spoons of dinner. If that worked, he could have more tomorrow. He mulled this over and then said he would do that and he would report back to us tomorrow!
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

You are lucky Hester, I have been too busy to stick pins in the plasticene today, but it's on my to-do list.

Sorry about this morning mar, I hope you got on better with your soup than I did. I got to the simmering bit and realised that the gas had gone off. It does this occasionally and I have to summon DS2 and he delves into the boiler cupboard, mutters a few incantations, or at least that's what he tells me it is, it sounds suspiciously like swearing to me. Anyway, it does the trick.
Unfortunately this morning he was elsewhere on the island doing something connected with Pickle and ballet and wouldn't be back until this afternoon. So I had no soup and no hot water and no heating..All Well again now.

nursemaggie, what a situation! No wonder you had a melt down in the chemists. I should think it has been well overdue. I pray that you will be able to get out of that place soon if not before. How you have stuck it I can't imagine.

MMF, I confess that I can't help admiring your Dad for being cantankerous to the end. Not easy for his family but what spirit!

VJsmum, This is the really horrible bit. Just when you need peace to be able to grieve you are plunged into all the formalities and legal stuff. I'm so glad that your siblings seem to be pulling together. It would be awful trying to do it all on your own and worse if there was bickering and unpleasantness. It will pass, really it will.

It has turned quite cold here and I'm debating whether it is too early to make hot water bottles etc and get into bed to watch TV. Ah, it is a bit isn't it?

    On the other hand..............why not?

If I'm not about later, I'll see you all in the morning.

MMF007 Its just a huge Joke being cantankerous to your dad. He sounds like he is thoroughly enjoying other peoples reactions.

monna don't stay in bed until morning. You need to get out a few times or you muscles will forget how to walk. I think you may need to warm up the hot water bottles before you go to sleep.

This is especially for anyone else who wraps presents like me. They look like Mr Bean wrapped them!

I just noticed this on YouTube. saw this girl wrapping diagonally. It's for when you cut a piece of wrapping paper just a little to short and what ever way you try to wrap the present it will not meet in the middle. I could have done with that yesterday as I did that with two presents.

This saves money and makes things easier to do. Once you have watched this one you will find lots of other tips too.

    sorry I forgot the URL.

Monna please don't mention 'up and down like a harlot's knickers' again. I can't cope with the thought of my grandma person knowing about such things y'see. :p

    Quite.

No one had 'relations' in the past :p

It's a new thing and older generations know nothing at all about it...do they?

    :)
