VJ's you brave brave lady. I'm blown away by your strength to be able to compile such a book at this time. I can see how it would be cathartic for you but I can also understand that it would also be a painful experience. Your siblings will cherish it.
I don't know if i could have started it - but it was more than half way completed. I sort of concentrated on getting the arrangements right and making sure each was centred and I had featured people more or less equally - practical stuff... I have to do something but am struggling to concentrate on much...I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
We took laptop in to dad today and showed him photos of the karate kids and there was a video on there from 2 xmases ago - we had dressed mum n dad up in xmas jumpers, put cottonwool beards on them, and xmas hats, and made them sing xmas songs with us all. Dad loved seeing it and he actually laughed.
We did 3 visits today, having a picnic lunch after first visit. Second visit we looked at the photos. Dad was very tired but didn't want us to go so we struck a deal - if he had a nap for 30 mins we'd come back to the ward (there's only him and one other chap in there) and stay a while longer.
It worked. He had a rest then actually said he would drink a cup of coffee but "I am not supposed to drink it". I was able to provide some decaf coffee and he jumped at it (we had our picnic flask with us, of course!). He actually drank half a cup and asked for the rest shortly afterwards. He then asked for a banana. Now he hasn't eaten any solids for 3 weeks. The nurse quickly found a banana and he had a bite and said it was OK. Clearly he wasn't going to tackle the remainder so I asked if he wanted me to save it for tomorrow and he said yes. He also requested a bacon and egg butty!!
He was cross that we were not going back tonight. I pointed out that he has been lying in bed getting looked after whereas we are knackered, but he was not convinced we had a good excuse!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Hope you got your sloe gin bottled and you both enjoyed what would not fit in the bottles Hester.
I once went to a funeral that was all in Welsh. I knew it would be as all the family were welsh speaking. I had no idea what was going on.
Her daughter got up and said "Mum was very fond of Maggie so we are going to sing an English hymn for her"
Guess what? I had never heard the hymn before. Nor have I heard it since. I think we may have been angry for you, when they were trying to be kind. If you cannot hear what is going on you don't know if you should be sitting or standing.
MMF007 I think you are going to have to be firm with your dad and tell him your mum is exhausted.
monna I meant to say earlier, your word may mean something in Polish it looked a very Polish word.0 -
Good morning all.
MMF and VJsmum You must both be wondering what today will bring. Just do what's in front of you, it's no good trying to over think things.
burtha, this must be a very difficult time for you. I think about you a lot, and I dont think I am the only one.
It's blowing a gale at the moment. Not thrilled about that as I have to walk up to the main village later on to fetch my prescription, and I dont like walking through the woods when it's blowing this hard. It's no longer to go the road way, but not so pleasant.
I also have a parcel being delivered some time between now and 10.0pm. Very helpful. I bet they try to deliver it while I'm out and that means all sorts of complicated arrangements.
Anyway, just 2 more letters to write and that should be the end of the card sending.
Here we go.

Good moring Fencers. Quick visit to ask a Q. I want a wee thingy and don't know what it's called. I have seen them somewhere but not a clue where it was. Aren't I helpful?
I live on my couch a lot, and need all my wee fiddly bits close to hand. I want one of those wee organiser/pocket thingies that will stick or hang on the side of the chest next to my couch. Currently got everything in the top drawer of the chest (2-drawer Malm from Ikea) and I have to stand on my head and twist right round to get anything out of it. If any clever soul knows what the utter hell I am talking about and can suggest something, please do. I'll give you my last jelly baby.
Ok so it's a bit old and bit foosty and yes the cat did sniff it, but it's ok, I washed it.0 -
Mardartha I think they call them remote control organisers but the ones I have seen usually drape over the side of the chair/ couch. I have seen drawers with sections on the side but that would be expensive. I have seen them in those mail order catalogues - 'someone of Bath' etc. I have also seen cute cat shaped ones but it was a while ago.
Could you not make one or get someone to make one for you. The chair ones are basically a length of fabric with the ends turned back and then sewn to make seperate pockets - they could even be stapled or done with the iron on stuff you can buy for hemming/ repairing trousers. Please keep the jelly baby.
I know the problem, one of the many areas I have to tackle is my bedside chest of drawers as it's at cascading all over the floor level again (and I killed another alarm clock this week). I recently bought a cutlery caddy from the pound emporium. It has 3 slightly stepped levels, the middle 'step' is divided. Found it very useful for holding my tablets (I keep one foil of each out and the rest in the top drawer - some days I have to count to work out whether I have taken them), my glasses stand on end in one section (put on first thing in the morning and taken off last thing at night) and there is room for scissors/ a few pens etc (some of the many things I like to have handy).
My son and his gf have colonised the front room so I live in my bedroom a lot.
Sorry to interfere, I often read along. I love reading about your adventures but don't have much to contribute atm.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Mar, do you mean something with pockets, like those shoe organisers that hang on doors, only smaller.? Don't know what they are called but try googling, 'Side of chest organiser' and seeing what they come up with.
I'll pass on the jelly baby, always supposing that my helpful suggestion wins the competition. Eat it yourself. Go on. I dare you.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Normal service as been resumed, I have stopped sniveling and put my big girls knickers on. I put on my Margo Leadbetter voice and complained vociferously about my daughter's helper and followed up my complaint in writing via an email.
To be fair I was met with a long suffering sigh and almost an oh dear what's she done now.
The volunteer in question is supposed to go and look after DD's three yo for a couple of hours so dd, who has four jobs and a husband with psoriasis arthritis, has chance to catch up with sleep or housework as DD copes better with her other issues if she gets an occasional break.
I have a feeling the volunteer will be getting a severe bo££0king, but it is nothing to what she would have got from me!
Another one here worrying about Burtha and thinking of VJSMUM and MMF.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Mar they are on Amazon listed as hanging organiser with pockets.
I have one on the wall beside my chair on the boat, we hang up as much as possible as there isn't much room.
No thanks to the jelly baby, I bought a bag full on Tuesday and ate the lot! I'm jelly babied out.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Would one of these be good? http://www.lakeland.co.uk/45890/Cream-Faux-Leather-Make-Up-Storage-Caddy
I bought them for mum n dad to have beside their armchairs and they are fab. It would sit on the floor within arm's reach and you could see what was in it easily?
There is also a smaller one that i use for deo, inhaler, body spray etc, as I transport the essentials into the back bedroom to get ready quietlyif DH is not at work that day.
PS - I love jelly babies but have just topped up my car supplies, taI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0
