A perfectly strange flower pot arrived on my back lawn and a row of pelargoniums standing on a low wall outside my front door were neatly swept off. They have detached themselves from their pots and are now lying , upside down, and looking uncomfortable and vulnerable on the earth beneath. I must rescue them.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Poor things! Was the strange flower pot the murderer? 😯
We had a few things rattling around the garden, but no damage. The care home up the road just got their electricity back on today!2025 Fashion on the ration

Grey, wet, windy and thoroughly miserable day here. I've been wet for most of the day despite picking my moments. Massive elephant to be eaten - trying to move back into my house after Christmas (not sure exactly what date mum had in mind but hope to be sleeping there from January 2nd, providing she wants me to spend New Years with her).
It took me a week to move in here and lots of stuff came later when people could bring stuff and were allowed to. I also have a large bookcase, fridge-freezer, large analogue only tv and a giant footstool, acquired when DS2 moved in with his gf and they merged possessions - so I will need a man and van at some points. In theory all the major garden purchases are mine too (polytunnel etc, but suspect mum may renege on that - she said I could take on the cleaner's duties but she wouldn't pay me, but garden stuff could be taken back to mine0.
Anyway the priority is to make my house safe and habitable, for my to be there. Stairs are still difficult and I won't be able to get in and out of the bath but I'm committed to the move and quite excited (but also slightly terrified). Mum is insisting she can look after herself (it must be 10 years since she did any shopping and probably 8 or 9 since she did any serious cleaning) but I'll sort things out as best I can. Trying to get her to take the phone out into the garden with her.
So my days have been an exciting whirlwind of clearing rubbish, various categories of recycling, paper and card, sweeping and sorting with occasional bits of cleaning (DS3 is going to pay for cleaners but we're not sure when we should call them in). This week the dishwasher and washing machine have been working all week and I've had gentle discussions with DS3 and Beloved about decluttering some of their things (DS3 has recently bought new underpants and socks so all the old underpants are for the worst bits of the floor - wet it rub it and bin straight away). They had a problem with bathroom and under the sink leaks (hole in the kitchen ceiling which we left to dry out properly) then the drains (their fault in January and February 2020, problem outside in the backs this year - united utilities problem but stuff backing up into our yard.
Today I've surpassed my self in the excitement stakes. Returned 2 library books then continued to the recycling point with a huge bag of glass jars and then to the charity shop with a bag of DS3's clothes and a bag of bubble wrap. Got very wet several times despite picking my moments to go outside and struggled to make the trolley go in a straight line. The recycle point had 2 bins for drinks cans so went back to the house, sorted through about 8 sacks separating plastic bottles from cans and finally worked my way through the full to the brim bin (tipped the last 1/3 out onto the ground when I couldn't reach down any further.
This netted me 3 sacks of cans which were taken to the recycle point and made room for a further 1 1/2 sacks of plastic bottles in the brown bin. The rest is still in sacks but hoping to catch up in a week or two. Enormous quantities of black bags went out last week. I also have a growing by the day pile for when we have a skip. Two of the neighbours already had broken items out in the backs so I've been moving things from the yard to the backs (no reason for anyone to come down to our end so not in anyone's way and makes it easier for me to chop back greenery).
Yesterday I took 2 bags of sheets and pillowcases back home. I had a few spaces on the cube shelves in my room (currently being used by DS3) and medicines (prescription and OTC) and today I took a throw, some t-shirts, a dress, warm trousers and a light jumper. I can see most of the floor in the bathroom, front room and my bedroom and a significant amount in Beloved's room and the kitchen. I have decided that if necessary I will be the one sleeping downstairs on a temporary bed (means I can do things downstairs if they are both asleep upstairs) but have discussed with Beloved how to get DS3 back in her room (she has problems getting to sleep).
