Has anybody on the Fence had to totally cut off all contact with one of their (adult) children? How did you cope with it?
    - feel free to answer me in PM if you prefer.

Thanks, though there is quite a lot that I haven't put here and he HAS had it quite cushy...

But I accept what you are saying about his lack of a break and he must see his options running out. Even my sister said she feels sorry for him, I never thought I would here that. I am much softer than her so I have long felt quite sorry - even though a fair amount of his issues have been his own fault.

We certainly have some things to think about and some enquiries to make thank you for your advice.

Sympathies to NM, VJsMum, and Hester, and fanilies.

Hope you don't mind me updating re my dad. He is lucid but critical and not responding to treatment. He is on massive dose of oxygen. Doc took us to one side today to advise how bad things are. Extremely weak heart valve means, poor oxygenation, added to pneumonia and other issues. Heart surgery is out of the question (for several practical reasons). Doc has told dad as well.
The staff are all fantastic, we couldn't ask for more. They say they haven't given up on him yet but have prepared us for the worst.
Weirdly, we almost felt like dad was a bit better this evening, had a good chat an a little joke, but we know that medically he is not improved.
A waiting game to see which way the cookie crumbles.
I am staying at a nearby hotel with mum and we can visit at any time.
Thank you for letting me offload. It's a help.
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

MMF007, this is an awful time for you. I am so glad that your Dad is in such a caring place, it helps that you are not having to battle to get him any attention.
In situations like this it's good to have family around you and share the feelings. Your mum will be so glad of your support.

We are all thinking of you and like nursemaggie I will be praying for you all.
