burtha, I'd absolutely love to see you. Can you swim after the run? I live on the Isle of Wight.
You are all very kind. You have made an old person very happy.
I'll give some consideration to the Thought for Today. I've plenty more!I believe that friends are quiet angels

Apologies to Mrs CD,Ming and greenbee. I was replying to monna and missed your posts. It's lovely to read of voices and often family history being preserved for the future. I have some of my mums handwritten cook books and can vaguely recall her and my dads voices. Both were softly spoken. I've lots of memories of family history as told by some of my aunts but things I wonder about but will never know.I did have a sudden recollection of something I posted about a while back. Either here or maybe an earlier tougher thread. It was this little bookworm at the age of four. My family bought books for Christmas and Birthdays but couldn't afford a constant supply in the post war years.Mum was an avid reader and used the local library.and I'd go with her as she chose her latest Miss Read and other books. i wanted a library ticket more than anything in the world. The librarian told me I had wait until I was five. I couldn't see over the high counter but when I was supposed to be playing out I was heading to the library. I wore the poor woman down until I got my ticket. Then began I need more tickets please. I think se was releived when I reached the magic five. That library wasn't the one mum went to when we lived in the prefab it was where I found myself at the street party. Seems mum and dad moved very quickly after my brother died so another piece in the jigsaw. The ability to connect and also preserve memories has been a blessing to many especially now. The long series of Cliffhaven books I finished last year brought home to me just how hard it must have been for those on the home front like my mum and dad and their siblings with many in the royal navy escorting the food convoys with Uboats Enemy planes and mines waiting to blast them to kingdome come. Then there were thiose in Burma and other faraway places. It must have been a long wait between letters arriving.if they made to the UK.My mum always kept diaries but we respected her privacy knowing she kept things to herself.I@ve kept dairies since school but they evolved more into tracking medical stuff etc for the children and a garden diary.Your posts have made me think so thank you..pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

burtha said:how's everyone's lazy Sunday going . mine coffee and cookery book for now , it's bright but crisp outside xWe rarely get snow burtha too close to the Irish Sea but the snow arrived Friday evening. It had been frost and ice most of the week so the snow did lift the temperature a little.Today is some brightness in the sky but very cold.I took myself back to bed for a while earlier with a couple of hot water bottles and a brew. it reminded me of one of the books I used to read to the younger ones by Allan and Janet Ahlberg Bye,Bye ,Baby. We had all the books but youngest would ask for that often. I found it a bit upsetting , a baby living alone changing his own nappy and tucking himself into bed at night. Then setting out to look for a mummy. The mog books were very popular but youngest loved the baby book.I think the virtual visits are a great idea. If you set of from the town centre you're looking at 128.1 miles. However that's via the M6 but you will pass the Yorkshire dales on your way. That's from DD1 who also does the Great North Run and bags Munros. I supect that's mileage by car,I think a Wonder woman would be very apt. I do think you are a super hero.It does conjure up memories of dd1 who had that outfit launching herself off the back of the sofa convinced she could fly! It was a long time before she gave that up.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

It seems the monna visit will be burthas' greatest chalenge unless Mar knits her an under the radar boat. That needs to be undertaken in the style of Chariots of Fire with the theme music blaring out. We can all do the virtual cheering if we don't nod off.Speaking of monna. Please stop describing yourself as old. You are young in heart with a kind soul and still have all your marbles. Some of us are a bit creaky in the joints but in my head I'm sixteen..I have lots of memories mainly good over the years since then . The sixties and onwards saw so much change in many ways and I feel lucky to have been involved in so many things over the decades..I look forward to your thoughts for the day when you're ready with your pearls of wisdom or off the wall comments.Thank you everyone for your comments. I was doubtful this old fence would come back to life once more. It has and as a bonus it's not the weather to slap the paint on our bits of fence. So we'll leave that until Spring has sprung.pollyxps apologies for any typos I seem to have caught up though. It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Polly, you have the happy knack of making someone feel good about themselves. In my head I'm about 35 years old, 5ft 6ins tall, legs up to my armpits and beyond beautiful. Reality, however, bashes me about the head and says, "Who DO you think you're kidding? "
Now, how about me posting a Thought on this thread every morning, without the obligation of saying anything else. I tend to get carried away and spend far too much time messing about on my accursed tablet, to the detriment of my worthy household tasks or reading in bed until the morning is nearly over.
Anyway, you'd have to put up with seeing various thoughts that I've already posted, my record keeping is chaotic to put it kindly.
It would have the added bonus of keeping this thread on the front page.

I've just found I live almost on Dere St. So if any Fencers want to run up here, start at York and head north in a straight line9

It's who you are that matters monna not outward show. I'll look forrward to a daily thought. I may even have forgotten ones I have seen in the past- well it worked with the books. Of course you don't need to do lots of posts. heaven forfend we would tear you away from your beloved Stepford wife obsession with your daily housework. Anyone know where the rotfl emoji went?10 or perhaps 15 years ago I'd have taken you up on that challenge Mar. I could have stopped off for a break in Yorkshire on the way for some physio, a long lie down and a Yorkshire brew . Pity it's lockdown I could have called in at Betty's on the way.Have you ever tried knitting a helicopter? Now if I had acess to a Eurofighter Typhoon I could be there and back for tea. However plane would probably be diverted to see off aircraft approaching the Uk which is their main role. I may never be seen again.Keep your sighs of relief silent. It's not funnypollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
