Is there a secret way of stopping thick soup from sticking while it is simmering?
Short answer, No.
It helps if you stand there stirring with a wooden spoon but to my mind simmering is one of those things, like soaking and airing, that should get along on its own, without bothering you.
As for split infinitives, sorry to be such a pedant, old habits die hard. I wonder if anyone teaches English grammar these days. Judging by some of the things I read in newspapers, I somewhat doubt it.
Had a brilliant idea this morning. Instead of laboriously writing long letters I would make a quick phone call, exchange news and then I would only have to sign my name on the card. It was a good idea as good ideas go, and as good ideas go, it went.
The first phone call lasted a tad under an hour and when I put the phone down I was exhausted with laughing and had to have a restorative coffee.
Back to pen and paper.
MMF I feel tired just reading what you have accomplished this morning. Stop showing the rest of us up please.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Monna is it the same thing you're wanting to tell several people? In which case could you type it up and print off several copies to include? Or even if it's not all the same thing, have a bulk bit in the middle you can keep the same and top and tail with anything for that individual letter.

Experts now say there is nothing wrong with split infinities, and there never has been it was always OK. Anyway language is living and changing all the time. If I don't agree with that DS calls me a "Grammar Natzie".0

Mardatha, far from me to assist you in soup making as I can only do 2 sorts but I got a new pot and nothing sticks to it. Is yours pretty old?0

Oh, experts will say anything to prove themselves right and the rest of us wrong. I'm just old fashioned, I know. Yet if we a start messing about with things too much, meanings become ambiguous, as the book "Eats shoots and leaves," proved.
Slinky. Writing a master copy would be the best thing to do, unfortunately my laptop and printer have taken a dislike to each other. I think divorce is on the cards. So everyone will have a happy time trying to decipher my handwriting. It would probably make a good Christmas afternoon game. I can hear the conversation now.....
"What's this word? It looks like Thwort."
"No, look. This letter is obviously an 'f' there is another one like it here."
"So if that is an 'f' then this must be a 'k'.
"But that would make this word, 'fwjukz.'
"No, you can't have that. It isn't even a word."
"I bet it is. I'll go and look it up in my Scrabble dictionary."
Why do you lot set me off?
Back to the cards. I am going to spend 2018 falling out with all my friends. That should put an end to the card fest next year.I believe that friends are quiet angels

So Monna is a closet trekkie!
Before I retired I would frequently correct documents sent to me by teaching staff, before printing them. I barely scraped through my 11+ and left school at 15, but my spelling and grammar are very good most of my mistakes are down to my tablet.
I have no other useful skills, well none that aren't X rated. Oh and I can make a bull whip whistle and crack.
The ice has melted, the ducks are back to swimming instead of skating as is the swan.
CHS had a meeting at work today, the powers that be wanted to discuss 'optimising the shift system to increase letting opportunities' in other words make the caretakers work until 11 every night and make them work all day Saturday and Sunday. All for £15000 a year.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
