planning sounds fun monna , maybe do the actual doing in very small stages that way you won't get sick of it .
this year for me will be wait and see with the garden , after last year's conservatory build and garden make over , I need to see what's alive still and what else to add in , I was impressed at 2 rescued climbers that I had suck in tubs and moved so many times till I was able to plant them . they both grew massive amounts , amazing what a bit of stability and care can do
right , coffee finished , dog walk in the sleet now and run later.

What a to do I had this afternoon. I went to see my Dad, he's in our bubble, but coming out of the square where he lives was a bit of a nightmare! The snow was still coming down, but further up the hill it had been melting, so there was a lot of water too, and it took me four tries to get the car out onto the 'main' side road. The car was sliding all over the place and I was glad there were no other cars around to slide into! Usually I can get out ok in heavy snow, but this was something totally different.2025 Fashion on the ration

MrsCD , your afternoon sounds like my morning , I seam to be the only person moving on the estate , so although I dug the drive out ,the roads are compacted snow / ice , fun .

MrsCD, I learned to drive over snow and ice in the bad winter of 1962/3. My first test was taken with the snow piled up so high at the sides of the roads that you couldn't see round corners. I remember being on the bus one day when it was overtaken by a bubble car that slid across the road and completely disappeared into a snow drift. I'm quite glad that I've given up driving now.
You take care burtha.

Monna thanks for your thought for the day.I remember 62/63 too, but I was still in school then and had to follow the snow "runs", when both sides were piled up higher than me, only to get there and to be sent home again for about 6 weeks running as there was no heating ( no coal delivery) and the outside toilets were frozen. Oh they were the "good" old daysFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently8

I don't remember the winter of 62/63 as I was born in 62 but there are photos of me, brother and Mum stoood on the frozen Thames. Must have been thick ice as my DM didn't like water, couldn't swim and was generally terrified of everything!8

Sending gentle hugs, Doveling. So sorry for your loss.8

I am a result of that winter! Born December 1963. The sea froze at home too - i've seen pictures.
Been applying for jobs that appeal but which i have little chance of getting. Had a 'you've not been successful' letter yesterday but i was chuffed as it was following a process i'd not done before, that i put minimal effort into and my selection process results (they give you them straight away) were not too shabby! Currently applying for one at Oxford University- i can't see them employing someone with a degree from Birmingham Poly (plus other qualifications, but still) but it's all good practice. Just the fact that me, with my background (educationally and socially and at my advanced age) could even contemplate applying to Oxford is amazing and hilarious in equal measure (no good lucks, please, i won't stand a prayer!).
Otherwise, we've a quiet day planned (haven't we all!). OH has one of his 'heads' so is going back to bed, I am going to do a bit of work and then hopefully a walk at some point.I wanna be in the room where it happens9 -
Oh dear, you all make me feel very old. (I love it actually) To think that you were all babes in arms when I was struggling to school every day and teaching in a classroom with 3 outside walls and a temperature of 40°F when the coke lorry couldn't get through, the outside toilets were frozen and a chain of boys stretched across the playground passing buckets of hot water from the kitchen to try to keep them flushed. Our nice but useless headmaster thought that someone was giving him brownie points for not closing the school.
So much for arctic winters.
VJs, Oxford would be lucky to get you!
I have to say that when I repeat myself and your eyes glaze over as you think, "We've heard all this before," it's just too bad. I make no apology. It comes to us all and your time might be just around the corner.
