Hello. A bit of a day here!
Work was busy. Out front which I much prefer. One staff down off sick.
Went to see my mother. Did not get a nice welcome. Shouted at. Called uncaring (amongst other stuff) I left before more was said. Not nice. It’s never been a good relationship and I knew it would be something I would struggle with when I came back from overseas.
Phoned niece & sister who know what’s what.
Then just got out shower and DD2 called to say someone had fallen outside work and wanted my advice, do you want me to come in? Yes. So I’d to quickly dress & go out with wet hair & assess this elderly woman ! Helped her out to her car once I established she was okay to drive!
DD2...if you hang on 30 minutes you can drive me home!
Chips for tea accompanied by a moan!
Long chat to friend.
Watched strictly but now in bed.
Tomorrow is indeed another day!0 -
Some lazy weekend pleasures.
1 I was a bit lazy first thing watching a couple of episodes of star trek original, and laughing at the actors who were quite clearly trying not to laugh at the whole thing.
2 DH carried on with the kitchen, I couldn't help with the electrics so......
3 I did a bit of a move / death stare on some books, working on I have loads to read and am I ever likely to read them again would I take it with me if I moved, would I want it left if I shuffled, and voila 25 off to a CS and 10 bagged up to be off to the in laws. Still a lot left thou.
4 Splurged on one of the best Chinese takeaways. Delicious.
5 The squirrel seems to be rallying with food.0 -
Sorry to hear about your mum being difficult, MHags. It is a difficult relationship here too, though I wish it wasn't. Fuelled in recent years by increasing amounts of alcohol, sadly. (Hence why I stopped drinking over 20 years ago).
Pleasures for today (Saturday).
1) Up early to take sheep to the market with my brother. Which really just involved shouting instructions as he had to reverse up to the smallest pen in the world, with a trailer full of sheep.
2) Picked the last of the tomatoes off and cleared the greenhouse.
3) Hens haven't laid in weeks (months?) and we sadly lost a hen a few days ago. Went to clear their bedding where it leaks a little bit in the corner of the sleeping quarters - and found 4 eggs!
4) Got some housework done - kitchen, floors, microwave, washing, mountain of washing up.
5) Bigger son went to his new job at Halfords and enjoyed it.
6) Smaller son and I popped to Sainsburys.
7) Bigger son is at games night with my brother and brother in law - not home yet!
8) Watched Casualty plus the end of Gardeners World.0 -
Saturday pleasures,
A lie-in followed by leisurely breakfast.
There is a paddock on the way to the yard with several large oak trees in it, their colours at this time of year are just stunning.
Feeding apples and carrots to equine girlie & her pal, they really relish them with closed eyes and slurping noises.
Picked up a sack of potatoes and a large cabbage from the farm stall.
Late afternoon walk with small dog around the fields, so many different types of mushrooms around but I don’t dare, even with a reference book!
Chicken curry for tea, followed by a couple of episodes of the Detectorists.0 -
1. Work went ok. Worked with people who actually work. It was only for 5 hours and at double time so that helps.
2. Biscuits at work left over from the day before.
3. Watched some rugby on tv.
4. Made a pasta sauce with home grown tomatoes.
5. Went for a meal with friends. Food was good but service was awful. The manager came and spoke to us after we had paid and mentioned the service was bad and will ring DH next week.
Had good catch up with friends though.0 -
HWK substantially better today.
We're going for coffee later at one of the garden centres, something normal at long last!
There are ripe tomatoes in the greenhouse still, I shall go and pick in a little while.
Hot water bottles on cold nights followed by warm feet!
I can visit my grandpickles this week and have those longed for cuddles.0 -

1) sunny saturday - stripped bed, long walk with dogs, shopping with mum, washing out
2) lunch of pasta, ys asparagus, end of frozen broad beans with grated cheese
3) met dd2 at new tea shop half way home for her from work. 1940s style, lovely china, lovely music, lovely scone. thought of you mhags
4) just got back before the rain, washing dry enough to air inside, gbf picked me up for Turandot (live from The Met). Magical!
5) Met up with friend who recommended my lawyer so we had a catch-up and celebratory drink in interval 1 then another lovely chat interval 2 And for today, having missed church i can watch the rugby which is back onWe have a big choral evensong tonight so will go to that. Hello. Very dull and dismal here. Much rain and cool. Heating is on.
Workety work. Was fine, out front and not busy though kept myself busy enough. Happy to skip out at end though.
Home.
Haggis had a huuuge walk with son. I met another lovely chocolate lab when I came out of work.
I had a huuuge snoozette. Was reading and dozed off.
DD1 birthday gift sorted. She’d messaged me to say she was going to buy a replacement bike ( hers was nicked) so I transferred the money and she could use that for her birthday present. Though birthday not till next month.
DD2 had bought me skin softening glove thingys (filled with moisturiser) so I put them on and wow! Will definitely use them again. Probably helped with not washing my hands continually at work past few days as I’ve been out front and not cooking/food prep.
Had spicy mince & vegetable filled tortilla wraps for tea. With a meringue, cream and tinned peaches made by the boy child for pudding.0 -
Glad HWK is on the mend.
Lainey - more on mushrooms just now!
Pleasures for today (Sunday).
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Phone call from Croatia from mum who couldn't get the volume to work on videos on her phone (she's only recently had a smart phone). The last videos she took in Croatia were on a cine camera, half a century ago! (Including a family favourite showing dad swimming in the sea, then a cut away, then back to just water and a speedboat as though dad had been squashed! We used to wait for that bit as children.)
3) Hens OK and another egg!
4) Took bigger son to work and he had a good day, building bikes.
5) Got on with bits round the house - changed the bunkbeds, did lots of washing, started to get a bag together for the charity shop, cut last year's Christmas cards into gift tags.
6) Did lots of cooking, as the weather still appalling - and only 5 degrees now! Did savoury muffins in the morning then cinnamon buns in the afternoon. Then made a large chicken chow mein.
7) The mushrooms! On the way back from dropping bigger son at work, went round a roundabout and saw a massive fairy ring in the grass at the side. Parked up, walked over to take some photos. Walked back to the car and saw a large flat field mushroom in the side so I shall have that for breakfast tomorrow!0
