  • My five for today are;

    1) I weighed myself this morning and have lost 2lbs - not dieting just healthy eating and reducing the rubbish.

    2) I had a very productive morning sewing and finished another Christmas stocking.

    3) I baked a quiche and a carrot cake for an ex colleague coming to visit.

    4) We had a great blether and her visit made me realise how lucky I am to be retired.

    5) On a horrible, wet day like this it's great to be at home.

    Watching tv now xx

Belated birthday wishes BOP here's a trainset for you :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucm2WF-vcUQ
Heartily approve of the conversation round vaccinations. I lost out on an uncle because he died at 3 from measles. It can be a very nasty disease.
Back from Oban so here are a number from the last 3 days
    1) lovely drive over with colleague. we left after lunch on Monday so got to the hotel reasonably early
    2) had a walk round Oban then decided to eat at the hotel. 7:30 we realised the fire works were just about to start. We had just finished our dinner but still drinking wine - left hotel key and strict instructions not to clear our wine!
    3) fireworks lovely - lasted rather longer than their ill-fated 2011 ones! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6QtigLJD_4
    4) great 2 days workshopping. lovely walk to beach first day lunch time (we were at SAMS if anyone is familiar with Oban or UHI)
    5) fun meal at hotel - was a bit stepping back into the 70s. i had prawn cocktail, chicken in mushroom sauce, and profiteroles while White Heather music played in the background. decided not to ask for blue nun!
    6) rather wet and long drive back - we went wrong in Perth :-(
    7) cos i have Marie Kondo'd my wardrobe I was unpacked and everything away in about 15 minutes.
    8) supper was pizza left over from lunch
    9) and now i'm in bed catching up on all your lovely news

  • ........Ollie. Kidneys. Proper foods. But never give away a snorker! Not on yous nelly! DGD or not!

Oh, I know - believe me! Darn good quality Gluten Free ones they were too! Have to admit though, that I WAS looking forward to the kidneys as well ;). More snorkers in the freezer for another day !

On the subject of childhood illnesses as you get older - our DGS2 was extremely generous with his Chicken Pox around 14yrs ago - OH was definitely NOT IMPRESSED ;). None of us knew that he hadn't had the damn things when he was younger, and he was REALLY ill . He even got sympathy off ME, which is most unusual :rotfl:

    Pleasures for today (Wednesday).

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Was surprised that I managed to drive bigger son to the doctor's appointment he had booked for himself -at 7am! We got there and the security shutters were closed and we wondered if it was supposed to be 7pm. Then the shutters went up and the doors opened and in he went - in the dark!

    3) Hens OK and 3 eggs.

    4) Drove my mum and brother to floody city where we went round the charity shops.

    5) Cleaned the living room properly including hoovering and steaming the floor following the door fitting.

    6) My brother popped up 3ish for a game of Settlers of Catan.

    7) Bigger son made a korma for tea.

    8) Have watched Grand Designs and am in bed already.
  • 1 We went out for the day and did more than we meant just around the cheap shops and got a few things, an uber soft rug from Dunelm, and an amazing fleece from George.
2 I went into Trespass for a pair of boots in the sale and ended up getting the last pair they had for the grand sum of twelve pounds, very happy.
3 We had lunch at the Range.
    4 A chat with DB.
5 Planning a hygge box for a secret santa to post and I’m pleased with it.
  • Mine for yesterday -

    1. Reasonable night's sleep - given that I had a wriggly, long-legged, wheezy 11yr old sharing with me :).

    2. Visit to the lovely Poppy Man in our Town Centre where Caitlin picked out a few items that she wanted. I got myself (yet) another shopping trolley coin, this time with a BL Poppy on it :j. This is the first time for ages that Caitlin hasn't been part of the Remembrance Day Parade with Brownies. She decided that she didn't want to continue into Guides.

    3. Took HM Leek&Potato Soup to DD's yesterday for our lunch. The DGK's wolfed it down and now want me to make another batch of 'Magic Soup' for next week - so that will be one of this weekends' jobs :j.

    4. Fish Fingers, Oven Chips and Mushy Peas for evening meal last night - all well-fed ;)! Not sure about tonight - possibly Gammon, Egg, Mushrooms and Hash Browns .

    5. Emmerdale and Coronation Street on 'Plus 1' before crawling into bed with my Kindle for a spot of reading :T.
  • Couple more thing about vaccinations then I'll move on :p - we lost a friend aged 19 to meningitis, and my great grandmother also lost a 15 month old baby to it - in 1915, just a few months after her husband had been killed in the War :(

A friend's child also caught it as a baby and was left profoundly disabled, this was in the 90s

And an old lady I knew, who would be about 120 now if she was alive, had a very swollen knee and mis-shaped (bowed) leg after having had polio as a small child - and she had to spend a YEAR in bed with it when she was about 6. We really shouldn't be complacent about preventable illnesses!!! :(:(

    - Made it back into work yesterday which was nice - was in bed by 7 though :rotfl::rotfl:

    - Loving my Morse book -very interesting how different they are to the programmes too, very much gentrified for TV :rotfl:

    - Looking forward to a get together with my sisters tomorrow, first time we've all been together for months :)

    - Dog going back for check up on his injured leg tomorrow and finger crossed we can lose the cone and up his exercise a bit - poor coiled springer!

    Wednesday pleasures,

Car in to village garage for MOT & service, Capt S dropped me back home before heading off to work. No car meant couldn’t go anywhere so set to and cleaned house, top to bottom.

Phone call to say all passed with nothing needed :j enjoyed the walk into the village with little dog, day was mild and breezy so warm by the time we got there.

Coming up drive and a squirrel, being chased by a crow for the walnut in his mouth, run in front of my car, managed to avoid and squirrel got away with his bounty!

Sitting down and watched a Poirot.

Out for a meal with lovely man, I fancied and had a steak which was just about the best I’d ever had so celebrated with a dessert :rotfl: winter Eton mess with lemon curd cream and spiced blackberry compote, oh my.

Morning all - off to yoga and then ICT. haven't been for a while

    Pleasures for Tuesday

    1. A day at home. Got on really well with work, am enjoying it muchly now
    2. DS went back - not so much a pleasure that he's gone but that he's ok in going. He's not loving it unfortunately
    3. DD went to work even though she was ill (only a cold) proud of her
    4. Veggie curry for tea - out of the freezer so no cooking
    5. WEnt to collect OH from the station - everyone came out off the train, except him. Got a text to say he'd slept through the stop :rotfl: what a plonker. He went to the next stop and then came back - and walked home :p

    And yesterday

    1. DD didn't go to work - she really wasn't well and had to do some adulting by ringing in sick herself. i think the days of mummy doing it for her are gone
    2. made soup - which was tasteless - and lentil cottage pie - which was yum
    3. coffee and chat with friend
    4. being inside as it rained and rained and rained. And then missing the rain when i walked to friend's and back
    5. kind of watched Grand Designs (read 'slept through some of it':rotfl:)

    Have a good day all
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • 1) A good nights sleep.

    2) Wood Stove installed and working last night, utter BLISS! and warm toes!

    3) Lovely man who installed the stove actually cleared out the gutter on the chimney side of the house while he was up his ladder, came down and asked HWK for the hose and took it up and washed the gutter too, talk about above and beyond eh?

    4) He also helped HWK take down a shelf in the lounge that had been bolted to the wall and the bolts wouldn't undo. Mr Stove had a special gadget which got 'em and he lifted the shelf down as well, such a good bloke.

    5) It's NOT raining today so I'm off on the bus to the greengrocers shop in the city for supplies for the weekend.
