karcher petal, if the OSers are like me then they may appreciate reading discussions about this and that when times are sad. For me, even though it's nice to have a place that is sensitive and caring, it's also nice for the talk to move on and therefore distract me from my troubles for a short while. That's just how I feel about the threads here when I'm having a difficult time.

Don't be sorry karcher. When you are grappling with some of life's nastier moments it is good to be reminded that life is going on somewhere else. Times when you feel that you are looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope, a bit of normality can be a blessed relief.

nursemaggie, you can't get out of that place soon enough. What with the condition of the place, the distance your DS has to commute and now the noise problem, it must be intolerable.

I've made a start on the the great card marathon. I thought I might prune the list this year but I can only find one name I am happy to cross off and that is because the dear lady is no longer with us. The writing of them takes ages because we all cram a year's news on to the card. The handwriting gets smaller and smaller.
I think I will have to take out a small mortgage on the postage.

It must be cold as DS2 came in wearing his cold weather hat. It is a hilarious concoction that makes him look a bit like Heidi, complete with plaits. DS2 doesn't often feel the cold and pours scorn on us wimps who need scarves, gloves and boots to get by. Apparently he had just taken Dora for a walk on the beach and Dora had plunged straight into the sea and was reluctant to come out again.Other dog walkers were aghast.

    Snuggle up everybody.

Karcher, that's what these threads are for....

Can't help with the shower curtain but a bleach and bicarbonate of soda paste applied to grout and left a while before rinsing off cleans that pink stuff off grout...

Momma - gave up doing cards last year, I hated it so. We posted a message on Facebook wishing everyone merry Christmas and happy new year and that we would donate the price of cards and post to charity. This year we have donated to a homeless organisation and the Trussell Trust..

I hate to see homeless at any time, but especially when it is so cold.

Seven churches in our town have opened their doors to the homeless, one each day of the week, for December, January and February. They get a bed for the night, a breakfast and a packed lunch as well as the chance to wash. .

  • Monna if I have to write a long epistle at Xmas, I write it on a separate sheet and just tuck it in the card. That way the recipient doesn't have to use a magnifying glass.
Karcher I second Fuddle etc. Sometimes bland or routine conversations are needed during times of worry, sadness or stress, to show us that there is still life out there.

Blame the dog, she is worse than a baby. She woke me up to go outside at something past midnight and again at something past 3. We are both old and have to have loo breaks during the night but it would be nice if they co-incided once in a while.

An absolutely beautiful but baltic morning here. The sky is a perfect pale blue shading to white then pink. Was full of very bright stars earlier, just totally still and silent, beautiful dawn now. Such a fabulous world we live in, if we could only get the energy to raise our heads sometimes and really look at it.

Absolutely right mar, we miss so much by keeping our eyes on the ground. Although keeping an eye on the ground can save a few slips and slides in this weather.

It is bitter here today. I got out of bed a couple of hours ago and reheated my warm patch, made a mug of coffee and put on a second pair of bedsocks.
The oiled filled radiator has been on permanently for the last few days but it is still only 13° in my room this morning. Fine while I'm in bed but my hands are freezing holding the tablet. I'll get out soon, make some warming porridge and get back into bed. Keeping warm has to be the priority today.

Later on I'll write a few more cards and take a brisk walk up to the post office to post them.

    THOUGHT FOR TODAY

I am so thankful for Facebook. Without it I would have had to phone 438 people to tell them that I have been Christmas shopping.
