5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

A kind of in and out day.
Up early. Supermarket…again but needed fruit and veg.
Put a slow cooker meal on using up what I had.
DD2 in the afternoon.
Home. Hoovered upstairs. Cleaned bathrooms. Hoovered car.
Sausage casserole for tea…and chat to sister as I was eating!
Not very warm here and the odd smatter of rain.

Evening all 😊

Lovely day of sunshine today but not too much chance to enjoy it (although it would have been too hot 🤣). The carpet fitter was here first thing this morning to replace the carpets in the lounge and bedroom which had got damaged by the sticky protective stuff the builders put down when the media wall unit and wardrobes were built ☹️ no quibble about replacing it but a nuisance as all the furniture had to be moved out! (By the builders team, not us). So that was the morning taken up and while they were here I retreated to my bedroom and started sorting and packing our clothes for our holiday on Sunday. We are going to Lesvos for three weeks which we always said we would do when we were both retired, and part of me wishes we weren’t but I’m sure I will love it once I’m there. It’s the preparation, getting up at 2 a.m. for the flight and the journey I don’t like. This afternoon it was back to the rental to take meter readings and return keys to the estate agents. Hurrah no more rent to pay!

Yesterday I completed on the purchase of the flat for my son, this has taken over 6 months so now I can have peace of mind that he has somewhere to live.

Wednesday my sister came down for the day and we had our usual cheese scone at the garden centre (full English for OH) and a pootle down our local, still interesting, High Street. She is going to stay at ours some of the time we are away, so hopefully some of my pots will survive.

The early part of the week was taken up with emails/phone calls re the flat and emptying and cleaning the rental. All done now!

I expect I’ll post some photos while I’m away. Enjoy the good weather here, it will be cooler for the first few days on our Greek island than here, suits me 🤣

Pleasures for today (Friday)

1)Not a bad sleep.

2) Went to the coffee morning.

3) Played with the Merlin bird app and managed to record a Cettis Warbler that has strayed too far north!

4) Worked more in the garden, cutting grass and weeding round the raspberries.

5) Watered the pots.

• 1. Decision: Yes, for big J yesterday, a great rugby club Dad, giant, player, gent, employer, volunteer, Coach, brother, teacher, builder, friend - and wonderful husband. Over 300 of us there, capacity plus, so more again afterwards. An utterly fitting farewell on a beautiful day at which all, including J, were very much present.

• 2. Heightened renewal time brought much from so many, all of us knowing the importance of doing so. Another kiwi, also a J, tall and rangy 1st XVer, scooped & up in a big hug and our pounamu clunked together. Each of us talked about them. Still wearing my fish hook of Maui.💚

• 3. Oak and walnut seedlings dug up, potted ditto. Keep seeing more and more!😁 3 wanted oaks and 2 walnuts en route North with R and W late yesterday.

• 4. NPD! = No Petrol Day among ospers, for any who don't know. No Driving Day is more accurate, includes diesels like &'s Doblo, so NDD from now on.😃 They're rare anyway, as is the partner NSD, or No Spending Day. But former tends to beget latter, so double Yippee today.

• 5. As we speak, radio on but no other human sound 🫶, birdsong all sorts, feet up on outdoor chair+ancient NZ sheepskin cushion, books at hand, new infinity scarf for daughter sortakinda underway, sortakinda requested! 😲, but🥰, big🏉final to listen to shortly - allez UBB! Montpellier were incredible, fabulously crushing Ulster with ease, 59-26. #

• Well, spacing's All gone to t.h.uggery again and pics won't post, ditto.

Some recent pleasures,

Lots of baby birds are now appearing around the garden, so many practice flights between various shrubs and sitting on the trellis waiting on parents to arrive with food.

Squally rain showers and big banks of clouds on the horizon.

Over to fenland market town, quick catch up lunch with DSIL followed by a blissful facial with eldest DN, we put the world to rights and chat all things witchy.

At last the Gunners won the PL, with a bf and future DIL as passionate supporters I was happy for them.

Summer clothes try on and sort out, some put to one side for donating and other old favourites moved over to main wardrobe ahead of forecasted hot weather.

A vet visit and C dog is now signed off of oral steroids 🥳 ear spray will still be used twice a week but a huge improvement from where we were. Despite shedding her winter coat she had gained 2.3kg though and we are now on a diet, or the closest a Lab can get to one!

The warm weather has arrived and the beautiful grey one was dozing in the sun when I turned up. It was her 14th birthday and so had an extra special tea with parsnips, carrots and apples in. Picture as above.

Turned up a pair of linen trousers, they look much better a cropped length.

