  • 1) Milk in glass bottles delivered at 7.02am this morning by the milkman.

    2) Day out with DD2 and the grandpickles at Westonbirt arboretum so much fun!

    3) DD2 treated us to lunch out and my soup was delicious.

    4) Found a Perspex fronted 'hide' and sat with the two boys watching a beautiful pheasant, 2 squirrels and miscellaneous assorted birds (including a nuthatch) feeding and going about their daily business inches from the viewing glass, mesmerising and gorgeous.

    5) Got the family coming up for the day tomorrow to go to a local fair in a nearby town which is reputed to be a cracker, getting there early as parking is at a premium and the whole place gets rammed!

    Pleasures for today (Friday).

    1) Trouser saga ended. Smaller son came home last night saying his trousers were "literally splitting his pelvis in half" :-D So we were waiting outside M and S this morning at 7.55 as school starts at 8.20...

    2) Popped to Sainsburys after that and found a second pair of trousers (cheaper) so he can have one to wash and wear.

    3) Hens well and 4 eggs.

    4) Remembered to take some mesh from the allotment. Got home and put it across some bricks and started to build my log pile on the top (usually use a pallet but it had rotted too much).

    5) Painted the living room ceiling. Sounds easy enough but there are 9 long beams and also a weird cross beam above the fire. And the ends poking through the wall of some of the kitchen beams! So lots of poking around with the paint brush then using the tiny roller. This must have taken nearly 3 hours.

    6) Took the opportunity to have a good tidy up/throw away in the living room and it looks much better now. It is improved by not having the curtains up. I think I'll leave them down and replace with some Roman (?) blinds before the winter. Still appreciating the improved view out the back now the porch has gone.

    7) Bigger son got back from his first proper day at new college. The afternoon lecturer was away so they were let out early. Pleased to hear he went with 2 of his new classmates to the local snooker hall and had a few games.

    8) Smaller son also had a good day. He's a bit peeved they have put more people in his taxi (they all go to his school) so now it takes an hour each way.

    9) Bought chips from the van which we had with lasagne.

    10) Watched GBBO Extra Slice and Gogglebox. Will probably watch Gardeners World just now.

Busy day tomorrow. Going to look after brother in law and niece (he's still recovering from massive operation), bigger son has work and smaller son has football.

A day off work and back is improving.

    1. Went food shopping and didn't spend too much. It wasn't too busy. I combined the trip with a visit to the bank to pay in some cash.

    2. Caught up with some recorded tv.

    3. Did some cooking of lasagne and shepherd's pie for the freezer and also cooked some crumble for tea and the freezer. It was a good thing to do while looking after my back.

    4. Spent time in the garden. Planted some bulbs in a slope so good position for my back.

    5. A friend phoned. Had a long conversation with her and she is doing well with her new baby.

    Friday pleasures,

Bright and sunny morning but bbbrr cold so OS pleasure of putting warm jumper on.

Bed changed and washing dried on line.

Apple store in shed is just about full and the tree is still laden, bags are going to the yard as treats for the horses, will have to start giving them away but if previous years are anything to go by folks don’t seem to want free food :(

Princess pony itching herself on branch in field, bottom lip wobble was hilarious.

    Extra slice followed by Gogglebox.

Sneaks in quickly before family realise. RL demented as ever. Amidst the triumphs and challenges, you share so much joy - thank you!

    OS Pleasures recently
Aww! There's a hole in our space station - so the astronauts put a finger over it while grabbing the Kapton tape (space gaffer, seemingly!). [And now Someone Was Playing with a drill, tush tush.]

The Belfast Primark Fire is out - oh good - it started when I was over there, & my family have been giving me odd looks. I was teaching! Albeit about half a mile away.

"I hate demented teeth" er, yes? "It makes feeding them so hard." Ah. Eldest's work at a care home is proving educational as well as paid. (He brought a 10 pack of cider as he knew I'd tut if he brought a four pack when the price per can is lower with the 10 pack... He has a way to go MS but some of the basics he has down!) [And this morning has misplaced uniform top so while one in wash, one *missing* ogods.]

