burtha I've been craving chips and gravy throughout the pandemic. We have an award winning chip shop nearby which was closed during lockdown then online orders to collect which meant long queues outside with many not wearing masks they were still manditory. When it opened a few years ago I got rid of my chip fryer it was a nightmare to clean so any chips came from the shop. I became quite addicted to gravy with chips and their gravy was proper gravy not from a mix.People have longed for foreign hoidays while I've been dreaming of chips and gravy! It sounds as though you and your frog are having a wonderful break away from the everyday. Much needed with the pressures of your job.I've been meaning to say well done on your run around the British Isles to visit us fencers. You couldn't visit us in reality but you clocked up al those miles. I wish I had some of your energy I used to love running but that ship has sailed now though I have many happy memories.Your break away has reminded me of the only tiime my mother decided to take us on hoiday in the early sixties. She was desperate for a break my dad was working long hours as a chef. We had lots of days out over the years but she convinced her much younger sister my favourite auntie who was only 21 when I was born and seemed much younger than mum and the aunts and uncles to take her 2 children along with us tWales. She'd seen an ad in the Liverpool Echo luxury break in wonderful Welsh countryside, We were very excited and packed out little cases with sensible outdoor clothes, her daughter packed hers with party dresses convinced there would be parties. The big day arrived and we set off early to catch the train to Liverpool then on to the underground train under the river Mersey heading for Wales .We arrived at a very quiet small station eventually which seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. Mum asked if there was a bus to the caravan site and was told no you'll have to walk and we were pointed in the right direction.Mum asked how far it was to the luxury caravan site and he said I dunno but there's a couple of caravans down the road they might know. We'd been walking for hours and my much younger sisters were getting tearful and stroppy. We came to a field with overgrown grass and two rusty caravans , A woman was feeding hens. Auntie called asking where the caravan site was and she said this be it.Half the day was gone so Auntie said we'll never get home today lets stay here tonight and sort things out in the morning . We were shown into one of the caravans a scruffy wreck. Mum said this has to be a mistake we'll have to put up with it tonight and sort it out in the morning but with no promised guests restaurant or shops what are we going to eat?The non too clean woman said I can do a meal. She brought dishes of dubious looking mince, grey mash and watery gravy.Mum asked where the toilets were and the reply was what toilets? You're in the country now not back in a town, She pointed to two buckets under the sink. White enamel one is for when you go to fetch water and the grey one is the toilet there's a tap up the road.I was sent to fetch water and up the road proved to be a very long wak there and back after strruggling with a rusty old tap.I struggled back with the bucket and said I'm not doing that again I could have been murdered out there and I'm not going to use the " Toilet " either,Mum was showing the woman the ad and demanding her money back and my cousin was wanting to change in to one of her party frocks Aunitiel losing her temper told her to leave the frocks in the case which propted a storm of kicking and screaming. i think only my sisters had any sleep. I was sent for water again in the morning refusing to dispose of the contents of the toilet. We left a few hours later with Auntie threatening to report the fraud to the police. So we set off on the long walk back to the raiway station. It was going dark when we got home , I appreciated having taps and a toilet. It had been like something from Dickens.A couple of days later mum set off for Liverpool and the Liverpool Echo offices threatening to sue for publishing false infomation,I vowed never to go near anytthing mentioning luxury caravan sites .As a Brownie leader I point blank refused to accompany the pack to anywhere involving caravans and we started going to one of Girl Guide owned Hostels at Cartmel instead.Youngest dd loves camper vans especially the old VW ones in pastel pinks and blues, I found some lovely cotton fabric online with those VW ones and made her bedding , cushions and curtains. They were the first thing she packed when she went to shield with her boyfriend and the cats and installed them in the spare bedroom.Apologies for the typos in my post the other day. I edited that post three times as I began to notice them then noticed a few more by then I'd lost the will to go on.After the Wales debacle Mum and Auntie coined the phrase " Never believe what you you read in the Echo" I use it myself now as it's far worse for false info. It was moved from Liverpool to Manchester years ago, None of the "Journalists" know anything about the very big Liverpool city region which stretches all the way to Lancashire. It's full of ads and shock attention grabbing headlines about nothing at all.I do regret not asking mum if she got her money back but never thought of it in the following years so it's a story without an end.Hope every one is able to enjoy a few days over the long bank holidays. I'm struggling to remember what day it is.This is the first laptop not to have both day and date on the bottom of the screen. I was convinced today was Sunday but checked the daily thread and discovered it's Saturday.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Good morning. I'm a bit of noob to this forum, and have been lurking on this particular thread as I try to work out what its all about as I wouldn't want to stick my oar in when not required
I love a good natter but I wouldn't know where to start here. So I'll continue to keep my oar well out the way and enjoy your posts for a few days more.8 -
Hello fencers, long time no see, it's lovely to see lots of you back and talking nonsense posting 🤣
The building work we were having done has finally been finished after being started in Oct, it was getting me down not having it done and dusted. I'm a "need it finished before it starts" kind of person " Anyway I'm ready now to help paint the fence ( virtually mind ) if that's still going ahead. I would like my bit to be a Wedgewood blue. Actually I need to do my own painting of my bedroom in RL but haven't the energy to start and keep finding excuses not to do it 😕 Perhaps someone kind would like to help with that, please, pretty please ? I've got the paint and the brushes at the ready 🙏
Polly Sorry I've been MIA but I've been travelling with my Doctor 😊 Oh I wish !! We had a caravan experience like that in Torquay one year when I was about 7. We had made the long journey from Wales and it was dark by the time we arrived so it was too late to go anywhere else. There was a toilet but it was very shabby van and it had a wood burner of sorts in the middle of it. Dad tripped on the uneven flooring in the middle of the night and went head long into the metal flue pipe and ended up black as the road and covered with soot, along with most of our belongings 😱 That put the tin hat on things and Mum was already very displeased but mostly annoyed with him for being so clumsy. He got it both barrels 😡 Needless to say we didn't stay long ! Best wishes Amy 🧡
Ming I hope the RV has his bike back and you can get some time to plot away enjoy yourself in peace 😂
Burtha enjoy your break. Oh and BTW I didn't get the waft from the chip shop. Could you please try again ?
