Monna, thank you for posting about your dad. Somehow it helps to know it's not just us/dad that this happens to, iykwim, :(

Unbelievably, hosp say dad has held his own for several days now and his lungs are not as congested. When he went in to the cottage hosp last Weds they actually thought he wouldn't live 24 hrs. Now they are tentatively looking at rehab!?! He has looked worse the last 2 days even though he really hasn't looked that poorly since his collapse, even when in the full throws of pneumonia. So we are still on the roller coaster.

My brother wants mum to stay with him for xmas, rather than be home alone while dad is in hosp and I have return home.
(it's nearly 3 weeks I have been away from work and there's no pay for absent self-employed workers)

. I think that is a great idea. We haven't told dad yet and I expect some rellies will be unimpressed but mum is seriously ill herself and we don't want her to be on her own. Dad, of course, will still be in hosp, providing he continues to improve, so he'll be well looked after and lots of friends will visit. That's the plan, anyway, but things can change....

I feel I am juggling things to try and do the best by both of them, hope it works out.
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

Karcher - the pink on your shower curtain is soap residue as soaps contain various amounts of fat which also contributes to the mould at the bottom. If all else fails bleach will do the trick as it's a mould suppressant too. Just give the bottom a soak in a bucket or bowl of diluted bleach for a short while.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

MMF I completely understand your situation and my heart goes out to you.

I think it is a good idea your Mum goes to your brother's, she needs to look after herself too.

Spending hours in a hospital, seeing someone you love so poorly is exhausting, emotionally and physically draining and when she is struggling with her own illness, it is even more important she gets some respite.

Not easy for anyone concerned but for the best I think.

Take good care and love to you all xx

MMF007 I am sending gentle hugs as your poor head must be spinning. I hope things work out whichever way you need it to.

Karcher that pink stuff on your shower curtain might be soap, as silvasava suggests, but it is more likely to be a bug called serratia marcescens, which appears in your bathroom as a pink staining, often on your tile grouting but also has been known to sit on shower screens and curtains. It can cause respiratory and skin infections, so do as silvasava suggests and kill it with bleach. It is a living organism, but now is not the time to embrace your inner Buddhist.

Hugs MMF, my dad was my mum's carer, and a very good one he was too. Unless he was ill....

Huh? Nargle I had that pink stuff in the holiday home we had in Scotland last year when I ended up seriously ill. You might have just solved a bit of a puzzle!

Nargablast That is what I have a big coating of on my bathroom walls. The bleach does not kill it at all it is still there after I use
a full bottle of so called mold killer. and scrubbed if for hours. I know what it needs is the tiles taking off and scrubbing clean and then re-tiling with anti mold mortar and grouting. My housing association will not do it and I could not manage it on my own. With DS commuting 5 hours a day there is no way he has time to do it. He is getting no sleep because of the family upstairs. He is just utterly exhausted.

I think I have some sort of chest infection. I still have a cough from the cold we both had in October. It does not hurt to breath but it hurts to cough and I have had a pain in my right side for about a month. The hospital said it can't be anything serious or it would have shown up on my scan. I am not so sure. I may have to wait for over a week to see my GP.

    Thanks both.

I have bleached it in the past, but after reading your post Nargleblast, I think I may just buy a new one.

ETA: :o It feels so wrong talking about stained shower curtains when people are so upset and their lives are being turned upside down...Sorry :o