Son fed me a bite of "cucumber with tomato sauce", which was a chilli. The pleasure is soothing the heat away with chocolate, but oh the last of the Prestat truffles!

Can't help but love Ruth Goodman "So, I went and found some badger hair. Well, I'll be honest. There was some roadkill, so I shaved it." [Happy cries of "as you do" from family, who are accepting of all sorts of strangeness from St Ruth!] Other lesser mortals would just buy a paintbrush but the Guedelon castle is a very period construction so Ruth makes her own.

Just as I feel vaguely sorry for hard physical working son, turns out the lady whose garden they are landscaping (a) is a colleague's mum & (b) cooks ANZAC biscuits & bacon butties for them....

"Desist mit der screaminks, please, you frighten the horses will!" - yelled down the stairs in response. The phones have an intercom function *and* I text teens failing to respond from under headphones, but the yelling goes on. Yet they can hear the handbell indicating food being dished up....

Things I possibly should not have said at work: "I don't think there's anything wrong with blackmail so long as I'm the one who's doing it." In a parenting context.

Flipped the calendar to September & am charmed to see my sons & my mother smiling at me. Even though I took the photo & commissioned the calendar, it's a pleasant surprise!

Waved to the tailor! Out early to haul startled child to dentist - the young have very little grasp on life admin.

"How the Marquis got his coat back" on the radio as I drive home! A short story following Neverwhere the Neil Gaiman urban fantasy - both of which make riveting reading & superb radio!

Some kids' 3D animated Sci Fi program "has aged about as well as a banana" - trust youngest to have a clear and memorable turn of phrase. [Has decided he dislikes computer programming and decide to do English language as an A level instead. Amazingly supportive school!]

Argh BackToSchool includes the discovery one's bus pass has timed out (not being under 16 any more) but since I researched & handed over full grown up fare anyway, the squalks have abated. (Mine, being challenged on date of last tetanus, are still disturbing dogs.)

Am sat in hotel room admiring the River Tyne. Might enjoy it more if I had not felt a vertebral clunk that does not hurt so long as I Sit Up Properly. I rather fear exquisite posture is going to be mandatory for a day or two. Ah well. I could be overlooking a derelict building site.

Reading about the shark scientist. Now there's a career my gels school failed to mention. Still, whatever my chaps decide to do, I rather expect to be a tad surprised. (None of them have what I expect in senior accountants.) If one were to become an exotic male dancer I'd be so amused - others of my family brag about skiing, languages, medical school so I can watch the teacups shatter as I cheerfully declare what my boy's up to...

Rear Window - my word the rules have changed but it's a wonderful escapist film!

Right. Health, strength, love, courage, happy travels, extra fleeces & power tools to all as have need and I regret the shops are already selling mince pies (Not In Season Yet!).

    5 for yesterday:

    1. Really lousy night's sleep (due to breathing problems) so managed to make very early appointment for surgery :(. Given stronger Antihistamines and Nasal Spray on prescriptions - phew, that'll save me quite a lot of money :T. Must have spent a small fortune on various products during the past few weeks, in an effort to be able to breathe clearly .
    2. Got the freebie paper on the bus - love my Crossword/Sudoko etc in them .............. and it's FREE :j.
    3. Had a 'comfortable snooze on the sofa' after using medication :) and felt much better for it. Breathing continued to be slightly better through the day.
    4. Gluten Free Wrap used up with some salad, last of the roast pork and a squidge of mayo for lunch with plum and satsuma for dessert :D.
    5. Fish Fingers (GF ones for me) for evening meal with HM Actifry Chips and Peas for evening meal - followed by a couple of pieces of 'very chunky Toblerone' for dessert ;)!
    6. Watched my soaps in peace :j.
    7. Bit of a distrubed night again, but not quite as bad as the night before. Got up to do the 'head over hot water' thing around 3.00am followed by Olbas Oil on a tissue to try to sniff. Still got one totally blocked nostril . Have made a decision to 'cut out dairy' for a while, as it's supposed to help to reduce excess mucus, so will be drinking black coffee / green tea / hot blackcurrant juice for a while. Hopefully things will improve through the day ...................