Zola Hi !! don't worry about what to say they are as mad as a box of frogs on here 🤣 and I say that in the nicest possible way.
Take care all

You must be so relieved nan that the builders have finally departed it seems to have gone on forever. I love Wedgewood blue and al the nice blues hence my kette lid matching paint search It got me the perfect pale blue and gave alt the trades in the trade centre a good laugh when I fished the lid of the kettle out of my bag.Later I bought some flat wooden lolly ice sticks and painted one half with that Le Creuset Coastal Blue from the kettle I forgot to put the whistle on and butned black/It seemed more professional than a kettle lid when going to trade centres.I wonder how many of those caravan sites were so appalling back in the day. I knew of others who had similar experiences years ago. i do wish I'd asked my mum the outcome but it's too late now.It was like something from the dark ages .The woman said other people thought the caravans were lovely but I've never been so glad to get on a train in my life.Speaking of Doctors did you ever get to watch Terry Pratchetts Good Omens with my doctor David Tennant and Michael Sheen ? I have it on DVD and it;s an absolute scream. I was choking laughing David Tennant was a very strange angel mad as a box of Frogs .Michael Sheen dapper and dignified as they set out to save the worldThey spent last year in Scotland filming part two and finished recently I'm waiting not very patiently for the big river site to release the new dvd. It's funny to think how we originally thought Our Doctor was the same Dr and argued over him. If you hadn't started sitting on a suitcase near the fence I would never have known you were the girl who waited for a different Dr.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Thanks for the replies.
Very briefly, I am a 29 year old South African gal, very much into IT, and love having discussions between an Intel i5-12400 and a AMD Ryzen 5-5600G, among other boring techie things.
As a consequence I don't have a huge amount of friends because whenever I visit their homes, one of the first things I look for is the make/model/OS of their hardware!
But apart from that I love a good chat about all sorts of random general things. But just don't mention what I think about Windows 11(long time posters on here are probably thinking "Hello, she sounds like trouble, best ignore her and she'll go away", lol)

i'd tripped manage to steady myself but both laptop and water carried o down the stairs Landing on the hard floor in the hallway, The laptop seemed intact the glass not.but when I sat down to examine it there wasn't a mark on it but the back was very wet.I stood it on a stack of microfibre dusters overnight hoping that may help absorb the moisture but no joy. Youngests boyfriend works in Tech and opened it up fiddled about then declared it well and truly unusable.I ordered this one. When it arrived i noticed that it was to be updated free in a while to Windows.11 I'd managed to stay on the original W7 for years as dds bf took each new laptop to W7 until it was no longer possible and it had to be W10 I wasn't keen on W10 so have no idea how W11 will go.I'm probably the most basic of users.no idea how to post a link and many other things. Apps are alien to me as is using word and other things,DDs bf has been kind and patient but his work is supporting the introduction of a new fully functional NHS system more important than my dilemmas. You don't sound like trouble to me and we'll be glad to see you here. The thread already has Trouble alive and living in Scotland .She can be very nice but sometimes seems to be taken over by weird alter egos and then she's trouble.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Another technophobe here. I had to ask DH how to clear my cookies because I had forgotten how to do it, again, he must have the patience of a saint as I'm very forgetful. The only cookies I knew of should be dipped in tea 😂 I don't even like using the phone it makes me anxious so I think Zola maybe an asset helping with our tech issues. She can talk tech and we'll sip tea/coffee ☕ and nod knowingly, there everyone can be happy !
I never got round to watching Good omens either and I really should support the local boy Mikey Sheen. There doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to watch everything that I want would like to and get some housework done in between GP surgery appointments and hospital visits with DH. Perhaps I could go to bed earlier and get up earlier ? Naw not in my nature, I'm a night owl whooo 🦉 loves her sleep and perchance to dream of someone dishy as Monna stole kept safe the hot waiter. BTW anyone seen Monna ? I hope she's ok.
