@ VJsmum, you are not only dealing with grief you are probably in shock as well. As you say, Monday your Dad had a bad knee and on Friday you are facing losing him. You've had no time to adjust. Be very, very gentle with yourself, there is a small army out here hugging you with thoughts and prayers, you are never alone.
MMF, I know it's quite inappropriate but I can't help an inward grin at your Dad. Either it is the medication talking or it is lack of oxygen to the brain, or, and I suspect this is really the case, he has always been like this and is now being more so. Your poor .mum though!
When you are on your own with him could you not say to him something along the lines of, "Of course, Mum has always been so good, she has been wonderful in the way she looked after us all." Then, if he doesn't flatly contradict you or throw a tantrum, this can be reported to your Mum as, "Dad will never say this in front of you, but he has let me know that he thinks you are wonderful."
It's stretching the truth a tad but I think it may lift your Mum a little. Poor lady, she deserves some comfort
Very perceptive Monna. Yes, he has always prioritised himself. Stupid of me to think he may want to atone at this late stage. Hey-ho, I got a decent amt of sleep, although not all in one go. Roads look icy but will hopefully be ok by the time we are ready to set out.
VJsMum, just a giant hug from me (((0))) - such a shock and so difficult for you all. At least we knew dad had a weak heart and that he could have gone at any time in the last 2 or even 3 years so it was no surprise for us.
May I try and write a 'smile for the day' -
My neice, aged nearly 6 was being teased by her uncle. She got fed up, turned round to him with her hands on her hips and said, "You do KNOW I do karate?" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Second smile for today - we've just had an emailed photo of my 13 y.o. nephew, also a karate kid, getting his black belt after his grading last evening!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0

MMF thank goodness for children, if it were not for them we would all be in danger of taking ourselves seriously. I love the stories of the Karate Kids.
Not much from me today as I have suddenly panicked about the fact that Christmas is going to happen in a couple of weeks and I have about 6 weeks work to be even remotely ready for it. In a short while I will get myself up to the shop to see what they have in the way of cards, then I will see how many stamps I can afford, then I will try to remember who I want to send them to and THEN I will set about writing them. My Christmas box that has all my essential festive stuff in it is buried in the back of my friend's barn behind all her granddaughter's furniture. I won't be seeing that this year.
Try to stay warm and safe everyone.
The mention of Einstein in the middle of the night reminds me of his famous quote that will do for......

but if you judge a fish
by its ability to climb a tree,
it will live its whole life
