nm. I am so disappointed for you. Just tell yourself that the house you are meant to have is not ready for you yet. It will happen, and it will be the right house.

As for trying to get somewhere by public transport.....................!

Even when I knew when I wanted to go and where, the route finder that I found online would have had me going on a bus, a train, a ferry, 3 more trains and another bus. I would have got there just after the time I must leave to come back again.

In the end I went to the local train station and lovely man there worked it all out for me and printed it all, then sold me the ticket that would take me there and back again.

  • NM Both Royal Mail and The Post Office have a free online postcode checker .. You just need the address . Have you thought of looking at non agency rentals ? Smaller landlords often advertise property . It makes a big difference regarding cost . It will be in local newspapers .

Hope all is well with you Monna . I'm off to bed . Sweet dreams .

There but for fortune go you and I.
  • Polly you need the address for a post code. What you get is, 3 bed house to let, the name of the street or perhaps only the area. You get the address when you have made the appointment. You need to know how to get there and the time before you actually make the appointment otherwise you cause someone a lot of annoyance when you find out there is only a bus every couple of hours so you need to change the appointment.

Monna is right a nice man to sort it all out for you is much nicer. In my case it was a nice women in a bus station in Manchester that sorted my journey to Wythenshawe Hospital.

Not paying for about six local papers on the off chance. Especially as I would have to travel to them all to get one.

Ah burtha. I had forgotten the joys of being an unpaid chauffeur to my teenagers.
I used to fantasize about the day they would be transporting themselves without realising that then I would be sitting up till all hours waiting for them to get home safely. It never ends does it?

And also if men had babies...and men would soon come up with a more effective, less uncomfortable method of mammograms if it were their bits being squeezed between two metal plates! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

To be fair, there's no reason why women can't come up with a better solution to mammograms. It's not as if only men are scientists.

NM thats an awful lot of money to be paying letting agents. The most I have paid in fees is £500 and the least £60.

I wonder if my stategy might help you the timing right? If I have to get the bus, and I realise I dont go too far as I have to fit appointments in around school times, I make the appointment at the very lastest I can to make it fit. This give me time for hiccups. So in your case if you know it's likely to be a 2 hour travel time, book an appointment for 3 and half hours giving you 90 mins to play with.just an example.

Letting agents, for all their stroppy gusto (and I've met a lot like that) they work for the landlord and you are a customer. They aren't anything authoritative like a lot of them crack on. I get it NM, you're at the mercy of fate/luck/money/decent working practices and it's stressful but you do have choice and ifthe agent is shoddy and rip off with their costs then these are the people (unless the LL manages the property themselves) that will be visiting you in your home, writing reports on you and in control of getting issues fixed well and in a timely fashion. Walk away from shoddiness, poor customer service and wholier than thou in attitude because it won't be worth it down the line.

May you find a space that is home soon NM. Don't be worrying about upsetting the agents it's water off a ducks back to them. You changing an appointment is small fry to what I reckon they deal with day to day. Feel for you. Got the t-shirt.

So many errors in that post. I do miss clacking on a keyboard. Sorry.
  • fuddle I have exactly the same restraints as you because I need to be back to cook dinner for 4pm. If he eats it any later he cannot sleep. He needs to be asleep by 7pm. I will certainly not have time to kick my heels for 90 mins.

Bolton is actually a collection of small towns so distances travelled by a bus is great. The worst agent has 90% of the lettings. They are a big national.

I'm thinking one of the problems is they seem to let the present tenant dictate the terms of viewing. I guess they have to fit in with their jobs to be in. I do wonder if they have to pay an extra fee to have the agent there so the LL won't pay it.

The most common answer I get when I call for an appointment is we don't have a key.

I'm not stressed, I'm not upset. I am just answering where people are coming to conclusions that aren't true. I'm not complaining and the incident in the bus station was ridiculous. It says information and tickets over the office I went to. I asked for information and his reaction was to pick up the phone and call the manager to throw me out as if I had threatened him. I thought everyone would laugh. Silly man.

NM no LL or agent can be in the property without the current tenant being there. It's safe guarding the tenant in terms of damage, their deposit and their agreement.

We're just trying to offer support really. I know whats its like, that's all. x
