Never mind the slow cooked broccoli I laughed at the red wind! Sory camalot I know your finger slipped but it probably tastes worse than the broccoli.0

I love lamb and we eat as much of it as we can afford, so from now on its bits of turnip and carrot and tatties going in it. No onions because they send my heartburn into orbit. Thanks ladies0

Ha nursemaggie, red wind is indeed rare!0

Ooh Floss, herb jellies sound amazing. I love rosemary but rarely buy it because I would never use a full bunch. Any pointers to a good recipe, please?
Mardatha, Not surprised there was red wind with all that overcooked broccoli in yer slow cooker :rotfl:

Morning all,
:rotfl: Red wind. Mar you can also use parsnips, not sure if they've been mentioned. A spash of balsamic or red wind vinegar can also be nice.
Whoever mentioned rosemary--it goes beautifully with potatoes, some chicken recipes and of course lamb. It also dries well if you have extra you can't use.
Well. This was a long week. Teaching starts next week so it has been full steam with meeting students and preparations. I think I'm ready. I think. OH already has his first cold of the year and I'm hoping to avoid it. I spent three hours on the train platform earlier this week. Fortunately it was a test run and I didn't have anything scheduled early. It was due to a signal failure but it has me worried about next week. OH may drive us both into work on the days when I have a 9 am start for that first week. I know it is probably rare and he hasn't had any problems but my stomach sings to my knees every time I think of being late for a first lecture.
A few errands today, collecting new specs (very excited--two new pairs as they were in an offer, one pair red and one black I think. My eyesight is actually improving with age) and then into town for some bits and bobs. One of which is some warm shoes for commuting. My feet nearly froze standing on the platform so I'll take my nice shoes into work and just change once I'm there. Hopefully it will save wear and tear on the nice ones. Chores and a shop tomorrow as we haven't managed one this week. The menus are prepped with lots of excuses to use my food flask. It seems to work well. I may need to heat the food slightly hotter/warm the flask slightly longer as it is often hot but not quite piping. I think we have tuna and pasta with broccoli for tea tonight--we'll try not to overcook it :rotfl::rotfl:
In other news, work have issued me with a tablet. I can't wait to see what hilarity ensues on my writing!
Good news about FIL--he seems fit and happy as ever, if not more so as he has been drinking more water. He seems to tolerate the chemo pills well although he is anxious about the intravenous. I hope he doesn't react badly to that either. I hope his biggest problem will be boredom. He isn't a sit in a chair type of person.
Hugs to all who need them.xx0 -
Almost forgot Mar--I often use leeks rather than onions in stews. They have a similar but milder flavour and don't have some of the gastric effects.0

MMF007 i use either River Cottage or the Cottage Smallholder recipes, both work well and use either crab or cooking apples.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Thanks floss, I'll look those up.
I just bought a crispy duck, with the pancakes and sauce. I fancied a change, so have got an orange and an apple to go in the pancakes, rather than cucumber and spring onion (not that keen on cucumber). I shall make my fave sandwich filling using some of the apple, crumbly cheese and a few snippets of spring onion. Yum!
Whizzed in to town to pay in some chqs, then DH dropped me at the Doctors' for flu jab. I took a book, as this is the first clinic in our area so expected it to be Q'ing out of the door. Got there, was ushered straight in, jab, out - took less than 2 mins!
The walk home took about 15 mins, up a steep hill, so that did me good too!
Actually, i can really feel the weight loss now. I was definitely quicker getting home, and my legs weren't aching at any point.
Weight is creeping off but i don't want to eat any less to speed it up cos I think I'd struggle to stick to a stricter regime. I'd rather do it slowly and keep it off. Plus a slow weight loss means i am learning and sticking to good eating habits that I shall be able to slightly adapt for 'maintenance' of my healthy weight when i get there! That is the plan, anywayI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0
