I am about to cook my first proper meal in ages; a spicy curry is desired/required. Wish me luck'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

We spent the morning doing a small repair for our tenant, my God she spends a lot of money. Everything in the house is brand new, there are still boxes everywhere. She spent over £1000 decorating her DD's bedroom and even more on the lounge. And she is spending money on the wedding of the century, to which we have been invited! I'm glad he ex husband is paying the rent.
She was taking a nearly new Dyson to the tip as she's bought a miele, she was also binnng a Wii fit, still boxed, used twice and now she's bored with it.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
MMF007 Rosemary is so easy to grow. They just grow from it little twig. I had two in my garden about 15 years ago. From a tiny twig they grow to a sizable bush so you are always cutting it back. They have the most lovely blue flowers on them in the summer so you can grow it in pots or in a shrubbery. I have always grown it among the flowers or shrubs.
If you live anywhere near me and we can meet I can bring you a few cuttings as there is a big bush in our communal garden.
Hester to see all that money wasted. Especially when without letting your house to her, you would struggle to replace things like vacuum cleaners. They should be going to people who could not afford them not the tip.0 -
Hester I bet if your tenant didn't spend so extravagantly on stupid things she would be able to afford to buy a house instead of renting. One life - your life - live it!0

Both my tenant and her husband to be do a lot of work cash in hand, so they will never get a mortgage, I think they will always rent.
We are going back this morning to finish the repair and I need to speak to them about the decking, it's wrecked as it's been under plastic for months and is soaking wet. It will need replacing before next summer.Chin up, Titus out.0 -

No but private renting is not a stable way to live Mar. Even with a contract a tenant can be out on their ear in only 2 months for any reason or whim. Social housing is so difficult to get now too. Do I want a mortgage? Hell no but the worry of finding money for a very low mortgage - a third of my monthly rent - is far less a worry of being out on my ear. Mar private renting, for a tenant, is expensive, worrisome and ruddy awful.0

I don't think being in social housing is any better. Our rent is barely any less but we are responsible for about 90% of the repairs so we do without because there is not way I can afford them. Most of the last 4 years I have had to feed and clothe us both on less than £8,000 a year. There is nothing left after absolute necessities. DS was not allowed to be a joint tenant so he has no security. I think if I die outside of the property they can throw him out before my body is cold. Otherwise he will get until my body leaves the flat. You still have the same 6 month contract. This government brought it in a couple of years ago. I think they can also do the two months thing as well.
I was not allowed to look at one word of my contract or I would have refused it because of the repairs. Now that DS has a job I may be able to save a few hundred of the repairs that are needed but if they find out I have saved anything they will take my housing benefit away. :wall:0 -
Yep, life is different now and I've been very lucky, I know. I've been in this house almost 30 years, and the one before this for 10 years. My HA is terrific, great to deal with and never any problems.0