Bread dough made and proving by 7am.

The tiniest blue t*t soaked through after having a bath, Percy pigeon too although his water displacement was lot higher!

Hurrah! We have had sunshine! Not heatwave temps (thankfully) but bare arms and ankles kind of warm!

Down to CP early for a swim and a walk then went to DD2 and had a bath! I’ve not had a bath since I was in Australia! The other day I was convinced I’d brought the book I’d been reading home with me and had looked everywhere for it…caravan kitchen worktop! Anyway brought it back today and read it in the bath until I finished it…with occasional top up of hot water by my big toe!

Came home and cut the grass and then had a visit from the lesser spotted brother.

Out for early tea with DD2. Went to wedding hotel and waved at our wedding coordinator and the hotel manager ( who had just been amazing) came over for a quick chat which was nice.

Then we went to ice cream shop for pudding!

Had stripped my bed this morning so need to go and remake it!

And just so lovely to see blue sky and feel warmth.

Pleasures for yesterday (Saturday)

1)Bit too hot to sleep.

2) Bigger son came round to talk about his friend's wedding where he was best man.

3) Cleaned the bathroom.

4) Watched the TV.

5) Made a cauliflower cheese.

6) Phoned my school friend.

1. Pentecost and Whitsun Weddings somehow tying in with lots of thinking about J's funeral and Phillip Larkin's poems at church today.
2. Hot, so hot, so Big Hot! Love it.🌞 32⁰-34⁰ forecast was correct.🤩👍 Sent all the blah to NZ schoolfriends, who are in disbelief.😄
3. People reluctant to leave cool church today. No-one standing on the ancient iron grille floor heaters, which - when on - give a real Marilyn Monroe skirt uplift. 4. How come & didn't post last weekend's nearby village Feast joys? Think they disappeared with other bits of lost post. The Mummers were fantastic and the Big Egg Throwing Challenge splendid messy fun.

5.Emporium rtcs - giant onion bhajis and ditto sweet potato+chicken samosas, were £1.60, down to 39p. Yummy scrummy.😋

Pleasures for today (Sunday)

1)Not a bad sleep.

2) Banana and bischoff spread toasties for brunch.

3) 3 frogs in the pond. Also saw various butterflies and a cinnabar moth.

4) About 27⁰ here but it will be 34⁰ tomorrow.

5) Made chicken curry then a pineapple upside down cake for dinner.

6) All washing done. Just the thick sofa throe still outside.

Highdays

Evening all (ooohhh, that's a bit Dixon of Dock Green for those old enough to remember!).

Back from our hols and still to catch up, hope all is well with my laptop pals. I'll catch up on all your news with a coffee in the morning.

Recent pleasures:

1. Another fab holiday in South Devon, one of our favourite places. Some rain, mainly overnight or early morning, but we had sun every day with progressively higher temperatures as the days went on. Some trips out to places old and new and some sitting and admiring the lovely views over the Tamar from the cottage, our second stay there and it didn't disappoint. Debating staying there again next year or should we try somewhere else. Hmmm….
2. An easy and smooth journey home and a bbq with son and DIL so nothing to do except sit back with delicious food and a glass of wine or two and have a good catch up.
3. Middle and little grandsons joined us. Middle grandson was meeting his pals at 10pm in a local pub before a night out (as we were thinking of heading bedwards) and little fella is coping incredibly well with plaster from armpit to wrist. He goes back tomorrow for x rays and hopefully a smaller cast. The plaster, all being well, should come off in July and then the rods removed some time later. He is very happy that he doesn't need to miss the school residential trip in June, the teachers have very kindly agreed to take him and offer support as required. He thinks his attempts at crazy golf will be very crazy!
4. Our wedding anniversary yesterday, I'm keeping him for another year as he remembered the date and I didn't. Oops, but I've lost track with being away! Lovely memories of a perfect day.
5. Not a pleasure as such as my poor sister is back in hospital and really not well. The 'pleasure' is that the monitor she has to wear alerted the hospital that all was not well, they rang her, she went straight in and was operated on pretty much immediately. Not sure yet of all the details but I think this op caused some problems and a second surgeon was called in to assist. As a result she has been on a lot of morphine since and that is making her feel pretty poorly. She missed her 60th birthday celebrations, hubby's birthday and their wedding anniversary. In the middle of all that they have had to have her beloved dog PTS as he had bone cancer and went downhill very quickly. A really rotten time all round but lucky that the system kicked into action so speedily.

Good to be home again, just starting to get back to normal after the holiday, car unpacked, washing done, post read and blissful sleep in my own bed.
