Goodness me, you must all have had a good sleep. Really I have nothing much to report since last night. I am still not adjusted to the time change and wake up early. My clock that is supposed to change itself by some sort of telepathy, still hasn't. The date, day, and temperature is correct but the time needs a quick bit of mental arithmetic.
It's not very nice outside, cold and damp. I will stick to my original intention of hunkering down and getting on with my knitting. I foolishly decided that I would knit cushion covers as Christmas presents. I'm doing the cable/Arran type of thing and so I have to concentrate a bit more on the pattern and is not as quick to finish as I would like. These are also a few glaring (well, to me anyway) mistakes here and there but most of them I didn't notice until I was well past them. A perfectionist would have unpicked and re-knitted them. I am not that person.
What I have done is scale down the number of people who will be getting cushion covers. Most people will be getting a home made cake in a tin - always supposing I can track down some attractive tins that look expensive but actually aren't. I may also make some Clementine and Cointreau marmalade. That went down very well last year.
I've been watching Breakfast on BBC1 and they are doing a piece on bell ringers. It took me right back to my ringing days. I never achieved a peal, I didn't think I had the physical and mental strength to concentrate that hard for 3 hours. I did manage a few quarter peals though, 3/4 of an hour was quite long enough.
Well, having proved that I can witter on about absolutely nothing at all I'll leave you to whatever exciting things you have planned.
THOUGHT FOR SUNDAY
Lord, please keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth.I believe that friends are quiet angels

I wasn't sleeping Monna, I was reading, I usually read in bed but I was laughing too much to stay there.Chin up, Titus out.0

Love your thought for today monna!
The sun is shining here but mighty cold and that wind would cut you in two but at least it isn't raining.
You're doing well Bertha, there's no shame in asking for help. The important thing is that your friends are helping you.0 -
I wasn't sleeping either Monna.
See the Daily thread for details.
Last nights/early hours surfing involved researching Japan and it's islands. Somewhere I wouldn't mind going tbh but it will never happen.'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -
You can tell that I'm not doing anything useful today by the number of posts I am managing to cram in.
I have enjoyed the service at the cenotaph this morning. I am a sucker for brass bands and servicemen marching as one, looking as though they are a clockwork toy..
I am touchingly proud of my country. I think it is a lot to do with living through the war, although I was young we were brought up in an atmosphere of patriotism. Indeed, our elders never let us forget that we faced the daily threat of sudden death or invasion all alone, until the Americans decided to come and win the war for us. Again.:mad
Anyway, my friend reckons that if I was upended they would find, " MADE IN ENGLAND" stamped on my bottom.
Now I'm off to cook my chicken breast wrapped in bacon and some roast veggies for lunch.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Thought I’d enthrall you all with my morning (no snoozing in the back!!)
Woke to find friend had left us a massive Cod he Caught first thing, then another friend popped a brace of pheasant in - love this time of year with all this free food
We popped into town, quick raid on M&S to source new boots for Hubby, found some decent ones, but they had a massive scratch up the side so have ordered some.
Legged it to Main church just in time to see some of my colleagues marching in for the service, very smart in their ‘No1’s’.
We then popped into the pub for a snifter before coming home. I am now in the process of making 3 lots of fudge, 2 to give in exchange for fish and foul and 1 lot to take to work.
Will spend an hour with Nigel Slater this afternoon (Christmas Chronicles) Whilst Hubby snoozes on the sofa.
Dinner is pan fried cod with Peas a la Francais as I have Lettuce that needs using up and will do a few Herby roasted potatoes for himself too.Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!
£300/£1300 -
I couldn't get to sleep for ages last night, and eventually woke this morning at 9.50, and church was at 10.30. Panic stations! Dear OH took me in the car and dropped me off, and came back for his breakfast and to watch the Cenotaph service.
The island does sound lovely. I haven't been there since, ooh, must be about 1961, on a Sunday School outing from Gosport.0 -
Wind gusting round the house that seems to be coming right from the arctic. Absolute murder outside and just as bad in the bathroom. I have terminal heartburn and can't eat a thing. Whine whine whine. I just want to curl up in bed with a boiling hot water bottle, but am waiting on sainsbugs bringing me yet more food that I canny eat... O happyday :mad:0

Afternoon all. I decided to accompany DH on the Ride of Respect to the war memorial on Southsea common this morning. Fantastic turnout of trikes, bikes and scooters and so lovely to see so many youngsters among them. The last post was so beautifully played I cried. The wind was NW and icy - I froze in spite of leathers so DH drove us to our sailing club for something to eat and wee dram to warm me up!
Back home now - fire lit and deciding what to have for tea.
Have a good evening all xSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
